well I put my running on hold this week and will start my marathon training this weekend.

I put it on hold because we had a really bad storm come through the Chicago land area and our house didn't have power for 5 days and the durning those days the temps were in the 100's everyday so I said forget it. I was so excited to the lights come back on.

So now I will pick back up and start running again not that we have power again and can come back to a nice cold house again.

I am thinking about adding a entry in my blog with pics of all the down trees.

Oh it was disgusting tonight. This was only day 3 of my training, and I would've preferred to skip it. :) 98 degrees and tomorrows trash day, so I was running around stinky trash bins. GAG!!

So I'm trying to do the Galloway method but have a question about the intervals. I'm a decent walker but pretty new runner, so I've set my intervals at 1 minute run/1:30 walk. I saw on the 1/2 marathon training page, he talks about doing like 10 seconds/50 seconds. So is the key to just do 1 minute intervals, or is what I'm doing ok? Not hard enough? Too hard? Help!! I'm so confused. :)

I would not get hung up on intervals.... If comfortable, stick with where you are at and work to lower the walk to a minute. I find that runners have an easier time keeping track of intervals when they are in even minute increments. As you gain running fitness, you may want to play with extending the run while keeping the walk interval constant.

Ran the Peachtree (10K) on the 4th and I was 3 minutes slower than last year :sad2:. Trying to not let it get me down. I think it was because I ran two half marathons over the winter and that forced me to slow my pace down quite a bit, so I never got back to running the pace I was doing last year.
The other thing is that I am really sore from the race for some reason. I had been running 6 miles, on hills, to train for it, and had not had any soreness during training, but then I run the race and now my quads are killing me! I went ahead and invested in "the stick" and have been using that.
I am glad they didn't reveal the Mickey medal yet - I really want to be surprised and see it for the first time after I cross that finish line! :thumbsup2

Good morning!

I signed up for my local Running Room's Half Marathon group and started with them last night. It was just a 3k at race pace, plus warm up and cool down intervals. It was stinking hot and humid and I was glad to be done. We are running 5 days a week and that is new for me, but some of the distances are pretty short. I am aiming for a HM in Toronto in October (with TOTTM 2 weeks prior), and then plan to just keep going until our race weekend in January, likely ramping down a little bit in distance, then building back up, as was suggested to me.

I am not a speedy runner, training to run the half in about 2:15-2:20. I have no idea what I will do the Full in - just planning to finish upright and uninjured.

Slogging it out in the heat, humidity and ever-present sun in Toronto,
Carolynn

First week of officially training and I am not feeling great:crazy2:. The heat has been pretty brutal, but my legs are more of an issue. My calves are so tight that it takes upwards of 3 miles of slow running and stopping to stretch to get them loose enough that I am not suffering anymore:sad2:. Hoping that I am just dehydrated and that by drinking tons more water I can feel better for my weekend runs.
Looking forward to next week so I can look at booking a room online and then think about ADR's for that weekend. Torn between going to my old standby of Germany for dinner (for the awesome beer, of course) or trying something different.

Wow. Training for a 2:15-2:20 half is pretty good. I did my first 1/2 at the Princess this year and finished in 3:20. I never ran a paid race before that (not even a 5k) so I was happy but I'm determined to finish my next 1/2 (Diva in October) in under 2:30. I've been running my 10K's at 1:15 and trying to get faster so I'm hoping I reach my goal.

Running in the heat sucks. Really. Throw in some hills and I want to call it quits. Here's to the heat wave ending soon.

And took a shower afterward to get the bugs out of my hair.

Though I couldn't get out the ones I had swallowed while running.

:scared:

I'd go to Germany just for the beer. That place is awesome! LOL

What can you tell be about the race retreat. I am so much (several hours probably) slower than my husband. Should we do it?

Invest in a foam roller and roll you calves. Nothing good will come from tight calves.

It's a pampering thing and all about what you can budget. If the weather is off, then the tent is worth its price in gold. Otherwise, it offers some luxuries such as pre and post race food and drink, carpeted ground, AC, it's own port potties and an early release to the corrals. I think in your case the added luxury of having a place for DH to roost is a nice feature... that is unless you are staying at an Epcot resort. Then it would be better for him to walk back through Epcot to the resort, clean and then cheer you on near the I-Gate.

Sara Congrats on doing your first marathon at WDW. That was my first, too.

I got a discount on tickets last year after I saw a fellow WISHer post a code. That was the first time I had ever seen anything for marathon weekend. (And I don't know if it was a marathon weekend-specific code or just one that WWoS offers for sports participants) So keep an eye out later in the year.

And last year, they had a general public room-only discount that was offered that I was able to book for race weekend.

Maura

Thank you for the heads up. I appreciate it!

Thank you for your advice!! I will probally do it. We are at the all-star resorts so I hope he likes it.

Hi all - quick question.

Thinking of getting the Pasta in the Park tix - partly for the meal, and partly to spend some time in a park. We are not planning to do much else in the parks. *Officially* it says you can get in at 6:30pm with a PitP ticket - but does anyone know if it works like the other ticketed events where you can get in as early as 4pm *unofficially*? I imagine we will leave the park by about 930 for early bedtime. I can't really fall asleep sooner than about 10pm anyhow.

I think I am going to treat my sister who is running the half with me to the Retreat Package. I think I will sign up for both days as I am doing the Goofy. My logic is this: great perks, and since we have to check out on Sunday at 11am (right around the time I would be finishing or near to it), it gives us a good place to hang around after the race, since we won't have a room anymore, and gives my sister a good place to wait for me after she gets up and checks us out and makes it over to the race. Also, we can eat there afterwards (and me before, her during her wait for me). To give my sister the second day I would sign her up for the Platinum chEAR package. Does that make sense? It would be her Xmas present, and DH says my package will be my Xmas present.

We will otherwise not be going into the parks, and trying to keep the meal costs down.

Bought our airfare today! Got an amazing price on JetBlue: $210 roundtrip from Buffalo! Booked it without confirming with her as I couldn't get her on the phone, but it all worked out and she was thrilled with the price. My sister is on a budget and I promised her that the weekend wouldn't cost her more than $500. I booked us at BLT. Me however, I am fortunate to have a bit bigger budget and can do a little splurging on my favourite run partner!

That's an awesome airfare price!!!!!! I hoping for $150 r/t from JFK.

I have attended the Pasta in the Park 2 of 3 years offered. Previous to this year it was a Thursday only event which makes the food choices a little less critical. I enjoyed the food, but found that it was not something I would really want the day before a race. (Just my opinion) The posted time is a hard time. You will not be allowed in early with these tix. More than likely, I will be a 2 of 4 attender after 2013. Also, Epcot closes @ 9 pm, so staying late is not really an option here.

Signed up for my 2nd WDW Marathon. I did it in 2011 and ran the Marathon Relay with a partner last year.

After procrastinating, I registered for the Marathon with about 20 minutes left before the price went up. I really wanted to do the 20th anniversary run.

I've been running and started the Galloway training plan this week (though I'm wavering between the 'finish' plan and the 'time improvement' plan). I ran it in 5:15 'official' time in '11 (but I stopped for lots of pictures ha-my watch time was 4:49). I would like to run it in 4:30 this year and think I can, I did the relay last year in 2:09.

We'll be welcoming our 3rd child end of November, so DW will probably be staying in the room with the kids while I go to the start. We're staying at BLT so they can just come downstairs and walk out to the road to see me, then go back upstairs and hang out for a while.

Looking forward to it. I HAVE to lose about 15 pounds pretty quickly so I can be ready for longer runs. Haven't run more than 6 miles since January so I am way out of shape, but excited!

Ha! Second (or third I guess) that! Did just a 4 mile hill workout yesterday and thought I was going to die. I know it's only 93 or 94 here, but still. Will be training in Orlando (not on WDW property this time) next week while on vacation, and it's even hotter there. Not looking forward to it, but I keep telling myself it will be worth it to suffer now, then get a boost when the weather cools off.

BLT is my favorite!
Last year was the first time staying on the monorail for race weekend. Will be at BLT too Friday-Tuesday. I highly recommend it, as it was so convenient to hop on there and have no traffic or problems getting to the start.

You know you want to run :)

More than you know!! I want to do this soooo bad.

You can do it Buffy! The half is a great distance to start at. And Disney races keep ypir mind off the running with all the great entertainment along the way. The crowds cheering are the best!

On another note, do you still scrap book? I haven't done anything in such a long time, its pathetic. I really need to get back into it. At the very least I should scrap some of my races.

I was really happy with my time at the Everest Challenge last year. While there were parts that dragged on, I really can't believe it was over as fast as it was, but there was a lot less entertainment than I thought there would be.

I do still scrap, not as often as I'd like but yeah, I try. I'm toying with switching to digital, just because I have no more room for albums! I'm not a fan of digital but I can do it while in the RV and I don't need an entire room full of stuff.
I downloaded my pics from the Everest race (Not cheap, btw!!!) so I hope to have an on going album for my races.
I have been biten by the running bug! LOL I haven't run in about 4 days, hurt my self boxing, and I'm dying to get back out there.

You won't be alone! Mandy is doing half. I'm doing full (and need chEARing!!) and I think Carrie is doing the full. We all get together at beaches and cream to celebrate at some point! We will expect to see u there with us!

Agh, I need a FB page just to keep up with my ScrapHappy girls!!!!
OK, wether DH goes or not, I have to be there.
He's going to talk to the ortho and our Chiro again and see if he can walk it. He's walk is as fast as my run, and if I do intervals even if I pass him running, he will catch up when I walk.
If not, I'll just go alone and meet up with my million peeps when I get there!
