Official Star Wars Half Marathon Weekend - The Dark Side 2017

So I went to the doctor who pretty much confirmed my suspicions that I have a stress fracture. He took xrays, but of course nothing showed up. He told me the only way for it to heal was to stay off it. I was like I have a two 10Ks and a half marathon next month. The doctor said I could try reducing my mileage by about 20% and see how it does. He said if it's still bothering me in two weeks to call and they'd get me in for an MRI. So frustrating. Even though I knew that's what it likely was I'm so discouraged as I felt undertrained for Light Side and really wanted to get myself back in the saddle and prepared for Dark Side and I feel like this derails the work I have done. :(
Oh no. :( Sending you healing vibes and hope you can get back out there soon.

6 weekends to go & maybe 4ish weeks till waivers/guide!!!!!!!!!!! I'm so glad Rogue One comes out before too, planning on a viewing of all the movies before we leave.
I can't wait!! Today is 7 weeks until half marathon day so the timeline of about 4 weeks until we see that info sounds about right. I'm so anxious for official course maps.

TNT has a marathon of all the movies going on today and Empire Strikes Back is on right now. It's getting me really excited!!

Less than 8 weeks to go! How is everyone's training going?

Yesterday I finished a run streak for the month of February, where I ran at least a mile every day. Ended the month with 61 miles for the month, which I think might be my most ever in a month. Did 10 miles on Monday and beat my 10-miler PR by 5 minutes. I decided before the run that I wanted to keep my miles around 12 minutes so that I didn't burn out too quickly. I ended up having to do a lot of walking to keep my miles between 11:30 and 11:45 instead, so I'm pretty amazed that I could have done it even quicker. Feeling good about my upcoming spring races!

Awesome. I was waiting to see what they had planned for Earth Day this year. Glad it will be all weekend because I was planning on AK for Friday.

I have found that I am in better shape when I spend a good amount of time just doing 1 and 2 mile speed work vs. say 5 mile runs mid-week.

I haven't been on a track in 20 years... I wouldn't know how to run on it now, it scares me:) I just use the 'flattest' stretch of road by me to do 'speed work'.

So over on some thread I just read there's hints of hopefully soft openings of Avatarland for at least DVC & AP starting April 22....

If it's like the soft openings of new Fantasyland back in 2012, they allowed non DVC/AP guests to experience the new attractions depending on how crowded it was. One evening, I got to experience everything in new Fantasyland during an AP preview. I decided to walk as far as I could until Disney stopped me and they never asked to check my wristband. The next afternoon they were allowing everyone to wander through the area, but only preview wristband holders were allowed to queue up for the attractions.

So, I have an AP and my brother's expired in Jan and he is just using a regular park ticket. I wonder if they'd let him in with me?

Heal up!

Oh no @lovingeire, hopefully it heals fast, maybe it's just very very minor, fingers crossed for you!

Hadn't even considered how close waivers/guides are!!! I'm excited to watch Rogue One again before going too - I really need to sit down and watch all of them because it's been a while since I saw some of them. Feel like I need to brush up a bit!

From what I saw, admission media did not matter one bit. The preview wristband mattered. An AP without the wristband meant you could not ride the attractions. The wristband made the difference. On the Wednesday evening before the 2012 Wine & Dine Half, the MK wasn't very crowded so they were letting anyone with a park ticket go to new Fantasyland. I did Enchanted Tales with Belle twice (once as a participant and once as a spectator), toured Be Our Guest (and learned how to get a reservation there during MVMCP), went on The Little Mermaid ride, and ate at Gaston's Tavern.

The next afternoon (Thursday), they were allowing all guests to walk around new Fantasyland, but without the wristband you could not go inside any of the attractions. The wristband was something you had to register for well in advance (weeks possibly?).

Honestly, I would not plan on getting to see Pandora during that time. Any regular guest access could depend entirely on being in the right place at the right time.

Does anyone have an ideas or options for getting out to a grocery store and/or Wal Mart on Thursday? DH and I are arriving early am on the 20th and wanted to visit said stores (after the expo of course), to pick up a few things we'll be needing and be back in time to meet up with DS and his GF when they arrive around 2 pm. Renting a car is so expensive for just a few hours of need, and I believe the minimum is 24 hrs which is unnecessary and difficult to make a return of the vehicle with the schedule of runs and fast passes.

Has anyone seen anything about the half course? I noticed that it starts on Floridian Way and that seems to indicate it will go through Magic Kingdom. That's really got my attention

A wristband sounds more like a media thing to me than AP preview. Or one of the parks blogs first however many people to email get to go. Anyways, I'm not planning on it and I really don't care very much, the only new land I am excited for is Star Wars! That one I am knocking people over to let me through :)

We won't know for sure for another 4 weeks.

You could look into one of the grocery delivery companies if that would meet your needs. I believe the one I've heard is called Garden Grover. They deliver to your resort.

Like above said not for about 4 weeks or when the event guide comes out. Seems the guide/corrals have been released about 3 weeks before the last few race weekends. I doubt it will go through MK. That would be a selling point for it and it's not sold out yet so one would think they would mention MK to sell more. I think (as others I've read think too) it will start at TTC area and head to AK, a bit of Studios through Boardwalk area and into EPCOT. This I like as then we won't have those on ramp inclines like the end of the Jan/Princess/16 wine&dine half course as those suck & I don't mind hills, but those banked inclined ramps are rough near the end.

But will they have Spaceship Earth as the Deathstar is the real question...

If the course goes from AK to DHS, there will still be a ramp with an incline. I would think they'd use the old marathon course out and back on Osceola and the ramp from there onto World Drive, if they bring the course through AK.

I just don't remember any of those being as bad as that half one, but then my memory probably is foggy.

Yeah a lot are thinking it will be like the 2nd half of the marathon minus WWOS.

Looks like I will be around for a dis meet after all! Maybe I will have better luck this time. :-)

Welcome back to the dark side! Would you and your daughter like to join us this time around for our DIS dinner on Saturday at Il Mulino (Swan Hotel) at 5:00pm? We still have seats available.

Thanks! We would love to. I'm still waiting for verification on our rooms, but I have the race registrations and flights done.

If I had a non runDisney trip planned for Star Wars Land opening and they delayed it, I would delay the trip until it was open.

Can any of you runDisney experts answer this? I just did the race registration for my DD and I this morning. We are past the deadline for POT, and my DD doesn't have a race that she can enter for POT anyway. I entered our projected time as just past the requirement for POT, 2:45-3:00, I think it is. I'm hoping to avoid being in the last corral if possible. Does anyone know how they do the seeding for the back corrals? I've never done a runDisney half without a POT.
