Official Wine and Dine 2016 thread

The two times I have done Wine & Dine I didn't make it to the after-party, so I'm not expecting to this year either. :rotfl2:

This will (hopefully) be my first runDisney event. I'm a little nervous about the registration since it seems like everyone says it goes so fast. I'll be registering my cousin and myself but I will have AP so it sounds like I can do it a week early? I don't have my AP yet but will be purchasing it in 12 days on vacation. Does AP registration sell out fast? Is there anything special to doing that; is it the runDisney site or the AP site? On the regular registration day how do I register, is it on the runDisney site? Sorry for all the questions, I'm a little nervous because my sister's family planned their vacation for the weekend after the race since I'd be down there but they already had to book (timeshare).

Yep, you can do early AP registration. Whether you can register your cousin is a murky area...I would guess that it's not kosher to use your AP early registration for someone that doesn't live with you. I'm going to call runDisney to ask them since they have never given an official answer on this (and I potentially want to register my husband for something early).

Yes. They put aside something like 10% of the number of registrations for AP holders, so you're competing for one of 1,000ish spots.

You want to make sure your AP is connected to your My Disney Experience Account - then log on to the passholder section there, and there will be a link for you to follow to register.

The registrations are handled through Active.com, so make sure to make an account there for both you and your cousin. runDisney will post links to the registration area of Active.com on registration day. :) Hope this helps![/QUOTE]

It does thank you! I wasn't sure if this was the appropriate place so I had just created a new thread. I wasn't going to try and register my cousin through AP, just the normal process since she won't have access to a computer at noon and it sounds like this sells out fast.

Hello everyone. Haven't been on in quite a while with no Disney races to do but staring down at W&D so logged on and saw this thread.

Haven't caught up on all the pages but decided to jump in.

Has anyone noticed that there is no time for the 5K and expo listed? All other races have that information. Any thoughts that maybe a 10K will be added to make a challenge???

Also, I'm going to look into travel agencies and I think the guy everyone always raves about is Tom Stone, maybe???? What's the name of the company?

Thanks.

I didn't make it to any of the parties either... I'm not a late night person and the race is late enough for me.

I'm definitely hoping I can grab a spot in the W&D half! I just got back a couple weeks ago from the Rebel Challenge (which was a blast) but am not registered for the Dark Side weekend, so W&D is my only chance to complete my Coast to Coast this year. runDisney isn't something I'll be able to afford every year, but I would love to cross Coast to Coast off my bucket list and then probably take a break from Disney races next year.

I will likely try to sign up for the Jingle Jungle as well to run it with my fiance, though it is second priority. This may seem petty, but I kind of wish the Disney 5Ks were a) timed and b) had something a little nicer than a rubber medal for what you pay to run them. Definitely wondering why the 5K hasn't been officially scheduled yet with registration being only a month out, but whether it's on Friday or Saturday won't change whether I want to run it. I already know Saturday won't be a park day for me as I'll want to save my legs.

Baring any crazy weather (knock on wood), I have a goal to finish W&D in under 2 hours, which I have yet to do in a half. (I got closer in the Star Wars half earlier this month and finished in 2:12:27.) But mainly, I'm super excited for the after party and all the delicious food and beverages! The F&W Festival was one of my favorite things about my Fall WDW College Program in 2013 and it will be so great to experience again!

Hi!

I'm new at this and I have a couple of questions

1) I was going to fly in from Ohio for the Jingle Jungle but I only want to arrive a day before the races. Fights go on sale in about three weeks, but they don't have a day listed for the Jingle Jungle? Do we just assume it will be Friday and not Saturday? It seems like every other 5K for every other event is on a Friday, but I'm worried it will be on Saturday instead of Friday and I don't want to arrive a day earlier than I need to because I really can't take that much time off.

2) I was thinking of staying at Animal Kingdom Lodge because it's close to the race, but it's not listed as one of the "host" hotels with transportation to and from the race. If I did stay at Animal Kingdom Lodge, how do I get to and from the Expo to pick up my stuff and how do I get to and from the Jingle Jungle on race morning?

3) Same question but for a "host" hotel. Lets say Boardwalk. How do I get too and from the Expo? Do they have a free bus you can take from the hotels or do I have to buy a cab or something? And how do you get to and from the races from host hotels? Do they just have shuttles running in a loop all morning or something?

Thank you!!!

You can register your husband with your AP. I contacted RunDisney last year and was told as long as you live in the same household it is fine. So parents can register kids that live with them and wife can register husband.

1) There is speculation as to why they haven't released the 5K date/time yet. The president for the 5K paired with the Wine & Dine half has been the morning of the race (Saturday). If they are adding a 10K/challenge it would most likely move the 5K to Friday.

2) If you are staying at a non-host resort (the list on the runDisney site as of 2/4/16 8am is still from 2015 so it may change) your easiest options to get to/from the Expo and race(s) include renting a car, taking a taxi, or getting an Uber.

) If you are staying at a host resort, there will be charter coach buses (not the kind that Disney uses for on property transportation but more comfortable ones like for Magical Express or DCL transfers) to take you to/from the Expo and race events. There will be a specific and separate pick up/drop off location so the everyday WDW guest doesn't get on the wrong bus, but they aren't too far from the normal spots.

Thanks. I did call them for something unrelated and forgot to ask about this...I used to think that the early registrations should be for AP holders only, but someone elsewhere pointed out that APs can use their in-park privileges (i.e. merchandise discounts) for others, and this is another perk of the AP, so it should be able to be used in a similar manner...not totally sure what I think of that since there are so few spots for earlier registration, but if it's okay by runDisney then I will definitely try to take advantage. :)

Perfect! Thanks a bunch Bumbershoot & Yoda.

Forgot how much I missed this. This with the fact of looking up resorts has got me pumped up for W&D and it's 9 months out!

We stayed at AKL for Wine & Dine this past year - I had my personal vehicle, so I was able to drive to both the Expo AND to the JJ5k.

But, I would say to look into Uber/Lyft - especially for the morning of the 5k. It will cost you like MAYBE $5.

Also, Uber/Lyft can get you to the Expo - but if you're looking for a free (but more time-consuming) option, unless you plan on getting there REALLY early, I would take transportation to the TTC and then take the monorail to one of the host resorts and grab a bus from there. It will take some time out of your park time, but it's another alternative.

Subscribing...

Long time runner first time disney runner. How quick is the sell out on this race on registration day? I plan to be at my pc at noon on the 15th with the mouse finger (pun intended) ready to sign up! Also I plan to book the rooms and such after I secure registration, I see many securing lodging pre registration, is there an advantage to doing so?

It's quick for this one. Something like 30 minutes last year (if that).

Reason being (in my opinion) it's the only night race left and it's the only fall race at WDW - they used to have ToT around that time, but now this is the only one. So for some people it's the last chance to get a Coast-to-Coast if they've done a DLR race. Also, it's the last weekend of Food & Wine AND Veteran's Day weekend...

Lodging advantage is just making sure you get in where you want to be, I guess. The risk is that they haven't confirmed host resorts yet.

It is also the distance race with the smallest entry field that runDisney offers. (And this year it is the weekend before Veterans' Day Weekend and most likely won't be on the last weekend of Food and Wine)

I'm thinking about doing the 5k in the morning with the kids and then the half that night, I wonder how stressful that would be, I don't want to be tired for the half and the after party.
I did this with ToT 10-miler in 2013 as my first long race ever. 5K early in the morning and 10mi at night. I loved it and had no issues whatsoever. All I did was stick to a pretty basic half marathon training plan and I was fine. :)

I'd love it if they added a 10K. DS is almost 11, ran his first 10K in DL (SW Light Side), and will do the Dark Side 10K in Apr. He's been running 5Ks since he was 8, so they are "less cool" to him... ... ;)
