Official Wii/DS Q/A thread. FAQ in first post! Game reviews in second post!

Kinda OT: Has anyone read anything about the longevity of the PS2? I thought that the new games would be fazed out for this but I read or heard somewhere that if developers are going to be making new games for the Wii that there isn't that much to do to also make the same game for the PS2. Supposedly Sony had said they'd support each system for approx 10 yrs and I think the orig PS was supported for 9 yrs and the PS2 is going on 7 or 8.

And has anyone read or seen anywhere if NCAA football or basketball will be coming out for the Wii?

Due to the continued unpopularity of the PS3, developers have continued to make games for the PS2 and will for at least another year or so. Sony is finally starting to sell the PS3, but it is still way cheaper and more profitable to make games for the PS2. So unlike the Gamecube, it is not a dead system...yet. You will definitely see more games be PS3 only, but not any of the big sports games.

They have not announced any NCAA games for the Wii as of yet. I don't know why. EA makes the games and they put Madden on the Wii, so it's weird. I'm sure DH can tell you more about that.

The PS2 just turned 7. I thought it was more like 12! :scared:

I thought I was done but you guys convinced me with all your great reviews to get the Rayman Raving Rabbids2. I had a Target 10% off shopping pass so I picked up those 2 extra remotes that DH insists we need as well.

Boy, reading this thread has cost me a ton of $$$ :lmao:

I hope everyone enjoys their Wii's! I can't wait to see how much our family enjoys it and to hear how much everyone here enjoys it as well!

Merry Christmas :santa:

Ahhh, so you bought something else besides candles at Target today? (I'm following you! :thumbsup2 )

HSM is just karaoke. There's a great HSM karaoke CD if you already have the machine.

Hannah Montana is a dance game. No one should buy a dance game that doesn't use a dance pad IMO. It's just stupid to wave your arms around without having to move your feet.

So you are saying that any regular karaoke CD's with graphics will work in the wii? Then do you need to have a mic via one of the mic games or is there one available separately?

and

We got the DDR wii version for DD12. She loved it on her friend's PS2 last year (so did Mommy). Is that the only dance game that uses a dance pad?

No, no no!! I just have the disney karaoke CD and know that its good. Sorry for the confusion!!!

So far yes, the current DDR is the only one on the Wii that uses the pad, but there will be PLENTY of games to come. Probably mostly DDR games, tho.

There are two other things similar coming out. Wii Fit (January 08)uses a special 'balance board' You're going to be able to do yoga and aerobics and mini games like soccer with it. I can't wait.

Also Konomi (I think) is bringing back the activity pad. WAAAY back in the day there was a pad (a lot like the DDR pad) that you used to play olympic sports like running and long jumping. I've heard that you might be able to use the dance pad with this.

DH and I will keep you all informed about both of these. :thumbsup2

Again sorry for the karaoke confusion! :flower3:

So, your disney karaoke CD is just a regular one that you've tried and works and others MAY work too? Do you use a mic with it? Is a mic even available separately or do you have to get a Wii Boogie or HSM 2 Sing it?

Thank you so much for being patient and providing sooooo much info for us all.

NO DISCS OTHER THEN WII OR GAMECUBE WILL WORK IN THE WII...what she means is if you play the HSM Karaoke DVD in your DVD player that it will work just as well as buying the game and be much cheaper. same basic thing without a controler in your hand...think a karaoke at the bar vs a game.

THe wwe game is good for thouse you hav not played a ton of wrestling games in the past.

For those of us who are wrestling game vets the game is sevearly lacking in options and depth. It's a step in the right direction, but not what I was expecting in a wrestling game for the wii. In fact they dumbed it down and offer fewer move choices.

This would be why this 20+year wrestling vet and game freak has not bought the wwe raw vs smackdown 07 game.

Who me :rolleyes1 I can't break my streak of not walking out of Target without spending less than $100!

Do you recommend buying some sort of a charger for the remotes (it seems like I've seen one somewhere:confused3 )? DH has been playing Wii for about 1 1/2 weeks now and it looks like the primary remote will soon need new batteries.

Hey you guys! I've been reading this thread for a while and was wondering if anyone had some thoughts on Rayman Raving Rabbids 1 & 2.

I am giving my fiancee a Wii for Christmas -- shes been dying to get one. We're not big gamers, if you will...but we enjoy the Wii concept. Looking for some fun games to play together, just the two of us. I've personally never been very good with complex games....Thoughts?

Cheers,
Josh

Josh...we bought Rayman Raving Rabbids 2 last week...our first Wii game and LOVE IT! It goes pretty quickly (not many levels) but the ones they do have are HILLARIOUS! We play it over and over and over again. We love the one where you must not get caught using your cell phone (Wii mote help upright) in the movies... it actually talks (the speaker) when you hold it up to your ear, it's too much fun!

Rabbids 1, we bought after buying 2 and loving it but the thing I don't like is it's only really a 1 player game unless you unlock the levels first in the solo mode.

I actually bought the "Wii Zapper with Link Crossbow Training included" today to give DH for Christmas. He does LOVE Zelda, so it looked like something he'd enjoy. I'll have to let you know. Also got Disney Enchanted Princess game for DD6, too. We've bought a bunch of games for DD10 that I don't know if DD6 is ready for, so I felt sorry for her (I was already done buying her presents...what are ya gonna do? ). Now the only question is...will Mom ever get to play Wii?

I see Walmart has their $700 bundle in stock again, I think it's a shame they are taking advantage of those who wish to purchase one by pushing all the other items on them. I sent an email, probably to deaf ears but maybe someone will listen. Did you see that Nintendo voiced their displeasure at retailers requiring bundle purchases as well?

;)

Yes, I do. Others choose to use regular rechargeble batteries, but I really like having the Nyko remote charging. i can't recommend any other brand since I haven't used them personally and most get bad reviews. But I love my Nyko charger. I know this is in the FAQ in the first post, it might have a link to the charger on Amazon.

Has anyone tried Link's Crossbow training? Is it fun / worth it?

Yep, we have it. DH really liked it. It's just a simple little minigame though, not a real game. We really thought we wanted the gun attachment to play Resident Evil, but DH really doesn't like it for anything except the Crossbow Training. So I guess it's a bit of a mixed review--you are really buying it for the gun, not the 'game' and I doubt we'll use the gun on other games, which is what we had intended. Still it is Link, so you know I'd buy it again! lol

You got a great answer, so I'll just say I agree with everything she said.

I didn't mind that the 1st one was one player. And I think both games are great for novice gamers. They are totally funny and fun to play.

Yeah. I posted it a couple of pages ago. Reggie sounded really POd. It makes it look like the system costs as much as a PS3 (or more!), but they keep selling out.

Oh, and I know for sure that at least TRU doesn't HAVE to sell them that way. When I bought one for my mom, I got to the store (with the ad in my hand) and I told them I only wanted the system when they tried to sell me a bundle. I said your ad didn't say anything about a bundle and I just want the system. and they gave it to me.
