Official WDW Marathon Weekend 2013 Thread-Part 2

So excited to be leaving TOMORROW!!!

Quick questions:

-Pack Gu gels in carry-on or checked? I brought like 10 or 12.
-Pack salt tablets in carry-on or checked?
-And finally, electrolyte powder (loose in a baggie) in carry-on or checked?

Thanks!!

If you could have one thing (within reason - like don't say, Ryan Hall's speed) ready for you at mile 20 of the marathon, what would you request?

For me, an ice cold 12oz can of fully carbonated coca-cola. I don't think I would drink the entire thing, but man I would probably pay $5 an ounce. I have pondered the option of stopping at McDonalds, just don't know if I would pull the trigger.
A Coke sounds pretty good! A few bites of NY cheese pizza. Pineapple juice.
Not within reason, but a wish just the same...pain-free!

I forgot about this mile 20 business. Well the anticipation may help the long boring stretch of road leading up to it anyway. One can hope. I'm thinking I won't really care at that time..... :rotfl:

Finally had my first marathon dream last night, as many of you already shared! I was running with my 8 year old daughter, who's not even a runner. My 10 year old is! We were getting off a ride, I think Animal Kingdom (old course) because I had 10 more miles to go and 1 hour left till the 7 hour cut-off, and she decided she was done. Not gonna finish, just giving up. So I left her with my parents and I thought I could still finish. I actually did the math, remembering that with me being in corral D, I actually had a 28 minute cushion. So I took off running thinking I could do 10 miles in 1 hour 28 minutes. I'm about an 11-12 min mile runner!! Not gonna happen. But I was thinking to myself, darn it, I trained for so long and so hard I'm not gonna give up. Otherwise I'd have to go through this training again because I will get that Goofy medal. Oh yes, I will. And I soooo don't wanna do this training again!!!

Silly dream. I guess I'm determined.
I had a bad marathon dream two nights ago. I forgot my Garmin, we got lost on the race course, I had no idea how far we had gotten. Somehow we ended up in DHS early in the race and I got upset because I knew it was supposed to be near the end. On the plus side, right before I woke up, I saw the mile marker 19 - so even in a bad dream I made it that far!

Gu has to be checked. The other stuff can be in your carry on or checked - your preference.

1) Either. Pack gels in a zip lock because one will seep; especially if not in the baggie.. On business trips where I am only carrying on, I have only been questioned once. ( I guess I should say that I usually do not include in my 311 baggie.) To be safe, include in the 311 baggie if you have room. For Disney, I pack mine in the checked bag. This is one of those items you would hate to lose but is very replaceable if that were to occur. I check mine for the convenience.

2) Same. They can be carried on if you have space. I pack mine. If you have not thought ahead here, bring an extra zip lock for your race day supply.

3) Of the 3, I would be more likely to carry this on. Since it comes in an expensive and large tub, you would hate to have to replace in a pinch then try to make room for the tub on the way home.

Hope this helps. YMMV

Actually, Gus can go either way. The requirement is a container less than 3.4 oz. I carry mine on when traveling a short trip. Check for Disney as I need room in the carry on.

Your dream should be a reminder that you should erase previous workouts from memory; especially on a model older than the 610.

[ADDED] Did I really say 'Gus' can go either way? Spell corrector got me. GU's can go...

OK Laundry time. Needing to wash race gear so I can get around to packing.

Any of these can go in your carry-on bag, as long as the Gu fits in your 1 qt bag with other liquids/gels.

We hit Busch gardens today and on the ride back to SOG we were talking about how challenging these races will be because of the heat and high humidity. Training in the mild pnw doesn't really prep you for something like this. I said, my goal for sunday is 5:00-5:30, and whatever happens I just don't want to $^#* myself. :-)

Beer. A nice, cold Racer 5 IPA would be just perfect.

So totally agree with this.

I plan for the Philadelphia Marathon to be my first marathon (either in 2013 or 2014 depending on whether I can commit the time to train properly for it this year)...

Right around mile 20 - 21 there are always unofficial aid stations with people handing out cups of cold beer... What more motivation do you need to get through the teen miles? And what better way to smooth the way home to the finish? :)

Check out the new limited edition New Balance Run Disney shoes!

Am I the only one who thinks those things are fugly? Everyone on FB is gushing over them. If they had done a Newton or the Kinvara in a print I would have been all over it, Lol.

Finally finished my costume! Just in time as we are leaving in the morning. Nothing like procrastination:rolleyes1.
Here it is!

I took the picture with the tights even though they will stay in the suitcase with the heat. The sailor collar took the most time, just finished it this afternoon and I have three burns and a blister to show for it. Everything is on safety pins so I can drop if I start having issues and the buttons will hold on my bib:love:. Can't wait to get a picture with Donald on Sunday!
