Official Wii/DS Q/A thread. FAQ in first post! Game reviews in second post!

Hi,

If I buy some of the old Mario games that were created for the older game consoles using Wii points, do I save them on the Wii, an SD card, or can I actually get some use out of the large memory card that goes in the slot on top of the Wii that came with our bundle by saving them there? :confused3

Thanks!

Save them directly to the wii memory!
1) you can save it to a SD card, however you have to trasport it to tme wiimemory if you plan to actually play it.

20 The LARGE memory card that goes into the top of the wii is ONLY for use with old Gamecube games. Otherwise it's completely worthless.
(go to gamestop and buy some old gamecube games and you'll get some use out of the big memeory card. There were some great games for it that mony people missed out on. here is a list of a few...Metroid Prime 1&2, Eternal Darkness, Super Mario Sunshine, Zelda teh Wind Waker, Metal gear Solid Twin Snakes, Mario Kart Double Dash, Pikmin, SSX Tricky, Paper Mario (thousand year door), Mario Power Tennis, Mario Golf, Baten Kaitos,The original Animal Crossing, All opf the old Resident Evil games 0-4...so theres alot you can use your memory card with and you should be able to get them pretty cheap!

All of those are great games! However, I wouldn't recommend getting the Gamecube versions of Pikmin or Mario Power Tennis at this point. Nintendo is starting to re-release some Gamecube titles with added functionality for the Wii, and these will be the first two. So if you haven't played them yet and think you might enjoy them, it might be better to wait for the new versions. On the other hand, they will be more expensive than the Gamecube versions so if you don't care about the new controls then it might be better to go on and grab the older (and less expensive) versions. I think the new versions come out in March.

What size SD card should we use if we only plan to download a few things? There are 2 Springsteen songs that will be free for GH that I want and then we have some points that the kids want to use for a virtual console game or 2 or another song for GH. They also would like to use the mixer on GHWT and create something. I have some old SD cards from old camera's that are 512 mb, but should I just use the maximum that the Wii will allow and go with a 2G card? I bought a 2G that I was going to use for the camera but I could cont. to use the 512, it's not that big a deal I guess, but I don't want 1G of memory just sitting there and not being used, if you know what I mean. I could get more use out of it in the camera unless it'll fill up in the Wii.:confused3

it just depends on what you are going to end up downloaded. 512 should be fine, cause that is the same ammount of memory the Wii has. 2 gig is a lot, unless you start downloading lots of songs for GH!

If we start out by using the 512 mb card and it fills up, is there a way to transfer the stuff to a larger card? Can you move the stuff to the Wii memory then to a new larger memory card?

If my kids start creating songs with the mixer will that use up alot? What about 1-2 virtual console games?

Unless they have money to buy songs on line they won't be doing that and I don't plan on them doing that. So far they haven't had any interest in that. I am the one who wants the Springsteen songs and they will be free for like a week.

If you have a Microcenter near you, I suggest you go there and buy a big card--like a 2 gig. They have them very cheap and I think it's better to go bigger and not need it than even consider transferring.

Plus you can always use it for digital cameras and things...

As for your question, as long as you actually have space on the wii, you can move things back and forth.

I have a 2G card that I got on sale that I planned to use for the camera but I can easily just cont. to use the 512 mb for the camera, I'll just have to d/l the pics more often for that camera, I have another 2G for another camera that I use more.

Another question about the SD card, do you need to format it to use in the Wii or just delete everything on it?

DO NOT use the 512mb card..it will be a waste of time!
1 song for Rb or Gh is between 25-40mb depending on the songs length.

as my my DW suggested if you have a microcenter near buy go and buy their 2gb sd card for about 9bucks!!!

a few other things about sd cards and the wii....DO NOT use anything over 2Gb as the wii will not read it at this point.

You WILL NOT have to transfer songs back and forth. simply download the songs to your sd card. have the card in the slot and when the song is selected to play in rb or gh it will "transfer on it's own" over to the wii's memory until you are done with the song then transfer back to the card. You will need to do nothing.

Go bigger now and save yourself the hassle later.

I am thinking of buying an additional Wii Guitar for Rockband. Any suggestions on which one? Are they all the same?

Thanks!

Kim

I pretty much always suggest that you buy the periferal (guitar, gun, wheel, whatever) from the maker of the game. But I know a couple of people around here bought third party versions, so hopefully they can give you some reviews.

If all things are equal (price/availability) I would highly suggest buying the RB-made guitar.

We got the Rockster Guitar from Target. It works with both GH and RB and was about $40 on sale. We've been happy with it so far and it's gotten a LOT of play!:thumbsup2

I would like info from all of you that have wii fit.

We want it, but I just don't know about paying that much for a game. So, I want to know if it is worth it. Can using it everyday actually help you lose weight? Does the board have a weight limit? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

The weight limit is 330 pounds. We just started using ours this weekend so I'm not sure if it will help lose weight but definately tone your body. After the first day, most of my muscles are sore.(I'm really out of shape) We enjoy the balance exercises also!!

I think that if you do the aerobics, you can lose weight. I have found that the biggest bang for my buck towards feeling like I'm burning off the calories is the running portion. I run about 3.5 miles in 20 minutes. I'm not a big fan of running, but they do make it a little more interesting...passing other mii's that are my family members, the terrain, etc. (I swear it feels like I'm running uphill on the stupid bridge!)

Otherwise, I agree with the above poster. The true strength in this program is that it helps you to tone up. The strength training is good for that. The main focus is to make yourself healthier overall. Also, you can build up a sweat during the hoola-hoops!! Anyway, I love the WiiFit! I highly recommend it!
