Official Star Wars Weekends 2014 Tips and Tricks

Hi! Just finished reading the thread and wow! Lots of great info..I was able to get H&V dinner reservations and Dtech booked. I am looking for some advice on the following since this is our first SWW. 1. We are staying at All Star Sports can we catch a bus by 630 to make it to rope drop? Or should we taxi? 2. Plan is to hit JDT with my daughter while hubbie beelines for Chewie 3. Parade sit and wait 4. Since we have H&V ADR, is it safe to skip the Disney characters line for pics? 5. Where can we quickly head from H&V to watch fireworks? Thanks everyone for the info!

When I booked our VIP I asked about character meets and Rob told me that there will be a pic after the shopping at Darth's Mall with the Fab 4 in the Star Wars gear and maybe a few other characters around too. It just doesn't include any of the people you get the wrist bands to see.

Hope that helps.

That would be awesome! I look forward to your report. We're not going for SWW this year but do have 2015 on the agenda and I would totally sign up for this even though it's spendy. I figure if we do this one day and dedicate the other to meeting characters we should be able to get everything done without too much effort (provided we have no weather event like we had in 2013).

Do any of you know if the Glow with the Show ears will work with the Symphony in the Stars?

Yes, the glow with show ears will work with the fireworks

You can check at the front desk at what time the first bus starts running but I would plan for a taxi just to be safe. Since that meal has the Disney characters in star wars costumes I would skip them and from H & V is just a few feet to Hollywood Blvd where you'll have the centered view of the fireworks

Where does this Stars of the Saga show take place? How far ahead do you suggest lining up for it (assuming it's open to everyone else that doesn't purchase this VIP package).

they are held in the premiere theatre. Crowd volumes vary depending on the show. The special guest shows draw the biggest crowds.
We did a few of them last year and I posted info in my link below under "darth maul meets willow - part II"

wow! a little sticker shock on the VIP pkg price. Can't wait to hear back from those who are going for it.
These SWW weekends are really growing in popularity! Wish we were going.
I love all the excitement on this thread and very jealous to miss out on seeing all the great headliners this year.

Have fun everyone!

Can someone tell me a little more about Glow with the Show? Is this hard to get? Cost? Buy them separately? Thx... :scratchin

They are sold in all parks, I bought them last year and they were $25 each. They interact with :
MK: Wishes, Holiday Wishes and Celebrate the Magic

DHS: Fantasmic!, Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights and now Symphony in the Stars

Need some help... Ds is just now getting into star wars. Our trip just happens to overlap the last sww by one day. We got the breakfast at sci-fi and think that will mostly satisfy him. She and are not into sw that much but am excited to take ds. Other than the breakfast characters he would absolutely love to meet r2d2. Can someone help me that has done this before? How do I get a fp for this? Will it be in mde? If not, can I book my three and then still get a fp for r2d2? Where will he be? Is he one of the most popular or could we do standby line? Any advice will be helpful.

You could read the first post on this thread. It has all the information you need about the event.
As of now there are no fp for any of the SWW events including character meet and greet.
Last year R2D2 met with Princess Leia, Luke and C3PO inside the merchandise tent behind RnRC. This year we are not sure where they will be. The group that I just mentioned rotates so you may start the line wanting to see R2D2 and when you make it to the front he has left and another character (let's say Luke) has taken his place.
I would suggest you keep an eye on this thread, since you're going during the last weekend there will be a lot more information on all the characters and where/when they meet.

We went last year & my son's favorite is R2-D2 as well. R2 was in the Darth Maul & like the previous poster said, he appeared with Luke. It took us several tries to line it up right to get at the front when R2 was there. Luke/R2 would swap out with Princess Leia every 20-30 minutes or so. The line snakes through a corner of the building so you'll likely be in line for a while. We paid close attention to how many people made it to 1 particular character & then we could judge the rotation based on that with our place in line. We had to keep going to the back of the line or swap places with a few people to get the timings right. It is worth it though. It is looks just like a real R2. He's even somewhat interactive. It is a very cool experience. Plan on spending at least an hour in line, but the good thing is it is inside so at least you aren't in the sun.

If your son is really into R2, then you might also want to go see R2-MK. This is the Disney version of R2 that appears with the Disney characters that are dressed up like SW characters. Again, very interactive & looks authentic. This guy is a riot, he 'drives' himself through the park to get to & from the photo location. It is a sight to see. R2-MK appears outside & towards the center of the park. He appears with Jedi Mickey. Again, there's a rotation here with characters, so timing is important, but worth it. Those were probably 2 of my son's favorite characters to meet.

This is a good report from last year...Some things are changing though
*Darth's Mall will now be between TSM and Backlot Tour and it has been announced by Disney (on the WDW site SWW event page) that Jedi Mickey, Stormtrooper Donald, Leia Minnie and Darth Goofy will appear inside Darth's Mall this year. No word on R2MK.
*They are still using the area behind RnRC (where Darth's Mall used to be) for something. Still don't know what...so it could very well be the same group of characters (Luke, Leia, R2D2 and C3PO) there or something else completely.

Good to note & watch for my 2015 trip. ;) Thanks!

Darth's Mall is inside Soundstage 1 near Backstage Tour - There is nothing going into RNRC Lot.

I thought the blog post announcing the D-Tech figures for this year said that experience was going in over near RnR?

Not sure what is going into the parking lot behind RnRC but it's blocked specifically for SWW starting May 1st, which is usually the time they would install the tent. It's a wait and see at the moment

No, it says inside Darth's Mall soundstage 1 between TSMM and Backlot Tour

Where exactly is Soundstage 1? I wish I had known this, my entire touring strategy revolved around Darth Maul being near RnR.
