I was looking at some of the compression socks over the weekend. Does anyone have a preference for which brand is better? Also, which is better for recovery, socks of calf sleeves?

Just got done with a quick 30 min run!!! Felt great!!! I am worried that my Newton's might be a 1/2 size too big.

I love my Zensahs! I'm picky about my socks, so if I wear them when I run, I can still wear my favorite socks. I almost always wear them after a run. I've had some shin issues and I find they do help to keep the swelling down. If I run at night I even wear them to bed and my legs feel great the next morning.

I am using the Galloway Beginner Marathon Training Program for the full in January. Before I registered for the full, I had registered for a half on November 11th. This weekend there is a 20 mile long run for the full training. How should I handle that? Should I do 7 miles on Saturday and then the half on Sunday? Thoughts?

I would just run the half and be done..... I would step the average pace up maybe 30-45 seconds a mile for the half if you want a challenge, otherwise, run the 13 as a training run.

Have fun and do not worry about 'making up' the miles

CEP is a fantastic brand for compression socks.

CEP is the grandfather compression sock. I run and recover in this brand. I would feel comfortable in most any name brand at the running store; including 2XU or SLS3. Same goes with a calf sleeve. With regard to better, I am not sure that there have been any studies comparing or contrasting the benefits of one over the other. The only thing I would add is that if your feet swell, the socks may be a better choice.

Hope this helps

I find that my Newts are a always a little wide and have to force a fit with lacing. Where are they feeling large? there are a few tracks that can be used to help out.

Just registered for the Princess Half Marathon tonight! I am so excited to be doing two Disney races this year. Next year I am hoping to either do Goofy or C2C. It's really all about the bling. :rotfl:

I feel like my feel are slideing back and forth and the lugs might be right on my arch instead of the ball of my foot. I have other shoes that are a 1/2 size smaller but when I where them in the heat the feel too small. I might just need to remember to where thicker socks with my Newtons.

Have you ever have a problem with the bottom of you foot going numb from them. It was just my right foot. I think with lugs might have been pressing on a nerve. I LOVE the Newton don't get me wrong. But since I am training for my first full marathon I want to be safe.

Yikes, they would be more than a tad large if the lugs were in the arch. There are a few lacing techniques that can tighten up the forefoot area, especially if the sliding is side to side. I use Yankz shoe laces in my newtons. These are elastic and come from the Tri world where tieing a shoe is a time waster. They take a little getting used to and adjustment, but once you get them honed in, you never have to mess with the strings again.

I have never had a numbness issue with them, but have a toe issue. Seems like I am pushing the middle toe out and into my fourth toe on the left foot. It seems to be a lug pressure point. The issue is bad enough that I blister the 4th toe consistently - unless I wear Injini toe socks on runs lasting more than 90 minutes or so.

I would give them a little time to see if you adjust to the design. One of the largest benefits I have found from the Newtons is that the dead shoe mileage limit jumped about 200 miles for me. I am up to 550-600 miles before retiring them. However, if you get 3-4 weeks out from now, I would head to a different shoe.

Heads up to those looking for WDW rooms! Looks like Disney has finally changed its reservation system and it now says "Walt Disney World® Resort reservations may be booked online up to 499 days in advance."

Rooms are available over marathon weekend--values are around $85-125/nt depending on location and day of week.

I booked a few months ago at AKL... now I'm on the look out for discounts that might make it even cheaper.

Lucky you!! I loved, loved, loved the Princess last year. I wish I could run again, but my budget won't allow for 2 Disney runs, especially when we will be back to WDW in August of 2013 as a family. :)

$430 for the weekend and $360 for the weekdays is a bit much for the Boardwalk for marathon weekend. They will have discounts out later this year. Last year I think we got Beach Club for $320 or so on the weekend.

This year we are at Boardwalk Villas. Thank goodness for DVC.

Rooms at the Dolphin for the weekend start at $229 for a basic room to $279 for a room with a balcony.

I've got a pair from CWX and from 2XU. I find the CWX have stronger compression going up my calf and the 2XU have stronger compression around my foot and ankle. That said, I love them both and would recommend either.

I also own a pair of Zensa calf sleeves which I find really useful for wearing during a run but not nearly as effective as my compression socks for wearing after my ice bath.

We are at BWV, too, on rented points. Never did that before. So far the process has been smooth and easy.
