Official Wii/DS Q/A thread. FAQ in first post! Game reviews in second post!

Would you say that the new one is better than Mario Party? My friend said that Party is one we should get for sure, lots of fun, but if anyone with Galaxy thinks it is better, I would rather get it. Or is it just different?

They are 2 completely different games.

Mario Party is a party game for up to 4 people to play together. It's a lot like a board game and it IS really awesome for families or people who play together with friends.

Mario Galaxy is your classic Mario adventure game. It's for one player to play at a time. Your trying to save a princess and you collect items. It's super fantastic.

I would say that Galaxy is definitely more worth the money. I've played it more in 3 days than I've played Mario Party in a year. Well...that's a stretch.

What ages are your children? If they are all above 7, I would get galaxy.

Not saying this is true, but I called the 1-800 and they said that unless the ad says In-Store Only, then it should be assumed that the deal will be available online as well. I will certainly be checking there first before heading out.

Thanks for that info!

Yes, but I've noticed that the Wii items I looked at are not eligible for their free shipping promo,so in my mind that kind of defeats the purpose.

OK, I think we are officially maxed out onthe Wii for Christmas. Here is what we have

Wii
Wii play w/ extra remote
extra nunchuck
charger with rechargeable packs
Wii shooter (or whatever it is called)

Games:
Super Mario Galaxy
Wario Ware
Mario Party 8
Madden 08
Carnival Games
Crash of the Titans
Thrillville Off the Rails
Mario & Sonic at the Olympics
MLB Power Pros
Zack & Wiki
Spongebob Creature from the Krusty Krab
and Possibly - Spongebob Atlantis Squarepantis

I can't possibly imagine that we are missing anything that we could possibly need but is there some must have that anyone sees is missing from this already enormous list?

How much will shipping be? It would have to be a LOT for me to feel driving there (we are not close to one) and dealing with the mob scene is worth it. I think I will happily pay shipping.

And my kids are only 4 and 7. This is for my 7 year old, she is asking for it. DH will also play it a LOT!

The thread only has one person so far that's store has started the buy 2 get one. It doesn't start until Sunday as far as I know.

Both of those games are worth $14.99. Neither are great, but definitely worth that price for fans of the characters.

Thanks. I forgot to report back that the TRU I went to didn't know about the sale, so it hasn't hit all over yet.

I think I'll pass on Shrek and Spiderman. My DS will have plenty of games to start him off with. May even hold back one or 2 until his birthday.

For anyone that didn't have luck @ TRU for the Spiderman/Shrek games, I just bought both of them at Best Buy using their price match policy. I didn't get to use the TRU $10 giftcard coupon, but had a $5 BB rewards certificate...so it almost worked out to be the same.

Question on the Mario Galaxy. Everyone keeps raving about it and it is highly rated, but my DS was never a Mario fan. He will play it at friend's houses but has never once asked for it and never even looks at them in Game Spot.

Would it be worth getting anyway? or would I be better of w/ Zack and Wiki. I looked at this and it looked good too. For anyone familiar w/ them and what I just wrote about DS, recommendations please? thx.

Got my three games online this morning. Shipping was only $4.84, well worth not having to go to the store. I got Mario Party 8, Tiger Woods 08 and Madden 08. We are also getting High School Musical Sing It as a gift and with Sports and wii Play, we are more than set.

Thanks to everyone on this board that helped me out so much!

So glad I checked in and just saw this B2G1 sale. Just went online to TRU and got Mario Party 8, Horsez, and Ratatouille. Last night we bought Wii Play at Target and the other week I found Ice Age in the clearance bin at Walmart for $20 so I think we are good to go. I found my Wii over the summer and tucked it away in the attic.

Thanks Dis-ers for all the info!

I got Pokemon, Tiger Woods and Big Brain Academy. DS wanted Star Wars Complete Saga, but it was unavailable. I guess he'll have to wait for his birthday! What is the return policy, if I decide to return BBA to the store if he doesn't like it, to exchange it for Star Wars? No joke, as I'm typing this, we are watching Cartoon Network and we just saw a commercial for Star Wars and the kid is begging me for it! Ugh!

Shipping was $8.24, but that's because I got an extra nunchuck too. I was able to use my $25 gift card we got when we bought Mario, so I consider the nunchuck and most of the shipping was free, thanks to the DIS!

Good luck to everyone else!

Ok technical question. ( well for me )

Ds has green emerald, originally played it on GBA, now on DSlite. It keeps saying something damaged??? ( I should ask DS the wording) I was told to delete it completely and only play it on the DS. Going back and forth between the 2 games is the problem. Can you explain this to me so we can fix it. He wants to only play it on his DS now. Thanks so mcu. I hope this makes sense.

Switching between a gba and a ds should have made no difference in the game(the ds has the gba innards in it) That said 1 of 2 things can happen with games like pokemon where you need to save often and alot.

1) Files become corrupted. Data is written wrong, or an accidential shut off before a finished save (even the power dyeing on the ds or gba can effect this)

2) If he used a cheat device on it such as action replay, or the game shark...it will almost always corrupt the file.(that is why it's use at your own risk!)

unfortunately all he can do is start over.

Yes very sad indeed, didn't even look like the same team I had seen other times during the season. My mom and nephew were at the game, we told them we were not letting them go to any more. :lmao: Then on the way home they listened to the Redskin game, well they lost too, so I blame them for that too. ;)

Now the Buckeyes had better beat TSUN or the season will be very disappointing. After we beat TSUN and win our bowl game, it will be another successful season. But seriously, it was suppose to be a rebuilding year as we lost so many players, and they have done better than expected, but... it was a hard defeat, but I'll take that rather than a defeat this weekend.

And the Big 10 really needs to do something about the way they schedule their games with the season ending this Sat yet other conferences have a few more weeks. With the BCS bowls being played so late, the Big Ten needs to play football in Dec to keep sharp.

A quick hijack of the thread....
actually it benefits the big 10...without us even playign we can easily move up! we have no chance of loseing a game while all the other teams infront of us have 2 opportunities to lose...we have no way to top in the standings ..yet ways to gain.

Again 2 totally different types of game it's like apples to oranges.
I love both games!

Zack and Wiki gets extremely difficault on some of the puzzles....I'm good at solveing puzzles and some of them have taken me upwards of an hour.

Mario is a platform adventure, much more actiopn packed. It's a lot easier to not get frustrated with this style of game.

Only you really know what your child likes the best...so I can't really say other then both games are fantastic!

I went to TRU this morning and got the games...they did not have 2 that i really wanted but i plan to go back later and exchange for another.

I know DH already answered this, but I have to say that I would HIGHLY recommend Mario galaxy over Zack & Wiki for ANY kid! Zack is just too hard and frustrating, whereas Mario is just plain fun. It's not about the old Mario games are being a Mario fan, it's just a great game.

I'm glad you did that. By the time we got to our store they were almost out of anything worth picking up. We did manage to get what we wanted (Fire Emblem, Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles, and Rayman 2!) The best thing was it only cost us $70 for all 3 games! And we got another $10 gift card! (We had a $10 off coupon + the$25 Mario gift card).

Good idea! like I said our store was SUPER picked over and busy.

I think it's been discussed before but I couldn't find it. DS has all the other Lego Star Wars for gamecube. I got him Star Wars Complete Saga for Wii. Is it going to be any different? He doesn't know he's geting a Wii, but he made a comment that he didn't think he needed this SW game because it would be like the others. I'm wondering if I should exchange it for something else? So far I've gotten Mario Galaxy, Wii Play, and Madden '08.

The only difference is you get to swing the wii-mote like a lightsaber. The new game is essentially the other two games together. I would suggest you take it back and get something else. (BTW that's the game I wanted that my store was out of :p)

I would get him Zelda or Paper Mario. Or you could get something like Rayman Raving Rabbids, which is something that he can play for short bursts. All the other games (except Wii Play) you kinda have to play for at least an hour to get anything done.

HTH!

Will I need to buy a special adapter or anything to attach it to my tv or will the same type used for the Gamecube work?
