Official WDW Marathon Weekend 2013 Thread-Part 2

Is it just me????? I find my times are increasing over the last few weeks rather than decreasing. Usually about 10.5 minute mile but lately it is creeping up to 11-12 minute miles? Not sure if this is due to fatigue with increase training or pms or I am just getting old. LOL!

Really want to break 5 hours but now it is looking touch and go?

Don't know what to do

Same here! I really want my finish time to start with a 4, I am having a lot of self-doubt right now (especially after today's run).

I think it is fatigue from the training mileage increase.

I do remind myself that just finishing is the most important - but that is hard to remember when you are having a bad day!

Bad day here, too. Set out for 12.5, but only got 6.5 done. On the way back to the house to drop off the dog, my hamstring started hurting badly again. Not as bad as the worst it has hurt, but enough to tell me to can it. I think I am going to get a sleeve for my thigh and see if it helps. It had been feeling better and then I aggravated it falling asleep in a funny position on the couch. Urgh. Looks like my first 13.1 is going to be the race after all. We decided to try again for the 12.5 when the 14-miler is scheduled (Galloway Half plan) and then follow the taper.

I love my thigh sleeve. It has helped my hamstring immensely. And it's now serving dual purpose for my groin too.

Hang on!

Times may be going slower but it could be due to a number of things. As we hit new distances week in and week out the body tends to suffer from a long term fatigue. Diminished performance may also come from a chronic injury. If this is your first, hang in there. You will have differing thoughts the first weekend of January as you hit the second taper and shortest weekend for some time. This will get many of us chomping at the bit to do more. That is a true sign that you are ready.

I didn't have any hard plans as to what I was going to do today. Hoping for double digits. Yea, didn't quite make it. I was bleh from the start. Normally running with my water bottle doesn't bother me but I swear today it was filled with lead. At about 4.5 I was able to ditch it and my running pants (I had on shorts underneath) and felt a little better. The 42 degree cold hitting my legs seemed to wakey them up. I started to get really hungry at the end and maybe a little lightheaded so I turned towards home. Finished strong with 8ish.

I think we're all a little mental at this point. :dance3:

Fatigue??? Geez, is that what this crazy, zombie-like state is? I hope that doing 23 next week and then the marathon prepares me to not be so tired. I'm wiped today!!

Thunderstorm this morning so I did my 18 at the town Recreation Center's small indoor track.....only took 216 laps LOL. I feel like that t-shirt - "This seemed like a good idea 6 months ago"

I agree with all the previous posters - I think we are all tired. I do love the new pic RunDisney posted on FB with the Keep Calm and Train. I think I am going to print this onto a transfer and make a sweatshirt for myself.

Speaking of Pancakes.. I did my 17 miler yesterday at All Star Resorts and kept seeing people with pancakes to the point that was going to be my 'reward' for finishing..

Ran well- Completed most of my intervals correctly (only walked a few 'runs') and finished in very acceptable time for me 3:38 (though runkeeper was confused with the very overcast day- as It kept telling me I was doing 19 min miles (when a 'walk mile' for me is 14!) but ended up 15 min to late for pancakes as it was lunch time then..

Great idea! I'm at least printing it and putting on my bathroom mirror.

HEY I've got that shirt! On the back it says, "RACE OFFICIAL, Do not pass." I'm wearing it to the marathon.

Haha! That's hilarious!

Sounds like we're on the same plan. We made it 10.5 instead of 12.5, but it wasn't pretty and my right knee is KILLING me. I also feel hungover from it, but I didn't eat much when we got home because I knew we were heading out to do some shopping/eating, so i think I need to remember to refuel when I get done. Our minutes per mile sucked, too which is frustrating. I felt like I was doing great and my time tells otherwise. :(
Planning for 12.5 in two weeks. I can't believe the half in 5 weeks!!!

Oh my, our time stunk, too! We had been averaging about 11-12 minutes for the first mile, then creeping up to about 13. We started at 14:30 and ended at 15:30! I blame all the NOT running we've been doing since resting injuries over the last couple weeks. Hopefully we'll improve sticking with it over the next couple weeks!

I made it through 14 miles today with absolutely no hip pain, which was pretty thrilling. I'd wanted to do 16 but we were running out of daylight on the trail and had to head home. After a forced 11 days off, though, I was really happy with how things went and my time (my fastest ever for a run over 10 miles) and am starting to feel again like I may actually be able to cross the finish line in January. :cheer2:

I'm glad I'm not the only one who's going a bit mental at this point, though! I keep telling my friends and coworkers that I'll be back to my normal self when we get back from Orlando. For now it's all I can think about!

Gearing up to head out for a 10k run with my local running store. It is 24F. Yay! I better run well to generate some heat. Have thermal running leggings, thermal shirt, winter running jacket, arm warmers, hat, scarf, gloves, and determination!

Yesterday was 17k and it went pretty well. We stuck to our intervals (5:1s) and made pretty good time. I was running with my sister who runs slower than I do, so it was pretty comfortable. At about km 12 we stopped at Subway for a bathroom break and shared a bag of salt and vinegar potato chips. They were the best chips EVER. We devoured them and then headed back into the cold.

It was interesting because my sister was in lots of muscle pain around 11k and she didn't have any tylenol. She hadn't brought any electrolyte tabs (she was running with just Gatorade) and I gave her a Salt Stick tablet to take as I diagnosed that she needed salt and electrolytes. She thought I was crazy as she has arthritis and *knew* it was that. Well, voila! The salt worked, and a few minutes later she was much more comfortable. She is older than me by 6 years so Little Sister knows a thing or two!!

Because of my knee injury I am working up on my distances, and am behind. Knee is holding out ok and I am working on back-to-back runs and making each run really count. I will be short on mileage but I am running well and 4 days a week, plus cross-training. Next weekend is 24k, then I am doing a 26k trail run (a very real trail with hills, and fallen logs, and some 15 degree climbs) as my last long run. I am feeling bad that I couldn't get several really good long runs in, but this will have to do. Scared witless. Hoping my usual runs that are hilly and varied will serve me well on the much flatter WDW courses.

Happy to report I had a good run yesterday. I'm starting to think my forced break of a month due to an ankle sprain wasn't all that bad. It's given me new stamina and motivation to get it done with a compressed training plan.

Thanks to coach's advice I did 6 miles two weeks ago, 10 miles last week, and 15 yesterday! It felt pretty good. I finished in under 3 hours (2:56). I still do have a bit of stiffness on my foot but not bad and only in the late parts of my run. During my 10 miler last week it got a bit painful in the last mile but I didn't feel.that this week on my 15 miler

My Achilles is really tight and hurts. Any good stretches or remedies?

Oops. I wasn't done. My goal was to.do 13-16 this were so I am proud of 15. I had to do most of the run alone since my training partners are where they should be on the plan and did 6. First time I had to do water drops since our drinking fountains got turned off the weekend of my injury and this was my longest run since then. Had a busy day after my run and did a bit of walking buy I think.that made my legs.feel.better.

So I'll do 20 miles in two weeks in time.for a.three week taper. Trying to.decide whether to.do 18 miles next weekend or take a pull back.week and do 10. Does any other plan do pull back weeks or is that just Galloway?
