Official thread for the 2010 Princess 1/2 Marathon & 5k- REGSITRATION IS OPEN!

hi everyone -

it is 1am here in lovely nj and i just got off my tm, long story short i ran the whole 8 miles :banana::banana: ------ omg i never thought in my wildest dreams i could do it. :rotfl::rotfl:

I kept my pace easy without speed being an issue, just to make sure i could do it!!!!

However, it was not without some drama! Ugh :confused3 my wonderful dh bought me a tm so i could train in the comforts of our home. Well at 6 miles i was dripping, i mean dripping and i felt like i was going to die - there was no air comming in the window - so .......... I took off my shirt and hung it (big mistake, i think) on the arm of the treadmill.

I think the mounds of sweat dripping onto my new tm - made it turn off:scared1: Yes it turned off!!!!! I was at 7.69 miles :scared1::scared1: I wanted to scream!! Finally after 2-3 minutes my tm was working again, a bit slow but still moving!!!

So bottom line, i finished my ***8miles*** in 1 hour and 42 minutes!!!:banana:

I will be 6 months post op on the 29th, and every time i do these lr i am just amazed that last year i stopped running because i was in so much pain --- i swore i would never be able to run again.............and now look :cloud9:

Well, off to bed - i have to teach tomorrow at the college (5 hours of sleep here i come)

way to go! Congrats!

Who wants to help me click the "Pay Now" button?

I'm thinking about going on my own (at least without DBF, but DM and family would be going). I've had a room at BLT booked since I joined DVC and I have an AP so I just need a flight and registration.

I feel guilty about going without DBF though!

Megan Click the button...you wouldn't be here if you didn't want to really go...click it NOW!

Finished my long run on the TM. 8 miles 1:17:30.

BTY, I was at the MK last week (1/21) by myself and walked around thinking about the next time I would be in the Kingdom...running past Dumbo, the Castle, out past SM, and over the railroad...

Hi everyone! I want to apologize for being MIA, i have been working on our roster list, but we had a death in the family, so it has been lots of family time -- i will get it posted asap!

Welcome to those who have joined us!! This WISH group is amazing, the support is like no other!!

I have skimmed thru, and saw lots of stuff about eating -- here is my 2cents:
PRACTICE with what you want to use/eat!! You will instantly find out if it is agreeable to your stomach or not - i found out those mocha gels do NOT agree with me.. LOL But, you don't want to find that out on race day!
The a.m. of the race, i had a bagel with pbutter, and a banana. Yes, i had coffee, b/c i am use to drinking lots of coffee, so it didn't bother me.. what bothered me, though, was taking my anti-depressant meds right before the race!!!!
I usally took them at different times of the day, but forgot to take them for a few days prior to the race - why i took the med on race a.m. i don't know -- but i didn't think i would be able to start - my stomach was killing me!!!
Anyway, i decided as soon as i got back home, i took myself off my meds, and have felt GREAT. (Not that i am advising anyone to stop meds!!) I just suggest that you NOT altar your regular routine in ANY way!!
You will be nervous on race day -- it's overwhelming, there are thousands and thousands of people -- when they start making you head over to the corrals, you feel like a heard of cattle -- it's unreal if you have never expeirenced it!! It will do a number on your nerves/stomach.. (I like Corrina's suggestion about tums, i will have to remember that!)

Also, during the race last year, i carried my Powerade. I am a sipper, and i don't care for just water -- i did use it though at the stops to dump over my head as it got warmer out! LOL But, i sipped on my powerade the whole race - and used 2 gels as well, but felt fine.. it's all what you are use to using. I also got really hungry during the race last year, about mile 8 or 9 -- luckily, my mom pulled out a banana from somewhere (still don't know where she was hiding it! LMAO) but i was so grateful, and i ate that - helped much! She also had an orange that she had peeled before we left (again, no idea where she kept this stuff.. LOL) - so, i think i will bring a banana again somehow..

On my training, i did my longest since spraining my toe - 5miles. I did a walk2/run1 alternate and averaged a 13:45 min. pace - i'll take it. My goal is to stay under a 14 min. mile.. Toe is sore, but not too bad -- i am aiming for 7 miles next weekend as my long day..

Again, my apologies, but i will get the list up very soon!! Congrats to everyone logging awesome mileage!!!!

Stacy - So sorry about your loss! If I can help, let me know. I will be at Princess and going through the thread would help me catch up. I oculd PM you the new roster if it would help! :grouphug:

Caitsmama -- Good for you!! I have heard that regular exercise can help with depression. I know I sure feel better when I complete my workouts.

3 miles, 42 min, done. I managed to maintain walk 3, run 1 intervals, with a few walk 1 run 1 in there as well.

OMG you treadmill girls are my HEROs!:worship:

I just don't know how you do it. How you don't get bored & just jump the heck off. I can't wait to hear about your BIG finishes at the Princess!!

As for me, I did my longest run to date on Saturday, 9.25 in 1 hr 40min. For the 1st time it feels like 13 is actually do-able:yay: It's amazing what a need to get out of the house can do! LOL

GO, go, go WISH Princesses!!:cheer2: :cheer2:

I did it! I'm in! I need to go get a drink to calm my nerves!

Great job... I can't do more than 4-5 miles on the TM! I go crazy!!! Good for you!

I posted a couple of weeks ago about how my thinking has changed from "there is no way I can finish this race" to "it will be hard, but I can do it." Since then, I have been on a couple of 10 mile runs and now I know I can do it and am excited. I can't believe how far I have come, last year at this time I was 60 lbs. heavier, my life is so different now.

So back to my question - I know that the final mile or so for me is going to be very emotional. I can pretty much guarantee that I will be bawling like a baby when I finish. So is this normal or are people going to laugh at me? I actually won't care, just wondering if others would be doing the same thing.

G&GMom - It's so great that you are now feeling confident in your ability to finish - if you've done more than one 10, you will definitely be prepared to finish!
As for the finish line question: I don't know if others will be emotional at the time you cross that finish line, but I do know you won't be the only one that day to shed some tears as you complete your journey. It's a huge accomplishment and brings about a lot of emotions for many participants. Whatever it brings up for you is OK! I guarantee you that no other runner will laugh at you for your response to such an achievement, and I would not expect any spectators would laugh either. Most people there know what is involved in preparing for and running a race like this.

I'm leaving on a jet plane!

Flights are booked. I need to adjust my DVC ressies and points now!

Don't worry, you won't be alone...I can only image what I'm going to be like if/when I actually cross the finish line. Heck, I got emotional over the weekend when I finished my 7 miles, so I can only imagine what it's going to be like come race day!!

Okay, now I am all booked. I will be doing some resort hopping during this trip. I'll be at Saratoga Springs March 3-7, BLT 7-8 and Beach Club Villas (8-9). Phew! Yay for luggage services though.

I can't believe there were no studios available at BLT for the time I am there. At least I'll have a nice room with the big tub post race. I only chose SSR since it is a race resort otherwise I would be trying to stay at AKL.

I am bouncing off the walls right now!
