I booked my reservation earlier this week and just used the normal WDW reservation number. However, in a few months, there should be room discounts and the lady who I spoke to said to call back to check on better prices. In any case, I have a room at the Polynesian which is where I want to stay for marathon weekend.

For those who booked their hotel allready, did you call the irun number or just wdw reservations?

I did the same as Qltrgrl2 - called the regular reservation number and booked a room at the Polynesian. I'm hoping that an annual pass/room discount will come out. I think there's a good chance...I hope so anyway! Can't WAIT to spend marathon weekend at the Poly!

I do think if you call the IRUN number you'll get a small discount, but I'm betting that any room/AP discounts that may or may not come out will be better.

sounds like a lot of people will be staying at the Poly. That was one of our choices but decided to surprise my mom and stay at the Wilderness Lodge instead.

Yeah, I'm waiting to book until the discounts for 2013 are released this summer. No point in spending money now. The resorts aren't full until the last minute!

Ran the half in 2006 and the inaugural Wine and Dine in 2010, but am thinking about attempting my first Goofy. Know someone who did who says it's one of the best things he's ever done at Disney.

Are there any discounts for us commoners who do not have Disney Visas?

doddles Sent you a PM

Well, I just registered for Goofy. My first. And I have no clue at this point how my running will progress this year! I am running New York this year, so it will be 2 months between races.

Here's hoping!

Thanks Kim. I wore my compressions sleeves around in the parks after I ran the princess. I felt like they helped. My legs felt good walking around. I like the sleeve because I am picky about my socks. I wore them during the race too.

Thanks! I'll have to look into them at the next expo.

I am running goofy for the first time. This will be 8th marathon, I will be running NYC 11-4. Can someone please recomend a good training program taking me from 11-4 to Goofy.

Thanks
Paul

I registered for the Goofy! I'm excited and nervous all at the same time.
This thread made me think about my reasons why I want to do the Goofy. In 2010 I could barely run a mile. I registered for the 2011 half marathon and trained for almost a year. Finishing that half marathon (my 1st race ever) was a life-changing experience. As I walked around the parks for the next few days, I knew that I would finish a Goofy some day. This year I finished the Mickey. It wasn't pretty but I did it. I debating working on my time for the full vs. trying for Goofy. I realized that working on time goals makes me enjoy running less than if I just train to finish. I know that if I run the Goofy, I will just be trying to finish and not trying to beat my best time. I tend to be hard on myself and I want running to be my happy place and not another opportunity to try to be better and better.

Does anyone have a code to not pay the Active.com fee?

Also, how many tech shirts does one receive for the Goofy? 2 or 3?

No way around the Active fees as far as I know, unless you join Active, and then you have to pay for that membership.

You get three shirts for Goofy- a half, a full and a Goofy.

You don't really need a special training program. The same program you use to get you ready for New York will work to get you ready for Goofy. Take a week or two off from heavy mileage and then pick back up again in late November. That'll give you time to get a few more good long runs in before starting your taper at the end of December. For example, when I ran my first Goofy, my last marathon before that was on 11/15. I started my long runs again on 11/28 (10 miles), and then went 18 miles, 15 miles, 17 miles, 22 miles, 10 miles, race weekend. Something similar ought to work for you pretty well, I would think.

So I just signed up for the WDW Marathon and its my first full marathon. :scared1: I am so nervous..... and I still have 9 months to go.

I registered today, too. It took several minutes before I could get the courage to hit the register button. I am nuts!

I've wanted to stay at the Poly for awhile but couldn't stomach the price, so I figured this was the time to do it - it'll be a shorter trip (we also considered staying there for a split stay to save some cash in the future) and I'll get the monorail transportation for the half and full. The Wilderness Lodge is high on my wish list too, though - hopefully we'll be staying there in December 2013 hopefully! :thumbsup2

You'll both be fine! Just find a good training plan and stick to it. You'll have a blast.

Well said! :goodvibes I was so concerned about my time when training for the 2011 Wine and Dine that I ended up more stressed after my long runs. I'm planning to do my first full as the Mickey, and just in the last week or so, I've realized that I've got to choose: time goal or distance. Despite physical therapy, chiropractics, and using a run/walk method, my knee cannot handle going my desired speed for long runs. It can make the distance if I go slower. I want to be in this for the long haul, so I'm going to slow down my long runs and hope I can make running my happy place again. ;)

I just registered for the Full - it will be my first full, so I am excited and nervous. I am done quite a few halfs, but have never had the nerve to go for the full.

My best race season ever last year at age 50 have given me a whole new confidence level and the idea of being part of the 20th anniversary made it too good to pass up. :yay:

This is a huge step for me, but I know that I will find lots of support on this board. :grouphug:

Thanks everyone!!

I just talked to my parents we are officially making our reservations from 12/30-1/14 (miss Marathon Monday but eh I can go to the parks post race). I am going to get to see New Years at Magic Kingdom! I had given up on that with the new race date. Also heard we may go somewhere for a day or two or maybe three (didn't say where) but who cares I get to go to New Years! Oh and I am registered for the full.

Me too. Registered for my first full with the Mickey 20 anniversary being my primary motivator....that and what a way to celebrate my 40th (eek) birthday. :cool1:

I did my first marathon at 51, also at Disney, so I know how you feel. Good luck with your training.
