This is the most we have ever dressed up for a race so we're pretty excited. I had a quick practice run in mine to make sure it was comfortable-- thank goodness for 5 AM training runs in the dark! Not sure my neighborhood is prepared to see Belle running down the street...

Since the updated info for the 10k route hints to be the SWDS route, it looks like there will a long stretch of straight road. As I'm a relatively new runner (this will be my first 10k), most of my experience is on winding roads, trails, or other such routes. The straight road stretch right out of the gate is psyching me out a bit now. Weird, I know, but for some reason, looping around a parking lot like last year's 10k course didn't seem so intimidating. (I'm also a little bummed that we won't run by the Boardwalk. My family is staying at BW & had hoped to watch from the back porch area.)

Do you guys have any advice for how to make that first stretch more tolerable (physically or mentally)? I've heard that the DS 10k had some "runDisney magic" applied.

IF it's the same as SWDS, the first couple miles were very dark - I was plenty occupied with watching where I was going and navigating the sea of people! They did a very, very cool Endor battle scene along Bear Island Rd: lasers flashing across the road, blast sounds and music form speakers, flashing lights and all. IDK what they'll cook up (see what I did there?! lol) for W&D, but they'll have to do something to deal with the darkness through there.

Someone will have to help me with this one but I remember at least two character stops(R2D2 and some Disney Rebels I think) and one of those sets that you just pop into and have your picture taken. There was probably at least one more I'm forgetting though. I'm hoping they go just characters for this 10k since sets don't really make sense for this theme.

That sounds right to me, too.

What % runners are *really* dressed up for WnD? Not just a color palette reminding them of a character.

Full-blown, all-out costume? Maybe 10%, tops. Might be closer to 5%. Most of us who do some kind of themed outfit make something out of running clothes. But the majority won't be in anything resembling a costume, and many will be wearing the "free" race shirt.

My first rundisney race was at WDW weekend in Jan and there were lots of people in themed race gear or the race shirt or other disney shirts, but also a ton in just normal running clothes. Probably because that weekend didn't have as pronounced of a theme.
But then when I did Tink weekend it was like 95% of people wearing sparkle skirts/tutus/wings/obvious costumes using themed running gear. It was a mostly female race but even the guys were really elaborately dressed. I'd imagine princess weekend is the same.

I've never done the W&D weekend but I hope there are lots of cool outfits because people-watching is what gets me through most races and corral waiting

My BFFs and I always dress up to some extent for Disney races. Some are more elaborate than others.

We mostly do it to give us something fun to plan together since we're miles apart and race weekends are generally the only times we're together for sure. It's also fun to take silly pictures.

My favorite costume was for the Neverland 5K last year - we were the Lost Boys, costumes weren't anything crazy - just solid-color running gear with ears and a tail. But we had a blast on course acting the part ... there was singing, some crowing, just general Lost Boys behavior - we had a blast and you can see people laughing and smiling at us in our race pictures. Plus, the actual Lost Boys were out on course for selfies, so it was even better!

For W&D this year, I'm re-running my costume from 2015, complete with all the bits - World Showcase Drinking Team jersey, eyeblack, yellow "penalty flag", QB-style armband with a map of the World Showcase and a whistle.

Love seeing all the costumes. My friend and I dress up and for this half we'll be wearing 'wine' skirts. She's doing the 10K too but not sure how she will dress up for that yet. Next year a group of us are planning to do Beauty and the Beast themed costumes.

So I will be trying to watch my husband run the 10K. Assuming that the 10K course runs near the Boardwalk, I've heard that's the best place to watch runners. But how do people get over there if they 1. don't have a car and 2. busses are not running that early that I could get to that particular area and 3. are not staying the any of those resorts? Would it be a real mess to try and see him at the finish line somewhere? I will probably taking the bus with him in the am and wait with him before he heads to his corral.

No idea how people got to Boardwalk in the past, but Uber is certainly an option.

Yep, a car of some sort (Uber? Taxi?) is your only option to get from resort X to BW. The finish is in the same spot as the start, and it's pretty easy to see runners at the finish, so that might be a better option.

If they use the Dark Side course wouldn't the start and finish line be different?

Oh right! But they do run buses between the start and finish, so if going to the start, still probably easiest to go to the finish vs. trying to get to BW.

I know it's early but I'm starting to look at next year's W&D. When will the date be out? I'm guessing it will be the 4th. Thanks!
