Official Wii/DS Q/A thread. FAQ in first post! Game reviews in second post!

Hi Christy and happy birthday to your dh!
Hey-thanks Donna! I hope Maddy is doing well!
I'm a sport game nunt and I can tell you that at this point the only 2 sportsd games I would buy are Madden and the newest tiger woods. The NBA Live basketball game isn't quite up to snuff. Power pro baseball is ok, but You might as well just play the wiiplay mini 3 inning baseball games as the controls are just as good if not better. For a Fun arcade style game Mario Strikers Soccer is super fun and one of those games the kids will have a blast with also!

Any other sports games question(on a certain game or anything) just ask.

Thanks so much for the tips! ToysRUs didn't have the Tiger Woods game, (and I haven't checked elsewhere yet), but I think DH would really like it. I know he'd like Madden, but if it has the constant noise that a typical football game has, it will drive me crazy.:crazy2: Yikes, I'm getting old...:rotfl2:

I've read on another board that Cooking Mama Cookoff is pretty good. I picked it up tonight based on someone's tip that Circuit City has it on sale. Regular price $49.99, on sale for $29.99. DMil got DD My Disney Kitchen for the PC years ago, and my kids have loved it. Cooking Mama sounds very similar to the Disney Kitchen one. Any thoughts on this game? Thanks.

I have this game. Infact I just finished it a few weeks ago. I dont have gold in everything, but all the recipes are unlocked now. Its a OK game. The controls can be a little iffy sometimes. Like when your trying to peel carrots and potatoes, it can be off a little. Also trying to move things in a pan to keep it from burning, is a huge pain! And I know its not just my wii or my copy of the game cuz my sister has the wii and game to, and she to has a problem with the things I mentioned. So its def. a glitch in the game. Then again, the game came out shortly after the wii came out, so the controlls were still new at the time. They are still new till this date. Its new technology - its not gonna be perfect.

Thanks for the input on the Cooking Mama game. I'd love to hear what others think as well.

How about Cars and Mater-National? Is the Mater one any better than the first one?

:thumbsup2 Now would DH use the mute button or turn on surround sound?! Hmmm...:rotfl2:

Well if he's like me then the sound will be cranked!
:happytv:
(pretending the light from the tv is sound waves!)

Can't tell you anythign about cooking mama other then female gamers seem to love it for whatever reason.

Cars is a ton of fun, but not an easy game. Reports from back when the game first came out was that many younger gamers we're having a hard time progressing though the game. What I played was fun and I had little problem, but I can see a younger one having a rough time.

As for Mater...no one has played it yet...seems like everyone is holding off to the holliday for that game. That said hopefully it isn't as hard as the first. Also I have yet to find a review for mater anywhere on the internet. I'll check a few old magazines and see if any of them have the info, but I don't recall seeing it.

Trust me in that you are not the only one that has asked about this game and I promise i'll pass on the reviews asap.

Just stopping by to say hi!

I've been letting DH do some answering since he feels left out sometimes! lol

DH got his Wii tonight and has already been playing Wii Sports (not sure if he's ever going to bed tonight...:rotfl2: ).

Anyone have any tips on finding one. I'm so beyond sick of seeing them on ebay for hundreds more than retail when all I want is to buy one for my DF for Christmas. I tried everyone today but I got the same answer call each day first thing in the morning.

I second mindyd's recommendation to subscribe to wii alerts as you can still find them available at the manufacturer's suggested cost online. Or... just continue to call stores every morning... but be prepared to hop in your car and run to the store that you call at the time of your call because they go faster than fast!!

And for goodness sakes.... STOP LOOKING AT EBAY if it makes you sick.... you should know better... eBay is all about supply & demand and you know you won't find one for $250 there so just don't look......

Good luck! I hope you are able to find one.....

I third the recommendation to use wiialerts. Although I managed to get a wii last year, my DS wanted the guitar hero iii game this year. I looked and looked and then signed up at wiialerts and within a few hours I had my game. Got the cell phone alert that it was available, logged on and ordered the game at amazon. What a wonderful system.

you can also try your local craigs list. It's an online site where
people list and sell things.

around here sellers have come down to 300 and 325 for the console
new in box. If you ordered it , it would still cost around 300 with
tax and if you had to pay for shipping that would add a few dollars
so paying 300 to 325 is the same.

Some people are still asking 400 plus though .

We just kept missing them on line , even with wii alerts , so we tried craigs and got one 4 days ago for 325 /new in box/ with receipt.

So I would also suggest trying there.

For my honey, I took the Nintendo DS plunge. I looked at it vs the PSP and it just seemed like there was a lot more in the way of games and possibility with the DS. Of course, she told me last night that she had changed her mind and now wants a PSP at some point, but she didn't even ask for the DS really, just sort of mentioned that one day she would like one. But, being that I had already bought the DS and a bunch of stuff for it, I am not making the change at this point.

Basically, I am looking to see if I missed anything.

DS Lite crimson & black
DS accessory pack with headphones, car charger, game storage boxes, stylus's, and screen protectors
DS mini backpack storage system holds all of the stuff really neatly
Skin for the DS of tribal flames
2 bundles that include a soft carrying sleeve on a wrist lanyard and a cleaning cloth....not to mention a game....got a puzzle game and a dual game of ATV and Monster Truck racing.
Fingertip stylus's.....Overstock
Laura Croft game.....Overstock
Namco Museum game.....Overstock
Tony Hawk Proving Ground game
Jam Sessions game
Pack of picks for a stylus for use with the Jam Sessions game with screen protectors too.
Two longer life batteries off of Overstock
A special screwdriver that you need to use the batteries off of eBay

Did I get it all? Is there some vital piece that I am missing? She is a gadget geek, so if there is some super nifty thing that I am missing, please let me know. Thanks. Maggie

PS. I really don't want to have to buy more games at this point. I am just trying to cover my bases.

Since you already have these things there's probably no point to my post but I thought I'd mention that I don't see any need for "longer life batteries". DS11 has never had a problem with the amount of time he can play after charging the DS and if you did run low, just plug it in and play.

One reason that I went for the longer life batteries is that she travels for a living and sometimes is on flights that last for hours and hours, so I figured if we made the effort to charge them on the weekends, that she might could make it there and back on the long life batteries without worrying about charging them on the road. I read somewhere, after the purchase, that the WiFi games are battery eaters, so she will be prepared for that scenario too, since she has the Tony Hawk game.

Thanks for the info though! Maggie

PS. The two were less than $20 and free shipping.
