I didn't see this here yet, so I thought I would post it.

And just what is the RP track...? Sorry my acronyms are a bit rusty! ;)

Welcome to the group (and the boards!), Julie! As others have said, you have plenty of time to train, and I figure what better motivator than a trip to WDW? :cool1:

On a side note - just wanted to share -- i joined Weight Watchers in March after i got back from the Princess, and just hit my 10% goal (which is 19 lb.s) - actually , i passed it - i am down 20lbs !!! I am so excited and feel so much better -- now i am shooting for the next 10lb mark - I hope to be 30-35lbs less for the 2010 race as i was for this years.

Congrats! :thumbsup2

hmmm.. that would be interesting about the course..

I mean, i guess they will have people upset at the course one way or another though -- there were people upset last year b/c the first course WASN'T going thru the castle, then after they changed it, there were lots of people upset b/c it WAS going thru the castle and it was the same course as the 1/2 that was in Jan. (Meaning the people who did both races).

Honestly, from MY personal point of view -- it was fun to go thru the castle, but i honestly like this first course -- seems you get to go thru alot more visual stuff (i.e. the parks), last time, the only park we went thru was MK with a SHORT stint at Epcot to finish -- I think this course if they switch back, will provide lots more interesting scenery... other than the long roads, which got old really quick. LOL

My vote is for going through MK. Since this is my first WDW non 5k race, I want to go through as many parks as possible :)

The first course went: RP, AK, HS, Epcot.
The secound: E, MK, E.

They might be able to change the first course so that it still goes through the castle, as I think that a Princess race should, but my concern is the RP, I have been on that race track and with those steep bankments I can see a lot of accidents.

Did anyone attend the "after" party? I read a post somewhere on the board where someone said it wasn't worth attending. Did any of you go and have opinions on it? It sounded like a hoot but then again, lots of things sound that way on paper :P I was just wondering if anyone had any thoughts to share.

I have signed up for the 1/2. I am very nervous I have only done a couple of 2 mile walks.

I am in week 2 of the couch to 5k and think I will check out the book from your recommendations.

Julie

Welcome! I'm nearing the end of the c25k program now (week 8 - Yah!!) and can testify that it works. At the begining of the program I could barely run those 60 sec. intervals without feeling like I was going to keel over any minute. Now I'm running 28 minutes, and not feeling overly tired at the end of them.

I'm still hoping to make it to the Princess this year, but it's going to come down to money. I'm hoping to find a roommate to help out with the room. I definitely want to be there though. :)

I think they could get more people if they change the course. The second course is just a rehash of the January half so a lot of people aren't doing Princess because they don't want to run the same course all over again. The first course they proposed last year is much more interesting, particularly in the latter part of the race when energy is lagging. You get AK, HS, BW, YC&BC, EPCOT. There are a lot more opportunities to have people out there cheering so it's not just dead road.

If they stick with the second course, you spend 5 miles on the roads going to MK, get about a mile in the park, then 5 miles on the road back and about 1 mile in EPCOT. It's mostly roads.

A course change MIGHT help sway me. MIGHT I said! Quit pushing me, woman! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

For us, it was worth it. To do TSM 5 times in one night, I would pay the money again. And my Dsis (age 40 not 4, that's a joke in case she reads this :)) was exctied to have pictures taken with a lot of the princesses in one place.

.

We didn't go thru Epcot twice for the second course.. remember? We started in the parking lot of epcot, and never entered the actual park til the very end. ;) So, really , our course was just MK and a bit of Epcot at the end.

Again, as much as i think a princess race should do the castle, believe me, it was LOTS of just boring / hot roads/pavement, with not much to see along the way.. i think even though the castle was great, the second course will allow for MUCH more scenery - and believe me, when it gets to about mile 11 and you are still on boring roads you would love to see something.

If i am correct, the course we did this year - going thru the castle was about mile 5/6 --- after that - we didn't see any parks until about mile 12 when we "entered" epcot, and ran around spaceship earth and back out. that was it.
Pretty boring.. lol.

Yup, that was me. I would NOT pay to go again. I would have rathered do the EMH that night at MK. There were only several attractions/rides open, so, yes, it was nice to ride the rides with no line -- but not for the amount of $$ the tickets cost. And the "goodie bags" were a joke. They were the leftover from the Pirate and Princess parties and included candy necklaces and ring pops. :rolleyes1
Unless they SERIOUSLY revamp it, i will not buy tix.
Although -- hanging out with lauren was priceless..

The AK, HS, E course is the back end of the marathon.....and people complain that it is too much road work!!!!!
My Dh did the marathon and he says that it is about 70% road work.
I don't think WDW will ever get a course that everyone likes, they have so many races (rumour of a new pirate 1/2) they are going to have to re use the same courses.
They also don't have to go through the hassel of getting the new course certified.

Oh I forgot to say that I'm boring ;).......I like the road work as the parks slow me down.

I do understand why people say the road work is boring, so don't :furious: me please.

I was wondering why the other events have training shirts you can purchase and the Princess Half did not so I contacted WDW sports. They responded (quite quickly I might add!) that they were still working on getting it finalized but a "Princess in Training" shirt would be up for sale soon. :yay:

Did they have these last year? Anyone know what they looked like?

I like the idea someone had about the Disney princess CD music to train too. I was just wondering...does the CD have only the slow songs or the more upbeat ones from the movies as well? (Gotta keep those feet moving!)

Wow, GO MICKEYMOM!!!! 5 miles in 1:10?? That's super fantastic! Congrats!!! I know I'll get there eventually but right now I can't comprehend 5 miles at a time :P

Ooooh, thanks for the info on the training shirts. I will definitely be getting myself one when they put them up for sale! Thanks for sharing!:thumbsup2

Julie

I'm on week 2 as well!! How are you doing with it? It's not easy for me, but I like this program a lot better than the Beginning Runner's Guide that I tried earlier in the year. It's nice to have someone else who's kinda on the same pace as me!

There was a bunch of Princesses? I TOTALLY missed that. I'm so annoyed with myself right now. How did that happen?? grrr

Although -- hanging out with lauren was priceless..

AWW *snif* Did you get your departing gift though? The pictures of the parks were nice. I'm supposed to be framing them for our Disney room. You know, what with all my free time.

No flames! We love you! I wish you could see yourself flying down the road. If I looked that cool, I wouldn't want any parks slowing me down either.

I wish they would consider starting the race in the MK parking lot and maybe finishing in the HS parking lot (via AK or EP). That would get the castle into the race (with less of a chance of getting swept before you get your castle picture). With that early of a start time, the could make the location work for the start, right?

Come on now Megan -- NO ONE here is getting swept!!! :wizard::cheer2::lmao:
