Official Wii/DS Q/A thread. FAQ in first post! Game reviews in second post!

If you mean Platform as in Mario or Sonic style games...they are all ONE player. (i'm not counting the point things out feature of Mario Galaxy)

Almost all true platform games are always single player. Mario, Sonic, Crash, Spyro, ect.

If this is what you mean by platform then that answers your question if you mean somethign else by "platform" game then please explain what you mean by it so I can better answer your question.

No, you pretty much got it right. We discovered we like the games we're we can play against or with each other hence the Monkey Ball, Mario and Sonic at the Olympics, Rock Band, and sports.

I think we would both like Super Mario Galaxy, Zelda, Harry Potter and Zack and Wiki but we'd like them better if we could play together, rather than one having to wait while the other played.

We will add some if not all of these to our collection over time. I have limited our budget to 1 or 2 games a month.

Thank you to everyone on this forum. I read all 208 pages before we bought our Wii. We bought the Wii, Wii play (for the extra remote) and an extra nunchuk because of what I read on here. And it was perfect for us.

We have Wii fit and a second guitar for Rock Band on our ever expanding list of wants!

So far most of what we have taken away from everyone's posts has been spot on.

Great work!

Unfortunatly most adventure-style games have pretty much always been single player.

The few that were true mulitplayer (ChronoTrigger comes to mind) were usually huge successes, but very few and far between. The other systems have true multiplayer adventure games, but the Wii really doesn't yet. It probably never will have more than one or 2. :-(

I need Pokemon game info for both the DS and the Wii

I notice there are like a zillion of them out for the DS, what are the differences in them all? Are they all basiclly the same as far as game play goes?

Is there a basic Pokemon for the DS, that would be good for my 5 yo to start on?

Is the Pokemon's that are for the DS and the Wii, are they similar in game play?

Anything else I should know about the pokemon games that I am not asking? :lmao:

Thanks bunches!

A 5 year old will struggle with Pokemon unless they are a very good reader.

There is a LOT of reading in the games and they are very involved and take a long time to complete. I even get stuck from time to time.

That said, I would go with Diamond or Pearl for the DS since they are the newest. Avoid Pokemon Mystery Dungeon...yuck. And I would skip the Wii game and hope that a better one comes out. It's just not worth buying at this point.

You could probably find Ruby or Saphire used for cheap too.

The real pokemon games that keep the interest going are the ones that have two options, but are essentially the same game (Ruby/Saphire, Diamond/Pearl).

We have had our Wii fit for almost six months and love it. There is one thing that I would like to fix. It says that we weigh about 20 lbs less then we actually do. I would LOVE for that to be true, but I would like an acurate reading. Does anyone know how to change it so that it is right?

I think there is a way to do it in the options or settings menu. I swear I read about it before...

You could try googling adjust wii fit scale or something, I bet it would come up...

Or I'm sure someone on here will know the actual answer!

I have no idea what I weigh so I really hope what the wiifit says is accurate! I'm already "obese" according to it, I hope I don't weigh 20 more.

I had that problem with mine and I figured out that it was because we were using it on carpet (we had it on a hardwood floor previously). Once I added the "risers" to the feet it was accurate again. HTH.

I decided to get DH a game for Valentine's Day. Romantic, huh? :rotfl: So help me choose something. He just finished Paper Mario and loved that one. I know we have Okami, Mario Kart, Rayman, Medal of Honor, Wii Fit, Wii Play, Ratatouille, Super Mario Galaxy, Star Wars the Force Unleashed. Any ideas? I'd prefer one that's not brand new and pricey, since we're remodeling at the moment.

Why don't you try and find Paper Mario for the Gamecube. It should be cheap and if he really liked the Wii one, the GC one is very similiar.

Zelda!! Looking at your list that is the one game missing that really seems to fit his likes. Hopefully you don't already have it.

Otherwise? I would consider downloading Super mario RPG and/or Secret of Mana. They are very old school, but some of the best adventure games that are available to play on the Wii...

HTH

He may like Zack & Wiki: Quest for Barbaros' Treasure if he likes puzzle, role playing games like Super Mario Galaxy. Or also Zelda Twilight Princess. Or Lego Star Wars The Complete Saga has been out for over a year and I've seen it for around $20 new.

Okay. Thanks for the ideas. I'll go looking tonight or tomorrow morning. I'm not really into games that much, so I didn't have a clue. I also thought I'd ask DD if he's mentioned wanting anything to her.

The wife means Secret of Mana is Multiplayer not Chrono Trigger!

As the Dw said a 5year old is going to struggle with any pokemon game until they are a solid reader. What many prents dont understand is Pokemon is an RPG and is very TEXT heavy. You can't just simply play it like a mario game.

That said let me expand on what the Dw said...

Ruby/Saphire/Emrald are all the same game overall...Emrald is basically the other 2 with a few extra story elements. They were the last Pokemon games onteh GBA.

Diamond/Pearl are the Ds Pokemon games....wait a few more weeks and Platnium is arriving which is again the same game as these 2 with more story and a few new pokemon evolutions. If your going to buy a pokemon game Platnium will be the one to get.

As for Pokemon Wii/Gamecube....a lot less reading is involved but it's still there. It plays nothign like the handheld versions and you don't actually "Catch 'em all" heck you don't catch any pokemon in these versions just fight with them. They may be a good way for him to be introduced to the world while his reading skills get better. You should also be able to find one cheep espically the old gamecube colleseum (yes I know I spelled that wrong! ;) some of us can't sue the spellcheck on this computer...and some of us are to lazy to look it up,...and some of us just can't spell period!)

Hope this helps a bit more for you.

Oh and as the Dw said rescue force is no fun...though I can see a little kid getting a kick out of it, but it really only uses pokemon as charcters it is no where near what the true game is about.

I second these....ZELDA, SUPER MARIO RPG, and SECRENT OF MANA (my all time favorite game...oh and it can be played multiplayer after about 20 minutes into the game)

I found a site through bzzagent today that I think a lot of you will be very interested in!

www.whattheyplay.com

It's a family site that explains WHY the ESRB rated a game a certain way and where to find the questionable material in each game.

bumpin in case there are any new questions.

For those that would like ot know Punch Out is due out in may and nintendo has a new racing game in the works....i'll try to post info soon.
