Official Wine and Dine 2016 thread

Regarding the change to the format for W & D....not really on our schedule until 2017 or 2018 anyway.

Likes-It's a RunDisney event

Dislikes-I'll channel my inner Dr. Seuss.........

I looked forward to a festive nighttime event
when magical parks were brightly lit,
The changing of the schedule and early wake up
I do not like this one bit.

Does the 8pm 'after hours post race party' mean that Epcot will close early to regular guests that evening such as it does for the Halloween and Cmas parties? The website says
  • Early entry into Epcot® at 8:00 p.m.
What does that mean 'early'? Compared to what??

I don't understand all the negativity, I really don't. Weren't we all hoping for a 10k? The fact that they changed it to a morning race is a very small thing in the bigger picture. HS has a ton of construction starting this year before the race and there are no more Osbourne Lights. Let's face it, that was a big draw for many people for this race.

If you didn't participate in the race last year you wouldn't understand my frustration (or if you didn't participate in 2014 because that was a monsoon). I was FED UP by the time the race stated last November. My feet hurt like hell, I had no power (energy) left in me, it was all 'hurry up and line up and wait some more without information,' etc. It was a total downer. I was so disappointed when they announced that the course would be shortened. But did they extend the after party? That's a no. I got to experience 3 hours of that. I was in corral F. Some people got to experience much less than that. I felt for people still running that late. I didn't get the full experience because lines were still too long and there was not enough time. I am very happy with the changes. Yeah, the reason I had been interested in the first place was the night aspect and the after-party but after last year, @*#$ that.

RunDisney didn't ruin anything. They tried to transform something that was screwed up for two years in a row into something that really would be a total experience.

On the bright side - I like the themes they picked for the 10K and challenge a LOT. And I'm glad that the weekend as a whole is still Food & Wine themed.

But I'm not loving the course going from 3 parks to 2...or the change to a daytime race...or the late notice. I think this was handled really, really poorly, but I don't think it'll matter - everything will still sell out.
Agreed. I've got to say, though... as poorly as this was handled, like I said earlier today or yesterday (losing track of time!!), I'm not surprised. NOTHING will surprise me after they went from "Star Wars Weekends Coming Summer 2016!" and LETTERS from a couple of CM's confirming it was ON, and then THE WHOLE THING is cancelled. Am I still bitter? Maybe a tad. ;)

It all worked out, in that I canceled my May SWW trip and moved to Apr SW Half trip, and they did add in SOME new SW stuff. So, I have been pacified, I guess. But from that point on, NOTHING that throws a wrench into all our planning will surprise me. And I still keep going... ... ;)

I don't understand all the negativity, I really don't.

I get it. I was looking forward to the night race, the immediate after party (because after my first half in January I was ready to eat the world), and I was looking forward to a smaller race. I'm disappointed I won't experience any of those unique elements. Only two parks to run through? I think you're definitely losing rD value there. (Although, it will go back to 3 when Walt Disney Studios opens with Toy Story and Star Wars lands.)

As far as changing advertised date and time... I'm fortunate that isn't effecting me, but that certainly calls for criticism.

Some good news may be reduced registration anxiety as the number of bibs will increase to match other half weekends. The way things have been going, I wonder if there will be bibs available through the travel agents off and on all summer. (I got a notice from one last week with Dark Side bibs. 100% inaugural, so that's surprising)

When I read this it did remind me of the ToT night race in 2013 that ended with a party in DHS. While I enjoyed the night race, we were pretty tired after having been up since 4am that day (did the 5K in the morning) and walking around the parks for part of the day. By the end of the half, we were about done! Not to mention sweaty and gross(despite bringing wipes to clean up, change of shoes/clothes)! :crazy2: Stayed a bit, rode a few rides, and that was about it.

While I STILL would have liked a night race, I think we will likely enjoy the later party... after a SHOWER and some rest. :)

I liked the nighttime race. I did it twice (2013 & 2014), and the atmosphere on the course in 2013 was awesome and so unique compared to other runDisney races, so I'm disappointed that it's going away.

Seems like they are sticking with 2:45 half time for proof of time

runDisney proof of time guidelines:
If you believe you will finish the Half Marathon in less than 2:45 hours, proof of time is required for start corral placement. Lumiere's Two Course Challenge participants should adhere to Half Marathon proof of time requirements. Proof of time is not required for the 5K and 10K races. Please reference the Race Pacing Chart below for finish times and associated pacing per mile. Please note we do not accept self-timed, training, or virtual runs as proof of time."

and this wording looks different for submitting it, especially about them not atomatically putting it in from a past race.

  • Past runDisney races may be used as proof of time, however they are not automatically input for your race registration.
Just found it interesting!

While I'm a bit disappointed that it's no longer a night race, since that made the event so unique, I'm drooling over the Lumiere Challenge and what sounds like a Remy themed 10K. I've gone from not having any plans to go (between not caring that much and thinking it wouldn't work anyway) to desperately wanting to. I just looked at Southwest flights (which are only scheduled up to November 4th), and there's a 6:55 pm one on Thursday the 3rd that would be perfect for me for leaving after a work day. I think I've developed a serious problem because I'm not going to be able to stop thinking and dreaming about this.

How does changing the race to the morning prevent bad weather? If a storm were to come through in the morning they would do the same as they did last year and it can rain anytime of the day. The negativity comes in that they had posted the dates and times for 4 months on their site and now change it. Now I cannot extend my stay at BWV for Sunday night as all the studios are fully booked. Luckily I only bought our flight down for Thursday as the return flights for Sunday evening are still very expensive, but I am sure that there are some that had already booked flights and it will cause a problem with the party now being pushed back a day.

My wife and I have run this race every year and have said that I will continue every year, but now not sure since ending with the after party at night really made this race different than all other races. Now is it just another morning race with a hard ticket event on the same weekend.

Wasn't this 3:15 before?? The 16min/mi requirement means 3.5 hrs. Doesn't it seem like a wide spread not to require proof of time for ANYTHING 2:45 through 3:30? Makes me think those slower corrals will be more of a mess...

It could still rain, but there is a lot less of a chance of thunderstorms in the morning than there is in the evening/night, which is what part/all of the problem was last year.

I understand the frustration on DVC people and I think Disney should do something considering the fact that the dates were on the site for so long. I don't think that this is now another morning race with a hard ticket event attached. Runners will be able to get into party. Friends, family who buy tickets will be able to get in. The party won't be any more crowded then it is after the night race. The party tickets are still capped. I'm sure there are some that booked flights, but given the uncertainty of the RunDisney site in the past I will not book anything until a few months in advance because how can I be sure. They've changed things in the past. I'm sorry you are frustrated and I feel for the people who have booked things already.

I'm beyond excited and can't wait to participate in this!

Now I don't feel that bad I won't be running this race this year, running this race at 5:30am just doesn't have the same appeal to me.The same with the post race after party,I have an AP and believe me that regular park closing hours on this day will be the normal 9pm meaning that if Disney treats this as a hard ticket event regular park goers will not be getting kicked out until after 10pm and with the event closing at 1am that basically means someone with an AP like me is getting 3 extra hours at the park and given that I would wake up at 2-3 am that morning for the race I doubt I would even want to be there. The appeal of WIne and Dine on previous years was getting up late, the whole night atmosphere, running through the Osborne lights and staying at the parks until 4am,I was eating fish and chips at Epcot last year at 3:30 am!!!Now this just feels like a regular morning Disney race with a night party for race participants that doesn't really appeal to me.I will say if you don't have park tickets like I do 5 hours at the park is a pretty good draw. With that said a new challenge would definitely get me to sign up,I can't do it this year but I'm almost certain to run it in 2017,I do wish they change it back to a night race at some point, make the 10K at night as well, that would rock, have an post race party Saturday and Sunday.

Sooooo I think I'm dropping Wine & Dine weekend now that the announcement is out and running the WDW Marathon instead (my first)!!! I still want to do W&D at some point, but I figured maybe it would be good to let them work out the kinks and get the construction done first. (And maybe secretly hope that they'll turn it back into a night race). :yay:

On the registration page. $79 for a ticket.
yes, but isn't it just for family and friends of the runners? it uses the term exclusive after party, for runners, family and friends? the person above made mention of regular disney guests buying tickets? this is my first one, so excuse me if I'm not understanding :)

I'm happy it's a morning race because I like those so much better in general. Plus with all the weather issues in the past, I totally understand why. Of course this year I bet we'll have pretty decent weather because that's the type of game fate likes to play.

As to the parties, I'm always too tired to stay at the parties in general so I'm not worried about that either.

Luckily I got all the days off I needed so time to step up the training to be ready for this new challenge!

I won't be able to run this race like I was hoping because even though I will be in Florida the week of the race we won't have our plans nailed until June and this race will be past sold out by then.

I do like the addition of a challenge and the 10K/Half combination is my favorite. I would prefer a night race because I think it fits the theme better to finish at Epcot and walk straight into the after party but if I was planning to run it I can't say I would be upset at the change. Perhaps when all the construction is done at DHS this will move back to a night time race and ToT will return.

No, it's for anyone that buys a ticket - hence it being "exclusive." You need a ticket to get in, but anyone can buy one.
