Official Wii/DS Q/A thread. FAQ in first post! Game reviews in second post!

Is the Wii going to work alright if we dont internet connect it? Is it pretty easy to hook up to the tv, like playstation easy? We dont have an internet connect anywhere near the tv and with dial-up it really isnt going to work well. I was so excited to snag one yesterday, I hope it will work alright without the connection. Thanks!

Well, I finally snagged my Wii at 6am today.....evidently our Wal-mart has got a shipment in and they are rationing them out, as to avoid chaos. Now I am in search of Guitar Hero 3 for Wii. The bundle comes with one guitar, but where do you get a second one? Do they sell just the guitar controller seperately? Does it need to be specific to the Wii?

2kids+1 guitar= potential meltdown

Congrats!!
Yes, they sell the guitar seperatly, but I think they are VERY hard to find (like harder than the wii). And yes, you have to buy the one that is specific to the Wii--you can't use the PS2 one or anything else.

Even the publisher of the game is out of stock on their website. It doesn't look they they even have a second controller availble for purchase.

Amazon doesn't have it either.

I would try GameStop and GameCrazy.

Good luck!

If you only end up with one guitar, just make them trade off every song. They each can have their own career and they can switch back and forth. That's how we played at parties until we got a second guitar.:thumbsup2

Yes, you'll be fine. Just don't buy any wii-points cards as they will be useless for you. There is very little IMO that the internet connection does for you at this point. No biggie.

Yes, it is easy to set up and has great instructions. I still recommend you do it before Christmas morning just to be sure though.

Okay, I looked everywhere online I could think of and everyone is out of GHIII. And I didn't see anyone selling just the guitar.

Looks like you'll have to depend on brick & mortar stores.

Just read the instructions. You'll be fine.

Hubby's a tech guy so I'm not worried about the actual synching, just the time involved (you know a 6 year old waiting....waiting...waiting :teeth:.

We'll go ahead and try to get that done before Christmas. Thanks for all of your help!

I saw 2 when I was at our Toys R Us store today.

I ended up buying Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games (in addition to Super Mario Galaxy and Zack & Wiki). Any reviews? They all look fun.:confused3

Maybe 15 minutes? Tops? The only thing that is time consuming at all is hooking it up to the wireless internet.

They are all good choices. http://wii.ign.com has reviews for all of them. Galaxy is by far the best wii game. Z&W is unique and challenging and fun. MvS is a good mini game--family play together game.

Are you trying to decide what to keep or do you plan on keeping all of them? I think they are all good choices. But I can tell you what I would return if forced to. ;)

Thanks for your help. I think I will get MOH Heroes. And wait and see if Excite Truck $ drops in the spring since it has been out since the beginning.

This is a great thread you two have going....

No problem, glad to help!

I just don't want to hear any complaining when someone ends up with something they don't like, just cuz I said I liked it! :scared: That thought has been scaring me a lot lately.

DH and I do the best we can, but we really need to hear reviews from all of you too! K?

Thanks! I plan on keeping all of them (will give the two to our girls/family as gifts from Santa), but will give one to DH this Sat. when his sisters give him the Wii, WiiPlay & remote, & nunchuk for his 40th birthday. :cool1: It sounds like giving Galaxy now would be a good choice. I wanted to get him a sports-type game, but really, aren't WiiPlay & the starter game(s) that come with the Wii sports-related?
Besides Madden, do you have other recommendations for sports-related games that are geared more for adults? Is there some sort of Tiger Woods golf one?

Thanks so much for all of your input!

FYI...if someone's looking...Today I saw Call of Duty 3 for Wii in a "bargain bin" at my local Wal-mart for $25. The bin was in the middle of the main aisle at the end the video game aisle. They also had Pirates of the Carribean and Pool Party for $25.

Followup: I thought that $25 for Call of Duty 3 was a good deal, so I went back today and picked it out of the bin. Went to the electronics counter and it rung up as $49.76. I told the cashier it was in the $25 bin and she responded very politely "Really? This one's not suppose to be in there, but I can correct the price for you to $25. I'll have to make sure there are no more." I told her I knew there were and helped her locate at least 5 more without even digging too deeply, but the bin was about 4 feet tall, 2 feet deep and 4 feet wide with tons of old PS2, XBOX, Wii, Gameboy type games. After that quick search, she went back to her computer to check the Call of Duty 3 inventory and it said they should have 42 of them, most likely in that big bin. I didn't stay and help.:rolleyes1

Question:

ON the sensor bar that comes with it,, how far back can you get
with the remotes and it still work pretty good.

We will be around 18 feet back ,, do you think we will need
to buy the stronger sensor bar ?

thanks,

June

The Wife yet again does not know everything!!!!

Red Octane (the makers) have not begun to sell extra guitars for the wii or ps3 versions of the game yet. They were trying to make sure they have enough of the "full game" for everyone to get before they started to make it much harder to find that by selling guitars seperate.

Last I heard is that we MAY see them before x-mas, but more then likely you will not find just the guitar until after the yule! (aka until jan.)

I'm a sport game nunt and I can tell you that at this point the only 2 sportsd games I would buy are Madden and the newest tiger woods. The NBA Live basketball game isn't quite up to snuff. Power pro baseball is ok, but You might as well just play the wiiplay mini 3 inning baseball games as the controls are just as good if not better. For a Fun arcade style game Mario Strikers Soccer is super fun and one of those games the kids will have a blast with also!

Any other sports games question(on a certain game or anything) just ask.

I do NOT suggest Playing 18' away!- As it will be a little sluggish, and some games will not work at all from that distance. (Rayman I can only be played form about 4' away, or it tells you your to far away get closer!)

That said if thats how your room is set up then YOu will need to buy the Nyko Wireless extended ranger sensor. As the standard sensor goes only to a max of 12'-15'. The Nyko battery opperated works great(it's like $19.99). Should be the first one you see on an amazon search. Like I said I'd play closer, but it's up to you!
