Official thread for the 2010 Princess 1/2 Marathon & 5k- REGSITRATION IS OPEN!

Hi everyone, glad to hear everyone is doing well with their training!! Mine has been at a standstill right now - as i am healing from a sprained toe. (don't ask!) But, i am grateful it is not broken.. although it puts a cramp in my training for the next couple weeks..

All i know is i am glad i picked the March race over the Jan. race -- as it is COLD down there right now! LOL But, i wish all the racers luck this weekend!!!!

I'm not happy that you are injured, but I glad that it happened now and not later.

It's not cold hrere now.....it's freezing!!!!!!!!!!

You're never alone at a Disney race......you're WISH.

Those are such kind words, Syko.:lovestruc
I have been trying to keep up with my training program, but it sure is difficult with the holidays and the cold weather here in NJ.
I'm plugging along, though, and hoping I will be more than ready for the Princess in March.:wizard: It is so helpful to know that there are so many WISHers here to cheer us on and keep us going:cheer2:
Good luck to everyone this weekend.:thumbsup2

I will second that -- the WISH group is amazing!!! There is nothing better to know that you can talk to anyone with the lime green mickey on, and they take you right in! LOL It totally helps pull you thru the race to see all the supporters/cheerers also cheering for the WISH'ers!!

Well, i will still stick with saying it's COLD down there -- b/c it's FREEZING up here!! LOL You guys are still slightly warmer.. ;)

Just wanted to let everyone know about my Target find today: lime green women's sweatshirts for $8. I haven't decided if it will be my throwaway or not, but I thought it was a good deal, so I grabbed it.:thumbsup2

Thanks!! Will have to check that out!!

When do the Spa & Ticket packages get released for the event? I would hope in the next month, or do they wait until a week before hand?

Thanks everyone!!

(long run of 5 tomorrow, kind of nervous;) never gone that far before)

Keep one foor infront of the other everyone, 54 days left to go!!:banana::banana:

This is my first marathon (dh, friend and her husband's first as well) and my girlfriend and I are very nervous that we will be swept.

Anyway,my question for those of you who have done this is, what do you plan to do the rest of your day? I know some are going to the MK, but how will you have energy to do that? Aren't you going to be sore?

We were thinking of trying to get tickets for the Atlanta Braves game that evening, since we can just sit and have a beer (wine for me:)). At first she didn't think we should do anything except sit by the pool for the rest of the day, but the weather may not be warm enough.

So, how do you feel the rest of the day, and days later?:confused3

Mickeymom...we are planning on spending the day at Epcot, but I have to admit if the weather is nice I may choose to sit by the pool...only because I'm from MN and I know I wont be doing that back home for 3 more months. I guess we're not too concerned about being sore...we've run 10-13 miles a couple times already and I'll be in the middle of training for a full marathon at that time so I'm hoping after the race I'll feel like I've just finished an easy 6 mile run (ha, ha!). YOu might find that moving a bit feels better than just sitting...once you sit too long your muscles tighten up and then its hard to get back up.

Ughh I haven't run in over a week, it's just too dang cold. But I expect the weather will not improve much until spring so I should get over it!
My last long run was 11 miles and my weekly runs have been 5 for a couple weeks now. I never thought I would get here.
My mom is still struggling, she says her goal is to make it to mile 8 before getting sweep. I hope she surprises herself and finishes.
I'll be buying my plane tickets this week; and hopefully tickets soon after.

Hey all... winter is tough for training, especially for us in colder climates... I am contemplating where to do my 5 mile run today... outside in the 10 degree air or at the warm comfort of the gym, where I will bored out of my mind!! Ughhh... I just keep reminding myself it will be all worth it when I am running down Main St USA with Mickey and Minnie cheering me on!!
Happy training everyone, you're doing great!

Hi everyone--I posted a little further back but had no luck with an answer so I will try again...

Does anyone know if there is a DVC or AP discount on race registration for the Princess Half??

Thanks so much!

Hi BlakeNJ -

I too am in NJ (southern most part that is) --- I too was wondering the same thing - however I was told by Disney that there is no discount for this race ONLY for the January 1/2 and full there is. This is a new race, and no discounts are given.

I am wondering if that will hold true for the Oct 1/2 too, but I will wait and see once this weekend is over :) I was hoping that a promo code would have been placed in the "goodie bags" of the 1/2 and full this weekend.

I would sign up for the princess, because I am sure it is at 90% since there are alot of people going to sign up now since they have run this weekend.

Hope that helps! ;)

I'm a wimp and have done LOTS of TM miles. I don't know how you Northerns' do it. It has been unually cold this winter and I haven't run outside since early Nov. I love my ipod and do have windows to look out while running. I am pretty good at imagining where I am on the course while on the TM. Hope you all can get your miles in and remember...IT WILL ALL BE WORTH IT!:lovestruc

oh def plan on being sore (after i ran my first i called my ironman-veteren dad and was like please please tell me this gets better....but he says if you truly race each race, getting faster and stronger each time...no, you're always sore after each race.) but i wouldn't plan on lying around all day after either. i would actually recommend going to a park the afternoon after and the next day because as you walk more you loosen up. plus half the fun is walking around the parks with your medal!

after the race i plan on going back to the hotel and grabbing a quick bite, taking a shower, and napping until lunch at epcot...and drinking around the world. it could be all in my head, but i swear the wine helps relax my muscles and takes some of the soreness away

I love the winter and snow:lovestruc I am snowshoeing for one off my cross training days each week. I do find adjusting the yak trax to be a pain on my long walks though. They are really slipping and poping off a lot. I think/hope this is what is adding minutes to my time.

|Downfall is that I can't try out my race gear untill race day...I cancelled my gym membership so I can't try it on the treadmill. I could wear in under my snow gear but I don't know how much that will tell me anyways.

As for being sore the next day I planned a waterpark day weather permitting. Last year we went in Feb and had waterpark weather.

I thought it would be some walking without walking a ton if I am sore:confused3

I did the Princess last year with 3 girlfriends...first race for all of us! I never posted here but loved this board as I was so encouraged by all of you that I could really do it. I'm so excited to be going and doing it again this year!

We all finished -the 3 of them ran the whole thing and had done other races before. I, on the other hand, used it as "I'm almost 40, I should get off the couch, let's go to Disney World!" Although I wasn't really overweight, I started from the couch, having trouble walking more than a couple miles. I trained for almost 6 months but really kicked it in the last 9 weeks after Christmas. I did a run/walk program and finished the race in 2:48 which I'm really proud of. I'm saying this to encourage all of you that you can do this! Also, I wanted to say that if you train with at least 2 runs/walks over 10 miles, you should be able to function well after the race without terrible soreness. I was very fatigued, my legs were so tired---we went on Toy Story Mania 3 times that night and were tired getting to the top of the stairs!

I totally agree with those who say not to lay around ALL day. You definitely need to get up and move that day & the next...what better place than a Disney Park! Two of my friewnds who ran did go to the Braves game but it was at 1:00 and 80 degrees so they regretted it pretty quickly. A night game might not be as bad but sitting for 2-3 hours straight anytime in the 24 hours after the race might be a bad decision.

Just my thoughts...again, I've never posted but realized that I, like so many of you (THANKS!!), might actually have something helpful to contribute.

Can't wait to see you all in 8 weeks :yay:

My sister and I have signed up as a team and we are getting pretty excited. I do have a question for you, sorry if it has already been asked/answered.

We really want to submit a pace time so we can be in a higher corral. My issue is that I'm in Colorado and there are no official races to do until Feb. I saw the e-mail that we are supposed to submit our time, but what is the last day they will take them? I e-mailed them weeks ago with no answer so I was hoping someone here might have some experience.

Take the faster time evidence with you to the expo and they will put a sticker on you bib with your new start corall.
