Official Wii/DS Q/A thread. FAQ in first post! Game reviews in second post!

My 7 year old son is stuck at one part of the game. He wants to know in Chapter 3, how do you get the star block that you can't see? I haven't played the game, so I don't know anything about it, but that was as specific as he could be. Do you know anything about this? Thanks.

lol Neither of us are to chapter 3 yet. :( DH wouldn't let me play more than 5 hours yesterday! :P

I just started chapter 3, so I'll give you an update in a couple days. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be any walkthroughs available anywhere yet. DH might get that far today, hopefully he'll be able to help.

The best thing I can say is tell him to walk around the area looking for one of the pillars that Mario can read. That's how I figured out how to get the one in Chapter 2 (DH got stuck). Tell him to keep flipping and looking for areas to use his Pixls.

DH said he thinks teens and adults would like this, but I think anyone 7 (6 if a good reader) and up would love it.

spoon, I would recommend Mario over Sonic for sure.

I'm really really enjoying the game, some of the levels are super fun and innovative. I got hooked on the token games you can play. There's one where you shoot at Boos that I'm particuarly fond of. That type of side game makes the game take a lot longer to complete, which is really good for me.

RANDOM NEWS.....
all news pulled from http://www.ign.com

1)The Final Wii Browser should be up in the next day or two. Reports say that released "TODAY" in the UK. If we are luck by this afternoon it will be avaliable to the North American market. Get it between now and June for frr on the wiishop channel after that it will cost you 500wiipoints($5.00)

2)DRAGON QUEST SWORDS
The company (Square Enix) announced today a final release date for Dragon Quest Swords. The Wii-exclusive entry in Japan's biggest RPG series will arrive on 7/12, carrying a price tag of 6,800 yen (about a thousand yen higher than most Wii software, but equally cheaper than the normal asking price for a full entry in the series).

Dragon Quest Swords represents a number of firsts for the series. In addition to being the first next generation Dragon Quest game, it's also the first time the series has featured voices in its home country. The Japanese version of Dragon Quest VIII was silent; voices were added exclusively for the international version.

We should get some additional hands-on time with Dragon Quest Swords before release at the Square Enix Party in Tokyo next month. Be sure and check back here at IGN Wii.

-I would assume this means we in the states will see the game release in November or December.

From the Mail bag...
What game do you think will be better online battalion wars 2 or Super Mario Strikers Charged?

Apples and oranges. It's the safe answer, but it also happens to be true, especially in this case. From the little I've played of the games, I have high hopes for both, honestly. Strikers has that relentlessly fast-moving arcade feeling to it - always a plus for a sports game, in my opinion. Remember: the GameCube title was a fun multiplayer game and it didn't have the added online support or Wii remote functionality. On the other hand, Battalion Wars II goes much deeper and features several different online play types, from a traditional "deathmatch" to a cooperative mode, which rocks. You really shouldn't even be thinking about choosing one or another. I'd start saving now for both.

- YEH!!!! Confirmation of yet another online title!

I'll be back shortly with some special info on the Harry Potter and the Order of the Pheonix for Wii.

Again thanks to the #1 gameing site IGN.Com for supplieing me with info!

The First Hands on with Harry Potter and the Order of the Pheonix!

The whole article with pictures can be seen here...http://wii.ign.com/articles/779/779905p1.html

Highlites for lazy readers!
-For this latest entry in the Harry Potter series, EA UK took a cue from Grand Theft Auto, astonishingly enough. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix actually has a whole lot in common with that beloved franchise. That's not to say that Harry is going to be beating down hookers with a baseball bat or anything. Rather, for this adventure, EA UK opted to implement the sandbox-style mission structure of the latest GTA games. Littered throughout the game are "discovery points," which function as milestone markers. These discovery points can be activated by completing various challenges, and reward the player with spell and level advancements.
-This means you are free to roam Hogwarts and do the main mission as you please!
-The Wii-specific controls for the game seem remarkably well put together. Once Harry's wand is drawn, the Wiimote can be used to directly control the spells you cast. Everything is handled through accelerometers; there is no pointing in the game whatsoever. Any of the game's spells can be cast quickly and easily, merely by a flick of the wrist. Thrust the Wiimote forward, and Harry will propel an object away from himself. Motion upward with both the Wiimote and nunchuk, and Harry will cause an object to levitate in the air.
-SWISH AND FLICK!
-EA made some promises about a Quidditch mini-game and playable versions of Sirius Black and Dumbledore, but we didn't get a chance to scope them out yet. The game comes out sometime in June, prior to the film's release in theaters on July 13. Be sure to check back once we get our hands on a final build of the game.
-OHHHH!!! I GET TOPLAY AS MY FAVORITE SIRIUS!!!

Enjoy!

Chapter 7!! Wow! I'm on Chapter 5 and DH is on 4, so we can't help, but there hopefully there will be a completed Walkthrough on www.gamefaqs.com Nothing is there above level 4 though.
http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/wii/game/933012.html

The only thing I can say is to keep flipping to 3d everywhere and think about what the pixls can do for you. Good luck!

I'm trying to limit how much I play it as I don't want to finish it before Mario Party comes out! lol I'll finish it WAY before then!;)

Maybe you can help my son with the game, since you have gotten so far with the game. He is on 3-4, and only has 1 life left, and doesn't know how to get more lives.

I am not sure what you/he is refering to about lives. You only have 1 life in the game. There are health points in the game, but no lives so to speak.

To get more health he need to go into the menu and over to items...hopefully he as an item he found(or bought form the store in town) that can give him more health. Mushroom shakes, peaches, honey, ect. will all do the trick.

Hope this answers his question.

Hi Again. I've tried to read through some of the thread but time doesn;t always allow.:goodvibes I've heard that a Mario game is good and another not so good. Could you elaborate on that? :confused3 My son loves Mario and if I'm spending that much money I want it to be great! He's 9 with a brother 12 and sister 7. Any info on games would be great.

What about Wii play? We have 2 controllers now and share but we may get more. How is it for the extra 10.00?

Also I haven't eeven tried ot get games off the internet and am not very good at this stuff but would like to check out games. We also have 1 new Wii controller (like the GC ones) not sure why but I know I will need it.:lmao:

Any help appreciated and sorry. I know some of this or:rolleyes1
Thanks all in in the thread.

First Super Paper Mario Impressions!
The story is funny so far, as usual with the PM series. My only complaint is that it took too long, like 15 minutes, to get into the game...lots to text/story set up. Once you get going however, it doesn't slow down.
I agree about the initial story taking way too long! I was really bored, but my sons (ages 7 and 9) seemed to enjoy it. DS7 loves this game and was on level 3 within a few hours.

We like Wii Play because it's easy and friends who come over can easily play along. The games are very simple and easy to understand, like Wii Sports. As far as needing another remote goes, I'm disappointed that they haven't come out with more games for 4 players (Wii Play is only 2 players).

My son loves Zelda. It's a 1 player game, but he has really enjoyed getting through the levels.

Initially we bought quite a few games, but now we've decided to rent because so many of the games quickly lost the boys' attention. Wario and Rayman are fun and would be good rentals.

Not sure what you mean here as there is only one mario game out on the Wii..that would be Super Paper Mario (check the last few pages for info on that game).
-If you are refering to mario on the virtual console, None of them are bad games by anymeans.
-IF you talking about Wario ware..it too is a great game form the info we have gotten from fellow dissers.

I've never really seen a bad mario game.

If you are definately looking at getting a third wiimote then by all means spend the extra $10.00 and get Wiiplay! It's not a great set of mini games by itself, but seeing as your only spending $10.00 for the game it's well worth it!

I am assumeing your talking about the classic controller...this can be used to play any game off the virtual console. There are some really good games on there and worth a look espically if 1) you haven't played old nintendo games
2) your a huge old nintendo game fan, or 3) You find you or your kids are loveing a certain game like a Mario or Zelda....it's a great way to play their past adventures.

Hope this answered a few of the questions.

Don't you worry Many multiplayer games are a comming..the next big one is Mario Party 8 at the end of May!

Love Zelda..have loved it for a long time.

Definatley good to rent as they are very short...that said Wario is one of those multiplayer games that anyoen can play, espically once you unlock the mini games for all play mode.

As for Rayman I can't get enough of shooting crazy bunnies with plungers!

If you have kids and you rent around 3 games a month then you should get GAMEFLY... it's like netflix/blockbuster but for games!
I'll post a link later after work.

Yes, Mario Party will be for up to 4 players, so Wii Play is probably a great idea for you.

The official date right now is May 29. (Sorry!)

Hi again.

Thanks for all the help....
quick question. Can you play other players over the internet.

Also can you get your mail and / or surf through the Wii?

Thanks

You guys think the will ever do something awesomly cool like Guitar Hero for the Wii? Also, do you all think if/when they make a new Kingdom Hearts game that they will have it out on the Wii too?

There are no games that play over the internet yet, but Pokemon (coming out this summer, I think) will and many many games after that will as well.

Yes, if you download the Wii Opera browser, you can surf the net and get your email. It's much impoved over the Beta version, but I still think it's a bit of a pain to do that kind of thing. The first post FAQ has details about the Browser.

Funny you should ask, YES there is a Wii version of Guitar Hero coming out...here's the newest info about it: http://wii.ign.com/articles/780/780807p1.html It's scheduled for release this fall!

Kingdom Hearts...I don't think any info on ANY home console version of KH has been announced. If it is, I wouldn't be surprised if we got a Wii version. SquareEnix is one of the developers that is making a ton of Wii games. I'll get back to you with more info if I find it.

To add to what the wifey said....
I think I am understanding you different then she is. You can play some FLASH Games over the internet in your wii opera browser go to www.wiicade.com it is a site devoted to flashgames made to play with your wiimote on the wii.

As for "real" games on the net nothign yet..Pokemon in June is first followed by Mario Strikers Soccer. There are more to come after that but it's been "mum's the word" Nintendo unlike most other companies like to keep things quiet until they are ready to show it off.

You guys think the will ever do something awesomly cool like Guitar Hero for the Wii? Also, do you all think if/when they make a new Kingdom Hearts game that they will have it out on the Wii too?

The Guitar Hero thing was answered perfectly...so no need to go to that!
As for KH...The series at this point is on hiatius. No other follow ups are planned. That said My guess is that a KH game would more then likely be not the Wii but the DS! Square Enix's business plan is this...our most popular games will be made for the systems with the biggest userbase that way we can sell mroe games. This is seen by the fact that all the FF remakes and the Next Chapter in the Dragon Warrior/Quest series is a DS exclusive leaveing sony behind.

The Ds' numbers are insane when compared to any of the home systems. Sony is loseing SE support by the boatload (only announced game being FFXIII). That would leave SE 2 choices on the home front...X360 or Wii....Sales wise the Wii is only 3.5 million systems behind world wide and is about 1.5 million ahead in japan! This bodes well for that if Se decideds to do anothe KH game that it would probably be on Wii if it's not a handheld game!

All that said For me to play it they will really have to fix the camera system and make it a much better story then 2 way!

There also was/is a rumor of Disney Interactive (their new videogame department) wanting to buy this liscense from SE and make thier own games...so we'll see.

So where can one buy a Wii these days? I've not seen any locally when we look and when I check Amazon all I see are outside sellers who want over $400 for them! Any advice? DW and I have decided to take the Wii plunge! :thumbsup2
