Official Wine and Dine 2017 thread

I have a couple of questions:
- If you register for the Challenge and you don't do the 10k, are you still able to do the half?
- what if you arrive into Orlando on the Saturday before the Half and the Expo is closed/finished....how do you get your bib?

thanks.

- You can still do the 1/2, just won't get the challenge medal.
- I'd assume there is some limited same-day pickup but have never experienced -- I'm sure someone else here knows.

There are no guarantees that same-day bib pickup will be available. I would plan on arriving to Orlando before the Expo is closed.

Whoohooo! I'm officially signed up (thru a travel agent) and DH and I are excited to be back for wine & dine this fall. I sat out last year because I was so grumpy that it was moved to morning and that there were no more Osborne lights. But the Dark Side course looked good (hoping they use that for W&D) and DH and I will be celebrating our 15th wedding anniversary so we jumped in. Apparently I'm having a runDisney fever this spring as I also signed up for Princess last week with my mom. Thank goodness for frequent flier miles!

Now to wait (impatiently) for the food and wine festival booth previews to appear online... mmmmmm...

How much of a pain do you think going to the Rapunzel/Flynn Rider breakfast on the Boardwalk will be the morning of the 10k even if we did a late breakfast reservation. Hubby should be in corral B or C most likely and will shower, etc. We are staying at the WL so it'd be going through Epcot or an uber??

Wondering if we should just ditch that plan or go for it?

Uber would probably be a lot faster. A late morning breakfast should be fine!

Does anybody know how Wine & Dine half crowds compare to Princess half's? I ran the Princess this year and, while a lot of fun, I ran almost 17 miles from having to weave through people. I'm running a qualifying race this time to get a higher corral placement which should help, but I would still be interested in hearing what people who have done both races think.

If it helps I was in Corral H last year for Wine and Dine and ended up with 14.5 miles....I was a single so I got to the front of he corral very easily and was out front for a about half mile and then hit a wall of walkers. Having a POT this go around will be nice and I think you'll be fine too depending on course restraints.

Couldn't you run into this "wall of walkers" in corral B too? Think there's probably no way to avoid them, especially with the big Run/Jog-walk method that Disney is pushing. Really disappointed there isn't proper pacing people in each corral. Just because I'm in the second to back corral doesn't mean I can't run a 2:15 time. I find it surprisingly hard to get a POT in, there's only two 10k in my area to run before the Aug 1st cut off.

Exactly the problem I had last year with POT's. I finished in 2:03 and ran 9:52 the first mile and 8:15 the last....After mile 7 it opened up quite nicely but AK was difficult. The people actually doing the run/walk method are more aware than folks that are just shooting to beat 16m/mi. Just part of the magic ;)

As far as hitting "a wall" if you were in B I don't think this would be a problem catching A and even if it was you'll only hit one and need to navigate around once. I was so excited when I got past folks in my corral after about 2 minutes, nothing but asphalt but then WALL. It may have helped me, who really knows. The person running 17 instead of 13 really had an issue. I just jumped some corners in AK and had to run faster than I would have liked a couple times

Here's the thing with Disney races: in addition to having lots of different people running/walking lots of different paces, you also have people leaving the course for photos, then rejoining the race in a position behind where they started. I've always been a mid to back- of the packer and by the end of every race, a look around me will show bibs from every corral that started. Unless you start in a very early corral and never stop at all, you're going to at some point encounter racers from corrals that started before you and made stops, and from corrals that started behind you but never stopped. It's just the way it is and I find the best way to handle it is to simply expect it. :)

I'm glad you bring this up. I will be in corral B for Tink soon and I fully realize that after a few character stops in the beginning 5 miles that I have planned that I will need to be especially aware of my surroundings throughout the remainder of the course since I fully expect to be running along with or through corrals that have caught up and passed me. I intend to negative split my half BUT since I'm not gunning for a PR I'm just going to make the best of it and find my speedy spots where I can but take the scenic approach if there's nothing else I can do. And I know faster people will be coming through up behind me for various reasons too.

Is it anyone else's ADR day today? MDE is giving me fits. I was near tears at 5am this morning because MDE kept not letting me go past 10/31 even though I have a resort stay. I somehow got all but one thing that I wanted for my week after a hard fought battle with the refresh button and multiple computers/tablets/phones. I may just call at lunchtime for my final thing that I want because its back to being glitchy again. Ov Vey!

Anyone know if Fantasmic dining packages are bookable for the week leading up to W&D. It's the one thing I can't view yet.

First half marathon = automatic PR, FYI. ;)

Are you staying on a DVC points reservation? Sometimes the dining system doesn't want to recognize that as a reservation entitled to 180+10 ADR privileges, so when it acts up like that it's easier to call.

Nope just a basic room only standard view room for 5 nights (hoping for a fall discount maybe?) It works off an on being able to book through 11/5, but then it reverts back to only 10/31.
I was able to get all my big needs (Be Our Guest breakfast, Ohana, etc) but I'm one ressie shy and its driving me crazy that the system is messing with me. So I'm just gonna call. Maybe this will help me avoid tinkering with my plans too much???

Our ADR day is Saturday, please leave a CA Grille brunch reservation for us....TYIA:-)
