Official Star Wars Half Marathon Weekend - The Dark Side 2017

@MissLiss279 - thank you - found it! I signed up for the 5K a few months after I signed up for the challenge - I just happened to check and couldn't believe it was still open, and I was just in one of those "what the heck" moods and clicked the register button! Glad I did especially with the medal upgrades for the 5Ks!

I am really starting to get excited, especially seeing all the SWCO photos on my Facebook feed! I wonder how much will be used at Dark Side? For instance, I'm pretty sure I saw the Jabba dais photo op that was in the pre/post race area for Dark Side last year and they also had the Rancor (which has been on display for SWW in the past), a TIE fighter, and an AT-AT. I mean, the stuff is already in Orlando mere days before... (crossing fingers, toes, etc.)

But I'm also nervous because I'm still piecing together my 10K costume (5K/half are done) and it involves armor which I've never made before nor run in, so I've got to get cracking so I can take it for a test run. Not full-body armor, just some shin/forearm pieces, but still. This time next week we'll be using the Force to get our race merch! Hooray!

ah man, I really wish I was in F now, my last race which was 2 weeks agon was a 15K, and I was running roughly with 13:43 pace, wonder how far up in F they we'll be, that's where I really want to be,

I'm sure you'll be fine. Your pace is well above you being in danger of being swept. If you want to stop for pictures, etc, be mindful of the time, but honestly the difference between F and G probably won't make that big of a difference in how your race goes. My plan is just to run my race and enjoy as much as I can!!

Only 4 more training runs for my plan (and given all the park walking I'll be doing, I may skip the Friday pre-race run)!! Wooooooo hooooooo!!!

Celebration looks so cool but man those crowds are huge. Oh if they had that rancor out that would be awesome, we had pics with it at the SWW that year, so cool! Can't wait to see the merch! Bet your armor will look awesome!

Yeah just 4 left here too! We fly Wednesday so won't run then or Thursday before the 5k on Friday. Last longish run of 8 today, so just 3-4 milers left for Friday, Sunday, Monday & Tuesday here. Ack, so close!

Bad pic that looks like a screen shot, but here is a glimpse at some of the merch for Dark Side. Can't wait for an actual link to the full offering!

Revealed at Star Wars Celebration today
I wonder if these will be the designs on the official event shirts. Except based on the medals, I feel like the 10K and half marathon should be reversed. Only a few more days until we find out (one week at the absolute most if they don't post a preview picture on social media before the expo opens).

And on another note, the speculation talk on Facebook is beginning again for what's going on with Light Side registration and what's going to happen with Dark Side. People are still thinking it's being cancelled. I just think it would be absolutely poor management on RunDisney's part if Dark Side is cancelled with no notice. It's something I feel like they would have mentioned if they wanted to sell out since I think people would have rushed to sign up if they knew they wouldn't have another chance to do Kessel Run.

Maybe there's some rebranding going on with Light Side, as they've done with the Disneyland Half and W&D, but I don't think it's anything major. They've already announced the dates for next year's Dark Side.

Those may well be the shirt designs. They tend to fit with their Light Side counterparts meaning sequel trilogy for the 10K, original trilogy for the Half. Kind of wish the Emperor himself was on the challenge design, but I like the Death Star on it.

If those are the shirt designs, I'll be very happy.

The only rebranding going on with Light Side appears to be changing Rebel to Resistance to better fit with the sequel trilogy. And if the corral numbers correspond to number of runners, I don't see runDisney canceling or rebranding a race that pulls in 20,000 runners. Especially when it's doing this one week after Star Wars Celebration Orlando and Easter, both of which could keep people away because they've already taken too much time off work.

Honestly I am surprised they didn't coincide the events. With all of the Star Wars people in town in would have made sense.

Unless they held the races in the days prior to Celebration beginning or the day after it concludes, it doesn't really work. Celebration starts at 8:00am every day. So they'd have to have the races on non weekend days, which may not work for as many runners. This timing is probably the most feasible they could do.

I guess but I think the majority of the major star wars fans aren't staying for the following weekend and the marathon event. Putting them together could get even more people to the races.

I just don't see them holding the races on a Monday through Wednesday though. I'm guessing that they have more major fans who stay another week to run Dark Side than major fans who would give up Celebration to run Dark Side. Having the two events the same weekend will mean that most fans will have to choose one or the other. It's extremely difficult to do both especially with Celebration ending Sunday afternoon.

I hope we don't miss out on having the 501st at Dark Side because they are all there this weekend for the Celebration :confused3

I bet the 501st will be there, I feel like I've read somewhere already someone saying they would be and they are a a member or their buddy is.

I like the looks of the merchandise!

I'm glad they didn't combine the Darkside half weekend with Celebration weekend because well it is Easter weekend. I think It would make your trip crazy hectic and you would miss stuff at one, & they would take away from each other. I'm sure enough people that really want to, are doing both though. Plus I would think Disney wants people staying in the parks on race weekends not heading to the Convention Center.

I wonder if they are waiting on Lightside registration till after the Last Jedi trailer shows up (today I think), so not to spoil something, I don't know.

Me, too! I was so sad Kylo was on the half medal so I would love Vader on the shirt.

For anyone interested in the pre race meet up for the half I will by the concessions and gear check tents. Where the red X is on the picture.

I'll be there from when the first bus drops off until they open corrals and will be wearing a DIS sign. Looking forward to putting faces to screen names :)
