Official Wii/DS Q/A thread. FAQ in first post! Game reviews in second post!

Thanks hehe, but I already got that one. The one I need to get now is in a room with NOTHING in it but a couple of dressers..2 little boxes , the big box that the bug is under , and a bed.

Also...at the VERY end there is one more bug I need...but I can't find where it is...  It's at the part after he learns about the Howling stone, and Midna has helped him up onto the cliff with the rocks that fall down .
When DS was playing Zelda somebody posted a fabulous walkthrough which he used whenever he got stuck. Here's the link: http://www.gamespot.com/features/6162248/index.html Hopefully it'll help you find your bug!

Thanks for the advice. :) I figured it out the second after I posted the question. For some reason, the 17th time must have been the charm because I went back and done EXACTLY the same thing I was doing previously by pushing the box and this time it worked. heh

I'm to the level after the Sumo wrestling tutorial now.:thumbsup2

BTW I also LOVE mycheats.com walk throughs, I couldn't get to where I am now without watching the walk through videos on that site. :rotfl:

DO NOT BUY A PSP!!! It is an utter piece of garbage. That's abotu as bluntly as I can put it. Load times are horrible. (I played tigger woods on it, I kid you not i hade to wait 2 minutes for a hole to load!), The battery life is bad 2-3 hours tops. And the fact that most of the games are simply ports(copies) of ps2 games. IF he really needs the sports games that bad a used ps2 will be cheaper then the psp.

Really? I'm kinda surprised. I was kinda thinking that being 11 and soon a teenager that he'd not like the DS in a few years and that the PSP also had other things it could do and it would be better in the longer run? :confused3

We did connect to wii shop last night, but I didn't see the wii browser anywhere. Where is it? Is downloading that something we should do if we can? Just browsed thru the games but the boys' didn't see anythng they wanted right away.

I did get my son a new game yesterday, well new used game... I picked up backyard football for GC and he's satisfied for now. He still wants to play NCAA basketball though! Maybe I can get it for the pc, will have to research that. Our old pc's prob can't play any new games well and the new one has Vista so it'll have to be compatible with that.

Is there a game that has track or running on it on the Wii? My kids said they saw this I think on a commercial for the Wii but we haven't come across it on the sports disc, is it on that somewhere? Or what game has that if there is one?

Re Tiger Woods Golf, my boys have never really been into golf video games, is this something other 9 and almost 11 (who thinks he's an adult) yr olds like? Maybe we should get that one? They love to play mini golf but have never played any golf on video games, however something we have on the wii has golf, is it the sports disc or the wii play?

In the wiishop channel you need to go to WII Wares... in there you can download for free the wii browser and the everybody votes channel.

Another great site to go through for walkthroughs is gamefaqs.com

Yeah I have had friends that have had it and traded it in....some of the reasons...almost all the games are remakes of game on the ps2. It's not worth it to buy the umd movies on. you pay more for the movie then you do the dvd and your lucky to have any battery left once your done watching it.
You need memory cards to save(sony duo memory) and your looking at $50 for the cheapest., It's too bluky to carry around as a mp3 player. To to give you some Idea of why people don't like it. It is true there are more"mature" games on it, by in large many older kids ever seem to be going with the ds Thus the reason why it has been nearly impossible to find it. Young old, teen, and adult are all likeing stuff on the ds.

Like I mentioned before if he has to play sports games get a used PS2..you'll get the most bang for your buck.

The comercial they have seen is for WARIO WARE...one of the quick liek 10 sec mini games is a track game...It's comming though in MARio and Sonic at the Olympics.

As for GOLF....Have the played Wii Sports Golf? tiger is like that but more in depth with real pga players/courses, a career mode, ect.

Mario & Sonic At The Olympic Games is being developed in house by Sega, and is scheduled for release for the upcoming holiday season for both the Wii and the DS. It will feature Mario and Sonic playing track, swimming, table tennis and many more. and is a tie-in to the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing

I'm a librarian and I've been having DS game nights, where the kids can come and bring their games to the library (we have WiFi) and play against each other or trade fruit (animal Crossing) or get new puppies (Nintendogs). I get a great group of about 50 kids ages 5-17 (not including me and DH ;)).

I've only had one kid ask about bringing his PSP. I told him to go for it, but no one else has brought one, I even included it in the program advertising.

Very few people under the age of 18 have PSPs and those that do, probably wish they wouldn't have wasted the money. SO far the vast majority of games are just ports for other systems, nothing original.

For an 11 year old, i would consider buying a Xbox in the next couple of years, but probably not right away. Get him a DS so he and his brother can play against each other.

Yes, the PSP has multi-functions, but that is the problem. It is mediocure in everything it does and doesn't do anything really well. And how many of the functions will your child actually use? Probably not many for many years and byt the time he's ready, the PSP's tech will be so far behind, he won't want to use it.

If they boys aren't into golf, I wouldn't buy Tiger (not Tigger! lol) Woods. The reviewers say it's only for hard core golf gamers, you should be satisfied with the golf on Wii Sports.

I just typed my reply and then lost it.  Now I'm too upset to remember what I typed.

Anyways...Thanks for the replies regarding the PSP.

Horned King - I must've skimmed reading your post about being Ohio State fans. I'm sure my son is big into the tournament because of them and filling out his brackets and stuff but he does this for all the sports, euro soccer, MLS, NFL, NBA and would really like to be able to do it for NCAA football and basketball. If Ohio State wins (:cheer2: pixiedust: :cheer2: ) he will only want this more right now.

I do think that he and his brother would enjoy playing nintendogs with each other and friends and that he'd like Diddy Kong Racing too so the DS is prob the best way to go at this point. I enjoy playing the mini games on Super Mario Bros.

Think we'll pass on the Tiger Woods for now, will add SSX Blur to our want list, and also he read about High School Musical and said he wanted that one.

Will start saving for something that'll have NCAA games like the XBOX360 or PS3 for the future. You think XBOX is better than PS?

Any rumor that the DS will ever connect to the Wii?

Ok I remembered what I wrote. I was surfing and found that Sony may release a new PSP, either a lite version or hard drive and flash version, or new PSP2. Alot of speculation and rumors and no facts from Sony. So we're prob late on this too as we are for the PS2.

My only warning With SSX is that it takes a couple of hours to fully understand the play control! I LOVE it though.

I too can't wait to see more about HSM...Weirdly I am obsessed with the movie and soundtrack. I watch it everytime it's on the Disney channel (even though I own the dvd). I can't wait to sing along with a mic in one hand and a wiimote in the other...WE'RE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER!...

Onlly thing I can tell you is this...the 360 is selling FAR better then the PS3.

That said who knows what it will be like come next winter. They both will have their fair share of sport games so you'll be fine with either. As for me I would lean torward the 360...but I'm not ruleing out getting a ps3 at some point. WAIT and see which system has the games he wants when it comes time to buy it.

Any rumor that the DS will ever connect to the Wii?

Absolutely!!! NO RUMOR FACT!!! In June when Pokemon Battle Revolution releases for the Wii you will be able to use your ds Pokemon Daimond/Pearl game to link up with the Wiii and use your Pokemon from that to battle with. B est part is the DS WILL be the controler if you choose to do that!

Other games that have wii and ds versions are set to use this feature also, like My Sims.(and more I can't remember)

The one RUMOR at this point is that soon Nintendo will offer free DS demo's to download and try! They would dissapear as soon as you shut off the ds, but it sounds like a great thing! Try before you buy!

Yep seen those rumors too....I'm not betting on anything right now however. Sony has it's hands full with the ps3 mess (not selling well) and the fact that, as a company, they are hemrageing(sp?)(bleeding alot- I can spell that!) money does not bode well for them right now.

I also would find it hard to believe that they would make a new handheld so soon....but the Big N has done it before so it's possible!

Man this thread is hopping lately!

Right now, I think the Xbox is WAY better than the PS3, because it has a huge headstart. There are so many more games. The other problem is that both systems focus on Mature games that you won't want him playing for a few more years anyway. Since you won't be buying any system anytime soon, I say don't worry about it!
Start saving and when the time comes, make a decision based on what you need then! Especially if Blu-ray is really what the world is going to with DVD players (though I doubt it). You might end up picking based on Blu-ray vs HD DVD in a few years (or digital downloads could blow them both out of the water).

My point is, get him excited about the system he has. Maybe pick up a really cheap used PS2 somewhere so he can get his OSU fix, but if that is the ONLY reason he wants something new, I don't think it's worth it.

In the next few months there are so many games coming out that both boys should be satisfied with and that should help big time!

Yes, the DS will connect to the Wii in the future, probably using WiFi. i know there is a specific rumor for which game (maybe pokemon) :confused3 I'll let DH tell you more about that. But yes, they will use the DS with the Wii.

I hadn't heard about a new PSP, but I'm not surprised. I really think a PSP in any form would be basically a paperweight to him. It just not easy to play a game like he wants on a system like that (which is why there's nothing like that on the DS).

Boy I am long winded!!

As usual I was one step ahead of you! Though you were right I did know more about the ds connectivity!

Dude, I'd come!!! I've no friends for my nintendogs. I don't have animal crossing yet, I'm not sure if I want to make that sort of time investment. :goodvibes

Well, I work at the Willoughby Library (east side). Are you close enough to come? I have a few adults coming already! PM and I'll give you the details!!

I didn't realise you were in the NE Ohio area too! Maybe we can at least meet up and share! :teeth:

:confused3 Forgive me for not knowing this or understanding this, but if we own two DS lites (well not technically yet, one's a bday present) do we need 2 games so they can play together?

I know how the nintendogs works because they've already played w/a friend. But if we get Diddy Kong racing, I see you can connect and play against people on line but can both boys play this with only one cartridge?

Are there games you need 2 copies of and others you can play with one?:confused3

I promise to get back to Wii stuff after I sort thru this DS stuff.

No worries! Whatever we can help with, doesn't matter which system (except the PS3 since we don't have it or know anyone who does).

Yes, you are right, some you have to have 2 and some, you can just have one. All the games have what they need to hook up on the back of the box. For example Mario cart has two things in teh upper right corner. One says "wireless DS single-card download play (2-8 players)" and the other says "Wireless DS Multi-card play (2-8).

Each game is different, but generally in order to really play together you usually need two games. But for Diddy or Mario cart than can race each other with only one game, just not to the same level as they can with two games. You just have to be in a WiFi hotspot, which your home is, if you have wireless. You can link up to 8 systems to race at once using one game thru WiFi. It's really fun!

I am considering getting each of my kids a Wii game. DS is almost 4, so I had decided on Excite Trucks for him.

I'm trying to decide between Zelda, WarioWare and Rayman for my DD (8).

Any suggestions?

my vote would be for wario smooth moves - everyone can play, its simple, fun and the kids can be successfull at it,,,,

I agree, Wario Ware is the best for that age of the three. And Rayman's a close second, but Wario's better for the whole fam.

And yes a bunch of stores got Wiis in today, but they're probably mostly gone by now. Hope you found one!
