That would be awesome Colleen!

I really want to do it. This is a personal goal for me that I set when I started my WISH journey. I want to run a big race in my 40th year. So I'm going to keep training and watch the numbers (59% full) for the 1/2 right now. That's really all I can do for now.

You won't be alone! Mandy is doing half. I'm doing full (and need chEARing!!) and I think Carrie is doing the full. We all get together at beaches and cream to celebrate at some point! We will expect to see u there with us!

Hi all,
I've been lurking here for a couple months and you guys have been really inspiring! My boyfriend and I are registered for the marathon and it's our very first. (In fact, I've never done a race longer than 8k so I may have lost my mind, but go big or go home, right?)

I know Disney makes you maintain a 16 min/mi, but we'd like to stop for as many character photos as possible along the course. From reading your posts it seems some of the lines can be a bit time consuming, so what pace do you think would be required to finish the course in time?

Since this is our first marathon, my goal is really just to get across the finish line in one piece, but it'd be good to know what might be possible!

HELLO FELLOW RUNNERS!!! :wave2:

I just finished my first half marathon in May. After that amazing runner's high I decided that I wanted to do a full marathon. I am a former CM and living in New England but expressed to my DH that I wanted my first marathon to be the WDW Marathon....For mother's day this year, a week after my half marathon completion he gave me a confirmed registration for the 2013 Disney Full and said we were going WITHOUT our kids for the trip. I'm SO excited....so excited that I gave him a registration for father's day! We will be completing our first marathons together and can not think of a better place! (We honeymooned there too!) :cool1:

Few things;

Anyone wanna virtually train together? :thumbsup2: Email me! (DH is actually no fun to train with he makes everything a competition) lol

Also, I know there are no discount hotels on property for runners but does anyone know if we get a discount ticket or anything? That would be a great swag prize for finishing! (a discount at least!!!!)

Thanks for the help!

My hubs and I are running this as our first too! My longest distance is a half marathon, his is 5 miles. WE ARE IN THIS TOGETHER! lol Where are you guys coming from? We are in MA

I did my 30min training run today (i'm following the Galloway plan) and i found it really hard :( I've had time off from running since i did a 10k run in May and ended up with an injury but i've been given the all clear to run again :) I set my timer up to run 30sec and walk 1min and it felt like torture, before my break i was running easily for 5 mins with out stopping and yet now i can't manage 30secs. Will it get easier?

I did most of my training for my 1st half marathon on a treadmill. I watched tv, listened to music, and just did anything I could to keep going. My longest treadmill run has been 14 miles. It stinks running on the treadmill but it was worth it in the end. I had heard that I would be slower outside than on the treadmill but I found just the opposite. I was faster outside. My theory is that I set the treadmill on a more conservative setting but when I was outside I was able to just run at whatever pace felt comfortable.
Now I get up at 5:30am for my runs. Or, when that's not possible, I run on a treadmill in the evening.
Hang in there!

Amanda

I also find that I'm faster outside, HOWEVER, I do use the treadmill to force my speed. Whenever I feel like I'm in need of a 30 second cut to my time, I make myself go a little faster on the TM and when I'm ready to get back out, I keep that bit of speed with me.

This NY heat and humidity is killing me. Going for a run at 6 isn't even cutting it anymore. I don't like to run in the dark in my neighborhood so it's back to the gym until this heat wave passes. At least I'll be able to work on my time/speed and watch the news while running and get some cross training in.

Give it some time until you get back in the swing of things. If you need to walk more, do it. Don't push too hard. I had a nasty chest cold during the 2nd week of June and had a 10k with DH scheduled on the 16th. Since we had already paid, I didn't want to sit it out so I ran. I made everything worse! It literally took me two weeks to recover. I couldn't breathe no less run because I kept coughing and coughing. Next time I'll listen to my body! Don't ignore when your body says it needs a rest.

Did 3 miles Tuesday and 5 miles yesterday, and I am SORE. Everything from my hips down hurts, lol. I took a couple weeks off and am paying the price. I was going to run again today, but decided to take a day off and do some yoga instead! Next run is Saturday for me, I think! Happy Thursday to all!

Great for you to commit to the Full Marathon. I did my forst half at Disney in February and was concered about the time limit. What we did was run a few races over 10K in length and sumbitted our best time. That put us in Corral C as opposed to H. They don't start the 16 min/mile until everyone crosses the start. You will have so much fun. I was the only one to take pictures and so I would run to the charaters and use the time in line as a break.

You can look at last years photos at Brightroom.com and choose which charaters you Must have your pictures with. The wait can be from anything from walk right up to 15 minutes. Don't worry as long as you run between the charaters you should be fine.
See you in January (I'm doing my frist marathon with you)

Sara Congrats on doing your first marathon at WDW. That was my first, too.

I got a discount on tickets last year after I saw a fellow WISHer post a code. That was the first time I had ever seen anything for marathon weekend. (And I don't know if it was a marathon weekend-specific code or just one that WWoS offers for sports participants) So keep an eye out later in the year.

And last year, they had a general public room-only discount that was offered that I was able to book for race weekend.

Jeez, an average 16 minute pace? Ok, joshing a little. This is really a wide open question that is tough to answer. Frankly, if you are speed challenged and come on a character line that is deeper than 3-4 folks skip it. You will find the line move fast and that little time is spent in line. I am thinking the maximum time spent for characters would be less than a minute a mile. By far the longest line is for Capt Jack. His line is rather long --- longer than any Mickey line I have seen. To speed things up, just have you camera ready to fire, hand it to the handler and snap you are off.

Hang in there. I understand that it is difficult to get back from an injury. Slow your run up as I believe you are trying to make up for the walk. Make sure that you are remaining conversational through the run. I have tried various intervals through the years and Jeff and I part company on any interval lasting less than 60 seconds. Just by the time you are getting things sorted out it is time to stop. Recapping. Slow up and try setting the interval at 1/1. Yes, you may be slower than molasses in winter but speed will come back quickly.

Figured it would be easier to post and get an answer here than try to figure out where in the WDW threads. Has WDW started doing emails for dining reservations like DL or do they still only take them through phone calls?

I've always done dining online exclusively.

There is an online ADR system or you can call.

Hi Sara! Congratulations on completing a half! I personally think that mentally a half marathon is harder than a full- something about getting to the 13 mile mark. You will do great! You can get discounted park tickets over at WWoS since you are there for a sporting event. There is a kiosk near the entrance that has prices and info. The catch is you have to use them or begin to use them on the day of purchase. There were also part day tickets available for athletes at the kiosk. Good luck training!

My 6pm run tonight was 91F. Ridiculous! I went really slowly and shortened my run/walk interval A LOT so there was more walking than running but still it was brutal.

I feel your pain. Good for you for sticking with it!

I ran 2 miles at 5:30 today. It was about 90F. It had just rained, so there were puddles everywhere. The humidity was off the charts and the sidewalk was steaming. There was lots of direct sunlight. Then the literal cloud of small "noseeum" insects showed up (they always do after a rain around here).

It was unpleasant.

But I still did it.

And took a shower afterward to get the bugs out of my hair.

Though I couldn't get out the ones I had swallowed while running.

Oh it was disgusting tonight. This was only day 3 of my training, and I would've preferred to skip it. :) 98 degrees and tomorrows trash day, so I was running around stinky trash bins. GAG!!

So I'm trying to do the Galloway method but have a question about the intervals. I'm a decent walker but pretty new runner, so I've set my intervals at 1 minute run/1:30 walk. I saw on the 1/2 marathon training page, he talks about doing like 10 seconds/50 seconds. So is the key to just do 1 minute intervals, or is what I'm doing ok? Not hard enough? Too hard? Help!! I'm so confused. :)
