Official thread for the 2010 Princess 1/2 Marathon & 5k- REGSITRATION IS OPEN!

A few random thoughts...

Until today, I really thought about quitting before I even started. I have had a time with blisters - chronic despite using wicking socks and body glide...
But today I went BACK to the special fitness store and got them to re-fit my shoes. I got a new pair and feel like a new woman!

I plan on mostly walking the half, but my pace with those other shoes was pushing 17 minutes and sometimes 18 minutes - and hence my thoughts that I should quit before I even start.

In addition to new shoes, I have also been experimenting with my music. I need music to help keep pace, so I figured out what songs help with my pace and determined the beats per minute of the songs that seem to help me speed up without being too fast for me...

I picked my 3 "best" songs that I already had and used this website to determine how many beats per minute they were:
TAP FOR BEATS PER MINUTE.

Once I figured out my best "beat" - I started hunting for songs that would be the same beats per minute and found enough to fill up almost an hour while I walk.

This made a HUGE difference in my time today - as I was able to walk a mile in 15:43, which was a LOT faster than I was able to go just a few days ago.

For blisters, Bandaid Blister Ampoules have worked great!

And I can't say enough for the right shoes! Even if you were "professionally" fit - don't be afraid to try again.

So...if you are lurking and worried, don't worry! Keep at it! One day soon you may have a moment where you KNOW you CAN do it! It happened to me...just today!

Awesome! Glad you're feeling better and that everything is working out. You can do it and you're right don't be afraid to go back in the shoe store and say these shoes are not working out. Just because they are the "professionals" doesn't mean they are right! Listen to your feet :rotfl:

Great walking time!!!! You are going to cross that finish line and get your Princess medal girl!!!! princess:

maroo I am just under a 16 minute mile... I fluxuate between 14:30 to 16:15 so if you want someone to walk beside I am there. we can compare blisters;)

:) That would be awesome! Depending on conditions, I will probably be in all black (long sleeve shirt and pants) and a WISH hat. IF it is cold, then I will also be in a blue sweatshirt...and I may decorate it...and then toss it during the race. :)

And I'll be dragging my butt behind you guys, urging you on. ;)

As long as you finish, my friend! Go for it!

My feet were sure talking and I was not listening!

I can not wait to cross that finish line. I thought I was going for the bling...but that medal will be NOTHING compared to the awesome feeling of crossing that finish line!

maroo, don't discard yourself!! The sheer energy of the day along with being with so many great Wish'ers will help you greatly!!!!!!

And - now, you all are making me want to run to check the forecast!!! I told you i swore it off for a few more days -- why are you all taunting me!!!! ;)

Got the final race instructions in my email yesterday --- even though i have done this race before, i got a small knot in my stomach reading all the "rules" again! LOL And, we have to be AT the start area by 4:30 am! YIKES!!!!

Yikes is right! :scared1:

Thanks for your kind words! :)

Did they every post pics of the 2010 medal anywhere?? Last year, they showed us a pic of the medal in one of the email newsletters, but i heard from someone here that the medal had changed, but i have never seen a pic or mention of it anywhere.....

I have a question...

And someone tell me if this is a bad idea.

At what point do we check our bags?

I was wondering if I should wear my crocs (which are so comfy!) as I get TO the start place and then just "check" them and put on my running shoes after I check my bag?

Is that a bad idea? Will most of my walking be AFTER bag check anyway?

And does anyone happen to have a copy of the "2010 Princess Half Marthon Finish Line and Family Reunion Area" picture that you can actually read?

Oh yes! Picture please! :flower3:

I am terrified of 4:30AM. Terrified.

Maroo, I would like to see a picture that you could read, as well. Even super magnified that was like looking at a blurry mess.

I'm glad that you didn't give up and that you found good shoes!!

So far I have only had one blister, on the inside of my right heel. I think because I skate so much (at least once or twice a week), that my feet are a mess of calluses.

Btw, what does everyone think of getting a pedi before the race? My last pedi was at least a year ago and I am afraid that getting one might erase some of those calluses.

I would wait until AFTER the race to get a pedi
And cut your toe nails now, don't wait until a day or two before the race

I cut my toenails at least twice a week. Sharp toenails + skates = pain.

That is what I thought, on the pedi, thanks! :)

I agree with Joan, do NOT get a pedi now.. wait til after..you don't want to mess with callouses!

Maroo - i wouldn't bother wearing croc's there -- if you want, you could put them in your bag to check, and put them on AFTER the race, you may be dying to get out of your sneaks by then! Last time, i brought my Croc Flip Flops to put on after - just to give my toes a chance to breathe.. however, i don't know that i will do that again - only b/c if they (bag check) happens to lose my bag or give it to someone else, i don't want to be without my croc flip flops for the rest of my trip!!! So, i may just keep my sneaks on.

Just want everyone to be aware, they are saying this year, you HAVE to use the bag provided to you at the expo, for your bag check.. Which, to be honest, i don't like -- last year, i used a bag that is the same size as the one they gave us at the expo, but it was just from the DCL and it was bright red.... so there was no mistaken it in the sea of black princess bags (why they go with black, i don't understand - not very "princessy"! LOL ) but, if they will ALL be the same bag this year, it may be easy for bags to be mistakenly given to the wrong person - even though we have numbers tacked to them.. mistakes could happen. Bottom line - do NOT check anything valuable in your bag!!

As far as i can tell, they never showed us a pic anywhere... :( Are we SURE that it was changed from last year's?

Just got in from doing a quick couple of miles. I wanted to go farther but after a mile, I looked like a snow(wo)man! As far as the weather for the race, I know it can't be any worse than what we had for the half marathon in January! "Historic conditions" is what they called it. Those of us in the race called it something else. Just be prepared and you will be fine. When I look at the candid shots that the photographers took of DD and myself along the route, we are laughing in every one of them! You will have a great time. The adrenalin pumps you up and gets you through the race. Although, I think I need a little extra adrenalin pump about mile 12! We are heading out on Monday. Hope to get a better walk in later this week.

Meg

You may want to consider putting an identifying item on the outside of the checked bag this year since they'll all look the same. We tie a bandana to our stroller so it's obvious which Disney Stroller is ours without looking at every tag. It may make it faster for the person at bag check if you can say "Here's my number - it has a green bow on top, as well" I got to try to track down my bag after the half when they didn't have enough volunteers, and it is not always easy with those numbers as the only identifying mark!

I wasn't very worried about the bag in January. The bag check was separated into smaller groups by letter (most people went to the letter for their last name). For there being as many people as they had, getting my bag back didn't take very long at all.

I put my crocs in my bag in January too, but it was way too cold to switch into them. I carried my id, room key, phone and camera with me and I had no problems with it. I may through $10 in the bag so I can get a massage though.
