Official Wine and Dine 2016 thread

I ran a solid 11 miles yesterday and feel decently on track for November, except that around mile 8 I started having pain in one knee on the outside, especially on descents. Seems like it's probably my IT band. I will take it easy for a few days and see how it goes. My question is: what is your experience with KT tape for additional support during injuries? Do you use it for all long runs? Does KT tape truly seem to have real benefits? TIA!
First, I'm sorry - I've done battle with ITBS and I know how much it sucks. Second, if you'll permit me to offer some advice, ITBS is not to be taken lightly! A little time off isn't likely to solve it, though it's a good first step: rest will allow the inflammation to go down. The #1 key to beating it is to identify the root cause... which isn't always easy. Spend some time Googling and you should find loads of ITBS info to sort through, and it may help you figure out what's causing it for you so you can make changes going forward. Seeing a sports med doctor is a really good idea, too. I waited way too long to deal with mine and paid a big price: it took nearly a year to recover. Trying to run through it just isn't a good idea!

For most folks, ITBS is a strength issue and there are some specific exercises you can do to improve that. I never found KT tape to work at all for ITBS pain, personally.

Anyone else feel like the ribbon for the half medal looks a lot like one of the TOT medals' ribbon? I don't have my TOT medals nearby to compare, but it sure looks familiar!

Hmm, I was thinking of a green and black one. I'll look when I get home. I think I'm picturing rD getting some kind of deal on green and black checked ribbon, much like whatever deal they scored on grey shirt material, lol! ;)

I was so surprised to see the medals today, but so excited! I thought it would be a few weeks yet since it took so long for them to reveal Disneyland. But they look awesome and I can't wait to earn them!

Not sure if anyone posted this yet, but I just saw the challenge has opened for registration again. I went through the whole registration until I got to the payment part and it went through. If anyone is looking to register go now!

Seriously in love with the medals! And loving that we saw them this early! I couldn't be happier with them, but especially stoked to be getting that Lumiere medal!

Seeing the medals has also made me really excited.

Unfortunately the heat and a crazy work schedule has put me way behind in my training. I'll be fine for the 10k part of my challenge but the half is going to hurt, that's for sure. Now I'm just hoping to train so I don't totally die and hurt myself.

I don't do more than a 5k so far (working my way up to the half at 2017 Wine and Dine!), but I had ACL reconstruction 2.5 years ago and have a lot of arthritis already. I find KT tape a godsend for both running and working out with my trainer (kickboxing and lots of weight lifting). I do the full knee support application and find it helps tremendously both during workouts and for everyday activity.

It can be pricey, however I use the "pro" tape and when I do a good job at applying it lasts 6-7 days - so I feel that's super good value. The non-pro tape doesn't stick to me as well and I'm lucky to get a day out of it.

I've never done that course, but I'm actually looking forward to having the first few miles be boring road that spreads everybody out, especially after the SWDS 10k. But they really should try to change it up somehow, just so there is a different look.
It's one of those things that sounds good in theory but isn't in reality. Those first 3 miles seem to take forever, while the last 3 soon by. I love the last 3, I just think they could put us in Epcot more

Right I have a question (which is probably really obvious )

With Epcot opening at 9am on the 6th, do they still have people running as the park opens?

Just as I was doing the maths, and if the race starts at 5.30am and you're in the last corral you won't cross the line till around 6am - then if you run in the maximum time allowed 3hr 30min that would take you to nearly 9.30am finish.

So with this in mind, do you think the race would end in ESPN World Wide Sport Complex, rather than Epcot as not to mess with the crowds.

Yeah what DIs_Yoda said, Princess & Marathon weekend finish when EPCOT is open so I don't see them changing it. EPCOT has pretty wide paths so it's not too hard keeping the course clear of guests. And after the bus fiasco of Darkside this year with finishes at Wide World I doubt they'll finish large races there again, heck they've already changed Darkside to finish at EPCOT as well.

Well if that doesn't make me want to train harder I don't know what will.

As I don't mind other race participant seeing me a sweaty running mess; but I'm not sure if I want the whole of the rope drop peeps to see it too, it might ruin their holibobs  lol

That's funny, but it is kind of cool running with the guests in the park as many of them watch/cheer too. I was a disaster as this year's marathon so saw guests at AK, ST & EP & it never felt weird, even asked a random stranger guest to take my pic at Epcot.

Yeah, the cheering crowds at EPCOT at the end of the full in January was awesome. Made the last mile feel amazing.
