Yes, we are using the gamecube controllers with the virtual console games that we downloaded.

Yes they will work for SOME of them. Right now I think all of them do, but as they add more, look for the games to need wii-motes and possibly the classic controller.

Really?! Sorry! I have two controllers, so I didn't even realize this.
Thanks!

You probably only need more than one Wii-mote when playing games that more than one person play AT THE SAME TIME.

Don't you need two for Tennis when you play against each other? It would be hard to pass the controller.

Oops. I play solo.

I just found out that my CC will have about 130 in stock tomorrow.

I didn't read the whole thread so don't know if this has been addressed yet. Can someone please tell me where/how to down load games.

Once I down load them, how do they get from the PC to the console?
(Don't laugh)

Are there any discounts out there on the games? A few weeks ago TRU was taking off $15.00 if you purchased 3 games.

You download them through the Wii using built-in wi-fi to connect with the WiiConnect24 service. You will need a wireless router now. Sometime in January, Nintendo will be releasing an usb to ethernet LAN adapter if you have a wired network.

I'm using Google checkout for discounts now. They have $10 off $30 and $20 off $50 at some of the bigger internet sites.

I just got home from Toys R Us and didn't get the Wii. I got there 20 minutes before opening and they had given out only 25 tickets.

I will not stand out in the cold for longer than that. I will check the internet and call stores but that's about as far as I'll go to try for one of these things. I always made fun of those parents camping out for toys for their kids...I will not become one!! :rolleyes1

So, with that in mind, should I put the Wii out of my plans? In your opinion, will I get one by Christmas if I'm not willing to stand in the cold for more than 20 minutes?

I was able to get one today at CC in downtown Brooklyn. There was a lady in front of me who came from Long Island to purchase one. She said the store near her only had 21 come in. The store here had 132.

I got in line about 10 minutes before the store opened and was #97.

Our line forms inside the shopping center.

Can you play the Wii games the "normal" way??? I mean not swinging the remote around, etc. - just using the controller in a normal way?? The reason I ask is that when we drive down to Florida to visit the inlaws for Christmas, we usually hook up our Playstation 2 to the built in DVD player in the van and the girls play PS2 all the way to Florida (keeps them relatively quiet - ok, at least not fighting). This year they may want to hook up the Wii, but I don't want them whipping around a wiimote while I am driving!!!!

Around us the past two weeks, they have been handing out vouchers and letting people leave and come back for store opening (or at least by 12 noon). This was at Best Buy last week (where I didn't get one) and at Circuit City this week (where I DID get one). I just walked up to the door, the guy handed me a ticket and I walked back to my car and went home until opening. See what the stores around you are doing.

Yes, you can play by using wrist movements. Playing with full range movements just immerses you into the game.

I do not think that it would be that easy to set up and play on a small portable screen while moving in a vehicle. Have you thought about a Nintendo DS for travel.

I was lucky enough to get one this morning at TRU (thanks to this site for the heads up). I was #17 and they had 18. My question is do I need any special adapter to hook up to tv. My DS's TV was new last year.

TIA

Yeah. My DD11 has a Nintendo DS. But we have hooked up the Playstation the past 2 years for our Florida trip and it works just fine. But then, they aren't flinging Wii Motes around. We might still hook up the PS2 since I expect we will only have 2 Wii games. But we may still bring the Wii with us to play in florida at Grandmas.

I got to my local Target at 6:30am. I was lucky #13 in line. It was 40 degrees here, which is cold for West Covina, California. By 7:30, there were about 50 people in line, with 42 wii's in stock. There were a few guys in the back who tried to jump the line, but Target was on top of things. They actually escorted us to Electronics to make sure that no one tried to line jump.

I have been at a conference for work all day, so haven't played the game yet. I only got one game, Monkey Ball. I hope it's fun. :thumbsup2

My friend and I are trying to get one for our kids. She waited at ToysRus sunday morning. She was number 20 and they had only 19!! What a sick feeling.

Dollars to donuts the kids that were lucky enough to get one that were in front of her in the line already had a few units and were just re-selling these. How awfull! Don't you just hate that.

What I hate is that the companies making these hot items know they will be desired and only make a few. That's the crime.

Also, the Toys R Us near us suggested going back before 12 and checking if someone didn't pick up their Wii with their voucher, and then it could be sold. There is only a slim chance of this happening.

Exactly! I can't stand being held hostage by such arrogance. For crying out loud Nintendo, make enough to meet demand. I bet if they charged a little bit more the increased profit would offset the risk of a saturated market and kill their excuse to limit supply. Or, am I missing something here? :confused3

For the life of me I can't see how the Wii's marketing and distribution methods work in Nintendo's favor. The whole point of marketing is to make your product EASY to buy.

This thread is wonderful. We got one for our three gamers and I had so many questions. Our 10 yo is an excellent gamer and will play a game until he beats it. What games will be good. for him and what will we need extra to play them. Is there a thread that discusses the various games?
