Official WDW Marathon Weekend 2013 Thread-Part 2

Thank you all for the prayers for my mom. Unfortunately we lost her over the weekend. I'm still planning to run the Goofy and expect she'll somehow be there with me.

Amanda

I am sorry for your loss Amanda. All the best to you and your family during this trying time.

'K - I got my revised costume - I'm going to go as a middle age runner hoping to finish from CANADA. :thumbsup2

I managed 6 miles yesterday. I stayed on the treadmill because of snow and ice. I did run 15 sec/walk 45 sec intervals without foot pain.

Amanda

I am so sorry for your loss :-(

I'm going as Minnie Mouse! the girlfriend sparkle skirt (complete with tail) with homemade ears and polka dot bow. The ear headband I bought at Disney and wore for the W&D was way too tight and downright painful so I made my own clip in ears... Given the chillier temperatures, I'm bringing a black tank top and a 3/4 sleeve red top so I've got some more options depending on the weather.

Oh and on the subject of Garmin failure, does anyone else ever have a problem getting it to charge? And then keep having the screen go blank? Mine chose this weekend to fail me.

That a such a cute skirt! I had been wanting here peacock island skirt since she released it and tried to think up.a costume with it but the only thing I could think of was Ariel and in the end I decided to go for comfort with a few touches of fun. So I will be wearing the sparkle skirt and I got a customized teal shirt to match. I am on sabbatical in the spring so my shirt says "starting my sabbatical on the right foot". Classes start the day after the marathon but I won't have to be there. Woo hoo! I have a sparkle headland and a tiara bondiband so I'll wear one of those unless something catches my eye at the expo ( I know, no new things but if it's the same type of headband I already have it should be ok). Or I may do someone's suggestion of a Minnie headband over a bondiband. I have Minnie clip on ears I attached to my headband before and that seemed to work. I was just hoping for ears that match the teal colors Ill be wearing.

After I got my shirt and skirt I realized that I was wearing similar touches to my first half marathon and Disney race: I had on a type of aqua /teal shirt and a peacock feather. Maybe the.combo is my good luck charm :)

Anyone know how often they are updating the Waiver list? Signed up 2 DS for the Mickey Mile and wanted to print. The last update was 12/27.

i'm not wearing a costume but i AM wearing a t-shirt that a designer friend is making for me. it has a picture of mickey mouse running on the back and the walt quote, "it's kind of fun to do this impossible"

here's a question - what are your thoughts on putting your name on the front of your shirt? my runner friend insisted i put my name on my shirt so people would cheer for me. i felt a little silly but it was fun to hear "go nancy!" i think i will really need that again. thinking of putting my name and my home town on the front. cheesy? or good idea?

Couple questions....anyone run in a tutu? My mom watched the race videos and asked if I was going to run in a tutu---there were quite a few in the vid. I have enough tulle and ribbon to make one, but the whole "nothing new on race day" gives me pause. Thoughts?

I've gotten the oddest pain in my left leg. Either side of the Achilles tendon, but just achy. Bothers me a bit when walking or still but not troublesome when running. I stretched lying down pointing my toe and felt something catch, almost like a charley horse before Christmas and it's been achy since. Does not impede running though. We did 12- minute miles on our 30 min run Sat. So bizarre!

I think if you signed up before November 1 your name should be on your bib. It looks like small writing but people were shouting mine on the course in 2012, so it's definitely readable.

And it's TOTALLY fun to hear people cheering for you. Great idea from your friend...if you signed up late then yeah, definitely put your name on your shirt, but if you signed up early enough you shouldn't have to. :)

Your name will be on your bib, so adding it to your shirt might be overkill.

I've done that twice. Since it's worn over your normal running shorts, it shouldn't be a problem with chafing or any of the other concerns with new gear. Plus, tulle is stiff & scratchy and gives you a nice buffer in the corrals.

My thoughts are training in a tutu is probably a worse idea than racing in a tutu that you haven't trained in.

Just make sure whatever you wear under the tut can be worn by itself so you can take the tutu off if it becomes a problem.
