Official Wine and Dine 2016 thread

So had this whole trip planned out months ago and now come to find out the hubs can't go

We were staying at AKL for the first time so now I'm in a deluxe alone :sad1: Already bought him a party ticket and everything. I'm running the challenge and not leaving until Monday so I'll enjoy the after party alone :sad2: Disappointing, but what can you do. It's a non-negotiable thing at work he didn't even know about. *sigh*

Let's look on the bright side at some silver linings ... this has now become the ultimate YOU trip! Want to take it easy post-race and relax in the room? You can! Want to take a long bath and prep for bed way earlier than you normally would? YOU CAN! Want to ride EE 19 times in a row in the single-rider line? CONGRATS - TOTALLY DOABLE! Eat where you want, when you want. GO where you want, when you want. Sleep in the middle of the bed with ALL the pillows.

I'm with you - I miss my husband on the days that he's not on trips with me, but I really have grown to love my solo time at the parks. Just me, doing what I want to do when I want to.

But the cool thing is there are SO many people on this thread that will be there - and lots of people are going solo or in friend groups. W&D last year, I met more DISers pre-race, during the race and afterwards than I have at ANY other race weekend. So, yes, you will be solo - but you most certainly WON'T be alone.

Thanks for this, although I'm not the original poster...I'm going alone too. The hubs is not flying down until the afternoon of the 1/2 and then we're staying the week for F&W festival. I have never traveled for a rD race alone before, but I'm trying to embrace it. :)

Thanks @Ariel484 and @Keels! You're right, it is still wonderful that I get to go and am able to continue doing these races year after year. This was the race I wanted to do with him and we went last year and we all know what happened, so he's quite disappointed that he cant come to see me run. I went solo for Princess this year, my first challenge, and literally got on a plane within two hours after I crossed the finish line. This time will be my first time going solo to the parks and to the runner's party so it should be interesting! I am running Princess in February but have told my husband that if I can break the 2 hour mark with Wine and Dine then I will sign up for the Marathon in January :earseek::cool1: Here's to hoping I get some major pixie dust!

Bummer @pclvnmcky88 I can understand how frustrated and disappointed you are. However, what great advice from @Keels to make the most of the trip and really pamper yourself!

Those of you who received your bag tags. When do you arrive? This will be a kid free trip for my wife and I and don't want them to find these in the mail. We aren't ready to tell them yet that we are going without them. :-)

We arrive on the 2nd and I received ours about two weeks ago maybe?

Nov. 1 & got them 9/29

Thank you for all the well wishes everyone <3

Until I have the MRI on Thursday (yay insurance approval waits!) & thus have a much more clear answer about the extent of my injury - I'm holding off on calling RunDisney. Right now, the podiatrist believes its a stress fracture but my X-Ray came back negative (which usually only will show positive if its super late stage or super fresh or chronic)

If I ended up not being able to defer, oh well. As my husband is running the races anyway and our trip to the Swan is already paid for, if I can't defer - I'm still going to pick up my bib/shirts/etc. I paid for all of that! I'll still go to the after party. Depending on how it feels - I may very well walk the 10K from the last corral (and if I get swept - I won't be angry about it - at least I get my shiny metal and the reason for failure isn't because I was badly trained) I wouldn't attempt to walk the half no matter how I feel. I'll cheer on my husband and his super fast self so that maybe I'll actually be able to get photos myself of him at the finish line with my good camera.

I may relook at the special events for Food & Wine on Thursday thru Saturday. I had originally ignored certain events as I didn't want to drink too much pre-run - that doesn't matter now! I can totally enjoy a wine dinner now when I don't have to worry about a half marathon! (Have to think about the positives)

If I have to miss a Challenge - I much rather it be Wine & Dine Weekend than Star Wars as I'm trying to maintain my legacy for both Light Side & Dark Side Challenges.

I'm behind on the Boards this week but wanted to say sorry you're injured! Hope you are able to still enjoy the F&W fun even if you have to skip the race(s).

Sorry for the change in plans. I'm another solo racer. It'll be my first time at Disney solo. I'm kind of looking forward to being able to set the schedule but hoping I don't get lonely!

My tags arrived today!:D I fly in on 11/3.

Ran the Diva 1/2 this weekend and it was interesting. My knee felt pretty good. The course was tough and super hilly, but the downhills were the only thing that bothered my knee, and more so when I walked. We had a great first half of the race, perfectly on pace. I felt really good and strong. Around mile 6 my BRF said, "I'm done". And she meant that literally. I tried to get her to run every other run interval, but she was really struggling so I just tried to keep her at a decent walk pace. She offered around mile 8 for me to go ahead without her, but when we talked about my knee she said she'd walk it with me if she had to so I wanted to stay with her and motivate her to finish the race. A little disappointing, but we got it done. Hopefully my knee feels as good for Hershey and I can redeem myself. (And she has promised to stick to her training for W&D weekend!)
Hi Gretchen! I'm sorry to hear about your BRF at the Diva! I was hoping to see you! The course was super hilly but overall I'm pleased with finishing my first half! I'm actually running a 10K there 10/16 but the course looks better! None of those awful neighborhood hills! Lol! I'm glad to hear your knee didn't bother you! Good luck at Hershey and maybe we'll "run" into each other at W&D!

No tags here yet, but I just remembered to sign up for Magical Express a couple days ago, so that's why. Hopefully they'll come within a couple weeks. We're scheduled to arrive on Thursday the 3rd.

I cannot believe how fast it's coming up! We're probably only a couple weeks away from the event guide/waivers/corrals. Perhaps the week after this coming week? ;) I'm so excited, but am also starting to get a bit nervous. After the huge letdown of the half of a half last year, the weather is weighing heavy on my mind. If it rains, it rains and I'll deal, but I could not deal with another cancelled or shortened race.

On another note, what is everyone's departure date? Is anyone else not staying for the after party and having to leave on Sunday like me? I'm not complaining, since I'm grateful just to have been able to get Thursday and Friday off, but I'm a bit bummed to not have the post-race park time for medal photos. I'm hoping to be able to have time to get over to Disney Springs in the afternoon after cleaning up and checking baggage to get some photos there since our flight isn't until 7:55.

Dear American Airlines- Please drop your prices. You're starting to stress me out and I still need to buy my flights for Wine and Dine!!

This will be my first completely solo trip too. I'm really looking forward to it, even though I know I'm going to miss my family.

No luggage tags for me yet, but I think I'm just going to do carry on anyway. No way would I check my running stuff. Princess weekend this year I was in the lobby at OKW and there were two ladies there at the desk saying that their luggage had been lost by the airlines will all their running gear inside. That's my worst nightmare!

I always do a small carry on with my running shoes and outfits, body glide, gu, and water bottle.

Yep, I carry on all my running stuff too! Not having my broken in running shoes to wear would be a big nightmare for sure.

I'm thinking the chances of a thunderstorm in the am are a lot slimmer so hopefully we won't have any race issues!!! I don't leave till the Wed, but my older brother won't be at the after party as he is local & has kid stuff later that day. I've read in FB groups lots of others heading out before the after party. You could also do medal pictures at your resort, my sis-in-law did that after Princess since they didn't go to a park.

I am leaving Sunday afternoon as well. I received a job offer last week with a non- negotiable start date of the 7th, so I had to book new flights and change our whole trip around. Even though I am so grateful for this job, I was pretty disappointed at first. Now I've come around, and am excited a new arrival day shaved a few days off the countdown!
