Tomorrow I get my new orhotics!!:banana::banana: I cannot wait to get back to running. I am in need of some serious endorphines! I haven't run since I did a half back on April 21 :scared1: Time to get this rear in gear!

Hooray!!!! :yay::dance3:

Signing my dd and I up for the 5K today, which means we will have to leave early on Thursday to make it to the expo. Devastated, lol. Not thrilled about taking 3 personal days all at once, but sooooo worth it!

I appreciate hearing this. I ran my first half a few months ago (Rock n Roll Las Vegas) and while I was a little prepared for a crowded course, I had no idea it would be thick the entire way, including the finish line and recovery area. It sounds like this is managed a lot better and I suspect it has a lot to do with holding the half and full on separate days.

What do they typically serve post race for food and drink? After seeing tables of green bananas at RNRLV (no joke) I'm seriously thinking of having my husband carry some food for me.

The food at the finish is normally Clif Bar products, water, Powerade, bananas and some other fruit (I think it was oranges this year). The selection definitely isn't great, so having someone carry something is a good idea, especially because it can be a long time to get back to your room after the event.

I'm waffling on which race to sign up for...Mickey or Goofy?

Hello all... I am a new runner and very new to running Disney. I am considering the half marathon in Jan but I have some questions... Can anyone direct me to somewhere I could see some video of races? Are the runs crowded? Where is the best place to stay and what day should I plan on coming and going? Ikes! Many, many questions. I'll take any info I can get! :o)

Thanks!

If you go to YouTube, there are LOTS of videos of Marathon weekend races. The races are a bit crowded at the beginning, but then they thin out pretty quickly.

There is a long thread on here about Marathon weekend lodging. I recommend checking that out!

Thanks! Do people carry cameras while running? What is the avg amount to budget for a run weekend (without travel)?

many many people carry cameras at Disney races (there are characters along the course). As for budgeting, how much do you like to shop? I'm a big race expo shopper, so my race weekends are usually a lot, but I do think you could do it cheaply. Like anything at Disney, you can spend a lot or a little!

What kinds of items are for sale at the expo?

Thank you for answering my many questions!

Thank you for answering my many questions!

The Marathon Weekend Expo has just about everything for sale--lots of clothing including the ever popular "I Did It" shirts, glasses, mugs, keychains, running gear, pins, and all sorts of commemorative items. And that's just the runDisney gear. There are lots of other exhibitors at the expo selling just about everything running related!

Uh oh... I love to shop, so I'd better budget lots for the expo!:thumbsup2

My hubby and I are officially registered for the Half Marathon! We're so excited!! This will be my first race. I was going to do the Crescent City Classic 10K, but broke my pinky toe three days prior. :(

I got my new othotics today, but he said I should break them in for a week before I do any running and then start out light, like only a mile. I'm not sure I'll be able to make it! Might have to compromise with using the elliptical for a bit. I've been so lazy lately. I feel like a blob.

Hooray! I am so happy for you! You will be out and running before you know it!

Thanks. Let me know if there any other 5Ks around. I need to have something to keep me going. I am planning on doing the Father's Day 5K again.

I am doing that one, it runs right past my house every year, and I always say I will run it, so this is the year. PLUS I grew up with Kevin, whose memory this race is being run, so it is extra special!

There are some others in my radar, but nothing I committed to yet. I am doing the Spring Lake 5 next weekend, and some mud runs in July. That is it so far!

So I have been lurking around this thread trying to gather information on the whole Marathon Weekend thing. I participated in the 2011 Wine and Dine Half Marathon and have completed 2 othe half marathons. My PR the the half is 2:34...I know it's not great but at least it's something right??
The whole idea of completing a full marathon is so intriguing and exciting to me but I just don't know if I coiuld do it. How does one know if they are ready to take on such a feat?
I have a very busy family life and I'm not sure if I can fit in the intense training schedule either so that is something else I would have to consider.
At the very least I'm going to sign up for the Half and the kids will be participating in the kid's races so we are all very excited about our trip.
Just wanted to hear other's opinions on the subject. Thanks anyone who cares to respond.

Kaj1436: My first Half was at WDW this January. My time was 2:29:01. But the finish time was second to the achievement itself! Finishing a Half or Full Marathon is not about your time (unless your are an elite), it is about the accomplishment and the commitment and effort made along the journey. At least it is for me, who just started running a year ago.

If you have finished three Half Marathons, then you are already at a fitness level to begin training for a Full. Yes, the training is a commitment. But depending upon the training plan you choose, you can manage the time required. I usually train 3 days a week, with all my runs in the early mornings before work. My Long Runs on Saturdays are usually finished before (or soon after) my family wakes up (except for those 15-20 mile runs towards the end of the training schedule). So that means my family is not as impacted by my absences.

You have to just make the decision to start. After that, you follow your training plan, come up with your fueling and hydration strategies, and avoid injury. And don't forget to have fun. If you are part of a running club, see if they have a training program you can hook up with. Training with a running buddy or group can be helpful and make it more fun (and keep you accountable).

You will have doubts along the way, but trust in your training. You'll know that you have prepared for it when you 'toe the line'.

I will be running the Goofy next January. So maybe I will see you out there! :)

I think you're ready. You've done 3 halfs so you know what the commitment is for distance racing. Yes, your training will be longer for the full, but clearly you've learned how to manage it in a way that works for you and your life. I think you'll appreciate the journey :-)

From what I read online, that 1/2 was somewhat of a disaster, so definitely don't let it discourage you from doing big races!

How's this for similarities? When I ran the Disney marathon this past year, I'd run 3 half marathons (one at Disney - the Princess Half - and 2 not at Disney), and my half PR was...2:34.

I agree with everyone else that you absolutely have the capability to train for and finish the marathon...the issue is going to be scheduling the training. They aren't posted yet, but the Jeff Galloway training plans involved 3 days per week of running (2 of the days are 45-minute runs, I think, and then your long run). Maybe one of these will work for you. I don't have kids, but like RunRookie, I do get my runs in before work, and while it's really tough getting up before the sun is up, this is the best way for me to get the runs in without feeling like I'm losing significant time later in the day.

If you can think of a way to fit in your training, go for it! You won't regret it.
