Official Wii/DS Q/A thread. FAQ in first post! Game reviews in second post!

This is from ign.com

It will be very sad if it is true as I have been a subscriber for more then 10 years!

Hot on the heels of the news last week that Nintendo of America was planning to move a significant chunk of its marketing and sales departments from Seattle to either San Francisco or New York, IGN has learned that the company may be planning to close or restructure its official Nintendo Power magazine. Sources close to the publication tell IGN that mass layoffs are underway and that employees are being told to look for new work by September of this year.

Calls placed to Nintendo of America for comment went unanswered in time for publish.

Founded in 1988, Nintendo Power magazine has over the years faced an emerging threat from game-focused websites, which have the means to provide more timely news, previews, reviews, walkthroughs and cheats. Even so, the publication has maintained a loyal subscriber base.

Without an official confirmation one way or the other, we're still in rumor territory, but what is undeniable at this point is that the magazine is either undergoing a rebirth of some kind or is on its last legs.

IGN will continue to follow the story and update readers with more information as it becomes available.

Holy crap! Our subscription is good for 2 more years! They better give us something! lol

So we beat Bowser at the end of Super Mario World, and now when we go back to play the game it just shows the end screen with the characters posing all happy that they won - and then nothing! We can't play the game anymore! What's up with that? Are the virtual console games supposed to just freeze up when you beat them so that you can never play them ever again? Anyone else have this problem?

Wow, crap! I hadn't heard that. Did it ask you if you want to save your progress? Normally the last save point for a game is BEFORE that last end screen so you can go back and play.

Is there only one save file for the game? I don't have any virtual games, so I'm at a loss.

DH should be around in a few minutes, maybe he has an idea.

My suggestion would be to call Nintendo. They have awesome customer service.

Okay, I've been thinking...does the game save to the Wii or to a memory card? Cuz you may just have to erase the save game on the memory card to play through again.

Never heard of this problem happening...could be a glitch in the game...check the VC online sometimes they have updates for games you downloaded (when they find glitches) having already bought the game it will be free for you to dl.

I will post your question on a all videogame board I go to and see if any of the tech nerds can give me an answer.

TRY THIS!!!

You have to reset your "SNES". Hit the HOME button on your Wiimote and select Reset to reset the software. It should take you to the title screen.

It may have been the same way on the original SNES cart version, where after the ending credits you had to physical push the reset button on the SNES to continue (or power it off and on again). Because the Wii saves your game state, the "SNES" is never "powered off", thus you have to force the reset.

this is the first suggestion from the techies!

Thanks, THK. I will try that.

Our Wii remotes are not shutting off when we turn off the game system. My husband said they were before. Also when we shut the game off the light is still on but a different color. It used to go black.

We are also unsure of how to access the internet and buy games with Wii ppoints. I know- alot to ask but we've been so crazy lately I figured I'd ask here first.

Thanks for any help you can give and forgive if the answer is in the thread somewhere -we are on our way to soccer- I will try to research later.

Thanks for all the time and effort you have put into this we all really appreciate it.:goodvibes

If you have a computer with high speed internet access, the easiest thing is to just buy a Wii Wireless USB adaptor - you plug it into any available USB slot on your computer and it will transmit across the room to your Wii, which already has a wireless internet receiver inside it, so you can access the internet and the Wii store via your Wii. The USB adaptor is around $40, I think. If you have a wireless network in your home then you don't even need that to hook up, you can hook right into your own home network.

Ok lets see....
The internet connection was pretty much answered above so I'll skip that.

Wiimotes....
The wiimote should not shutdown rightaway. infact once the system is off the wiimore still is no...in essence it shuts it self off after a while. Not sure how he means it's not shutting off as hte lights on the bottom should shut off after a minute or 2 of no use.(shutting off the wiimote)

In a cool note.....did you know at anything with they system off you can push the A button on a wiimote and it will light up the 4 lights on the bottom of the wiimote...these indicate battery charge! 4 is full 1is low!

light on the front of the wii
humm...not sure why it was black/not on before, it should be red when the system is turned off this shows there is still power going into the system. It's like standby on a dvd player.(I believe there may be an option in the wii menu to turn the standby off...not positive though)

If the light is Yellow, that means you have it connected to a wireless internet connection and it's looking for any updates it may need. This too can be turned off in the wiimenu 24/7 connection section. (shut off the internet standby here)

If this info doesn't help give me a little more info. What color light? what do you mean by wiimotes not shutting off? I tried to answer the best I could with the info you gave...hope it helps!

TAKE YOUR DS TO WDW!!!

from Bozon on ign.com
May 21, 2007 - At the Pirates of the Caribbean World Premiere at the world-famous Disneyland theme park Disney Interactive (formally Buena Vista Games) announced a partnership with its park counterpart. This new partnership looks to integrate both Disneyland and Disney World with Disney Interactive properties, beginning with DS support for the new Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End game.

The DS download station will work similarly to the Nintendo-supported stations already available worldwide in GameStop and other major retailers and consumer locations, but with a twist. For Pirates, Disney Interactive has set up three treasure marks (in the form of a silver X) around the ride itself. While waiting for the ride, park-goers can search for the hidden spots, pull out their Nintendo DS (with Pirates of the Caribbean cartridge) and download exclusive content for the game itself. The current downloads include exclusive cheats for the game, allowing players infinite life, all characters, and all areas unlocked. The majority of the cheats rest within the multiplayer element of the game, as Disney is looking to encourage gamers to bring their DS to the park, find the hidden treasure, and then make use of the new characters and locales by battling with other park patrons. Graham Hopper, executive vice president and general manager of Disney Interactive Studios had the following to day about the new technology implementation:

"This first-ever collaboration between Disney Interactive Studios and the Disney Parks will enhance the guest's experience by utilizing new technology, which is a key feature of the park's new media focus, and also part or our commitment to quality and creativity in the games we make. This is an example of how we create a broad gaming experience as well as a broad park experience and bring Disney magic in a way nobody else can. We're very excited about the potential for this program, and we'll continue to find ways to incorporate technology to delight Disney fans in ways nobody else can."

After the announcement, we had a chance to go hands-on with the new technology at the ride's entrance. The download took between 30 - 45 seconds due to the high frequency of users at the time (we had about 30 DS units downloading simultaneously), but the process was quick and easy, having the cheats saved to our Pirates game cart within a minute of booting the system. Disney is keeping the locations of the hotspots a secret, and is hoping to add some real-world exploration to both the Pirates of the Caribbean ride, as well as the game. The company also hinted at the possibility of future uses for this technology around the park, but wouldn't further comment.

We'll have more on Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End as the game release, and be sure to keep your eyes peeled for the hotspots next time you venture to the parks. Remember, X marks the spot. The hotspots will be available starting this Tuesday (the game's official release), and will run through Labor Day.

With a few of Nintendo's top titles locked down it's only a matter of time until all 2007 releases are a done deal. Other major points of interest include Battalion Wars 2 with a "September" release, keeping open the possibility of a September 20th release to team with the game's original release date on GameCube in 2005, as well as the dating of two huge EA franchises in Madden NFL '08 and Tiger Woods PGA Tour '08.

We'll have more on all these games, as well as additional release date info as it becomes available. Be sure keep checking back to IGN Wii for all the latest in Nintendo news, media, and reviews.

There are som huge games on that list! The biggest is Metroid Prime III.

That said the HSM singing game on August 14th will be a HUGE seller....since this is the Dis board does anyone think that we may see the HSM follow up movie that same week?

lol As Dh said, I am a children's librarian at a public library. Cudos to you library for making the decision to buy games.

I am actually against most libraries having games as many don't have staff how know anything about them or they only buy useless old games for old consols. And it is extremly costly to have such a collection and I think our older patrons who do most of the voting wouldn't be happy if we had them.

Very few libraries have a collection of games and those that do usually have donated PS1 games. lol

But as we get more and more young librarians I think you'll see more and more video game collections and programs. In the fall I'm having a monthly DS game night where the kids can bring their games and meet and link up with other kids. It's a very successful program!! :teeth:

Ok, I'm done rambling now!

Luckily our library has the latest video games, and they are only $2 for 2 weeks. My kids get to try out different games before buying them.
