Official thread for the 2010 Princess 1/2 Marathon & 5k- REGSITRATION IS OPEN!

There was ticketed party at DHS that night but a few people on here went and said they would not pay the extra money again. I have not read anything about a party this year.

They did post someplace that there WILL be a party again this year, however, i have to tell you -- if it will be anything like last year, i am definately skipping. Wasn't worth it - in my opinion. i would have been just as happy at the EMH at the MK instead. (Which was where the party was originally supposed to take place - as the Pirate and Princess Party -- which would have ROCKED, but they cancelled all of those.. :confused3  )

I'm training to do the Princess Half as a walk. I am currently in training for a 10 km walk (figured I should start somewhere) at my local Running Room/Walking Room. I was very encouraged that both of my clinic leaders did the WDW Half as a walk. They will also be the leaders of my half clinic which starts after my 10 km in October. I don't run. I'm very happy that it's possible to do the half as a walk without getting swept!!

I was actually on here to see if I could find information on getting to the event if you stay at a non-host hotel. I prefer Pop Century. I know I can't get transportation from there, but can we drive? Or can we drive to a host hotel and get transportation from there? I'm asking not just for me but for my mom who will be a spectator.

I haven't been able to go through all 35 pages to see if there is an answer!!

You can drive to Epcot for the start of the race, I did it this year.

Its official, I can take BABY STEPS to get back into running..........

I am only 2 months out from major neck reconstructions ACDF with Corpectomy. I had a vertabrea in my neck removed, and replaced with cadavor bone + a plate and 6 screws -- honestly not bad!

I just had my 2 month appt, and he said my neck is fusing and I can start running SLOWLY:banana:. only a 1/4 to 1/2 at most a day just to see how my neck holds up. With every two weeks adding only 1/4 mile for the next month - my next appt.

It is a small accomplishment, OH and my neck brace is OFF!! I have to wear my bone stimulator 18 hours a day but that is it!

Never give up, I didnt and even this surgery did not change my plans!!!:rotfl:

I am going to venture out this weekend!!! I figure I will do my normal 3 mile loop, and run when I can and walk when I can. Either way it will be great to just be all laced up and out there!!

baby steps here I come.............................................:woohoo:

UGAFan, I can't post attachments for some reason. If you PM me your email I can email it to you! Sorry I haven't been on this week so I'm late in replying to your message. I have whatever nasty bug is going around and so do my kids!! I haven't run all week and am going nuts but I'm hoping next week I can start fresh.

Swim-mom, that is AWESOME news. I am so excited for you. Take it easy on yourself and go slow! Let us know how it goes!

I'm sorry to hear that you've been sick. My sister had the same thing, and my goodness is it a nasty bug. I hope you and the kids are back to feeling better ASAP!!:wizard:

I'm sending you my e-mail address now. There's no rush-just whenever you feel like it. Thank you very much!

Well, it took a long time - BUT I finally worked up enough courage to start to run again.

Yesterday at 7pm (yes a bit dark here in NJ) I went out for my first walk/run attempt. My neuro only said 1/4 to 1/2 mile run, but I figured I would try and walk/run combo thing and see how I did. :confused3

I took my trusty IPOD W/NIKE+ on it and programmed it by time (45 min). I told my dh I would be back in 40 if not in the house by 45 COME AND FIND ME;)

So my old route is 3.1 miles, I figured I would just do my best with my whole combo thing going on. At 20 minutes, I was about 500 feet from my turn around point - so I just kept going. At 23 minutes I made it there!! Prior to surgery it would have been 16 min to get there. UGH

Needless to say, I continued to do my whole combo thing and my dh came out to look for me a bit early  ---- Sadly, I just ignored him even though I would loved a ride back

So long story short, I made it back to my house with 45:30 min for 3.1 miles. I figure it is a great starting point and my time can only get better from here :woohoo:

I am going to do my elip before I teach tonight, and have my aupair meeting. I figure I will do my lovely run/walk again on Wed & Fri.

Good news is no pain!!! a bit stiff and sore, but no pain :banana:

I WILL DO THIS!!!!:dance3:

Great news!! Just be sure to take it easy, don't overdue it in the beginning! Just b/c it doesn't "hurt" right away, doesn't mean to push it further.. LOL :) Glad to hear you are doing well though!

I'm joining in!!!

I have NEVER ran a marathon, and haven't ran a mile (minus playing tennis which was more sprints) since my sophmore year of high school which was almost 8 years ago. I am trying to lose weight and as an incintive DH said can do the Princess marathon. :woohoo::yay::dance3: I was in shock!!! Not only does it support luekemia and lymphoma (we are big into anything with american cancer society and this is the next big thing) but it's a reason to go to DISNEY WORLD!!! WOOT WOOT:banana::banana::banana: After looking at the website today I am debating on whether to do the 5k and shot for the half marathon next year, or if I should wait to register after I start getting my butt in gear. Right now I try to either walk 1 1/2 miles on my road or do 1hr long pilates video 3 or 4 times a week. So I am a LOOOOONG way from doing a 5k much less a half marathon. I will probubly be doing this on my own unless my mom decides to be daring (but I'm not counting on it, she's not a runner and she admits it, although she could probubly walk it as fast as I jog:idea:) Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated on getting started. I look forward to joining you all on this venture and hopefully meeting you in March!!!

Thanks so much for that info! I'm aware of Travelocity, but had no idea that the fare watcher even existed. I'll go check it out.

I totally agree about the drive. I don't know why but this past trip just seemed like it took forever to get down there and back!

By the way, you weren't affected any by the floods were you? My heart goes out to all those who were!

We ended up driving in August for my Birthday trip to WDW because we got a band of storms and my Dad wasn't comfortable flying, but I have driven from Arizona to WDW and that drive didn't feel as long as the one from Atlanta to WDW. I knew I would have fun when we finally got there, so that kept me going. I hope you find some good fares!

As far as the flooding, it was a bit scary for a while there but we weren't directly affected in my neighborhood or at work. There were some areas nearby affected, but we managed to escape it all. We live by Lake Allatoona and it gained over 8 feet in 24 hours and was only a few feet from flood stage and it kept raining. So, I was definitely hoping that it wouldn't get to that point where it would be running over the dam. Luckily, it didn't! :) But, all of our favorite trails are covered with water so training has been moved for now. We had some flooding on the interstate and some roads that were partially washed away, but it could have been so much worse. The good news is that they can't say we are in a drought anymore.

Thanks ;)

Hi, there!
I don't have any real advice for you, but I wanted to let you know that you're not alone. I'm pretty much a "beginner" too. I've just started back on the C25K training, so I'm not at the 5K level yet either. I think you could definitely make the Princess if you have time to do the training for it!!! I say go for it!!

UGAFan, I emailed you yesterday. Let me know if you didn't get my message!

Swim-mom, I am so happy you got out and had a good run/walk. Take it easy and don't overdo it! We have lots of time before March and we will all get there, slowly but surely! I am super excited for you!!

Leleluvsdis, congrats on deciding to do the Princess Half or 5k in March! I wanted to tell you there is plenty of time to train for whichever one you decide on. When I first found this thread I saw a lot of people mention they used the C25K (Couch to 5k) program to go from, well, sitting on the couch, to running 3.1 miles. I checked it out and it has been working for me so far (I had a baby three months ago so it has been a year since I have run so I have to get back into it slowly).

Once you can run three miles comfortably you can start any number of half marathon training programs that are readily available on the internet. You can google "C25k" and you will get the week by week plan to get ready for a 5k. Maybe you could do that plan and once you are running the 3.1 miles comfortably you can decide from there if you want to keep training for the half? You might surprise yourself! :)

Good luck and I hope to see you around on the boards! Amy
