Official Star Wars Half Marathon Weekend - The Dark Side 2017

I think they always have something for Earth Day at AK as my parents usually go this time, but another thing that will go on during our Darkside time--

"We also have some thrilling news for you today! While we love celebrating Earth Day on April 22, we will be partying for the planet all weekend this year! Join us at Disney’s Animal Kingdom April 21-23 for unique, inspiring and educational encounters throughout the park during Party for the Planet presented by Disneynature.

We’ll be sharing more specific details about these engaging in-park offerings as we get closer to this exciting weekend. Until then, we invite you to take a look back at last year’s Party for the Planet presented by Disneynature!"

And of course I'll be at DAK on Wednesday!

Less than 8 weeks to go! How is everyone's training going?

My left foot has really been bothering me. It was kind of nagging since Light Side, but after my run on Saturday it really hurt so I've been resting it. I have been trying to stick to my training for Dark Side so this is really frustrating for me. I got to the doctor tomorrow morning so we'll see what they have to say.

I've only bought my mom cheat squad for Princess before, which obviously has a different set up, but from what I remember, it is come or go as you please.[/QUOT
Awesome! Thank you! I just can't see waking her up if it's not necessary. However, if she wishes to that's on her, and I think I've read where there will so method of transportation to the finish line. It wouldn't make sense not to after getting up and seeing your runner off that one can't see them finish as well.

Had an awesome 13.1 training run this past Saturday (PRd my half time). Too bad it wasn't in an actual race. I've got a half coming up at the End of March that I'm training for too, so I've been pushing harder and harder on my long runs in hopes of a PR before the weather gets too warm in Mississippi. The ultimate goal is to break 2:05 and the miracle would be sub 2:00. Realistic goal is around 2:03...we shall see. Mississippi weather can be quite funny this time of the year.

Yesterday I finished a run streak for the month of February, where I ran at least a mile every day. Ended the month with 61 miles for the month, which I think might be my most ever in a month. Did 10 miles on Monday and beat my 10-miler PR by 5 minutes. I decided before the run that I wanted to keep my miles around 12 minutes so that I didn't burn out too quickly. I ended up having to do a lot of walking to keep my miles between 11:30 and 11:45 instead, so I'm pretty amazed that I could have done it even quicker. Feeling good about my upcoming spring races!

Awesome. I was waiting to see what they had planned for Earth Day this year. Glad it will be all weekend because I was planning on AK for Friday.

Congrats on your streak!

Technically not training for this. Have a half a couple weeks later that I'm training for and that's going well. I talked my coach into letting me fit this in as a "fun" run. :)

Congrats on your run streak!

It's going pretty well, my plantar fasciatis left foot flared up, it was doing so good too, but it's tolerable. My hip is doing well too, still sleeping on my opposite side to keep it happy, finally seems more normal to sleep that way! Today was butt windy so I only did 2 but was 'breaking in' a new pair of shoes to be my main ones for Darkside, but last week I had like 30 miles so I'm happy with wear my miles are at & should be around 30 this week. Warm weather is supposed to come back too!!!

Argh! Why are feet so picky & troublesome? Hopefully your pain isn't anything major, maybe you need a good deep massage!

My goal is to break 2 (as my older self) at Darkside, we'll see though, I was 2:01:4?? at Wine & Dine, so I get how that 2 hour is just so close & daunting! You'll get there!

Thanks!! I keep shaving off a minute or two every year so hopefully I'll get there!! My PR right now is 2:05:01 but I never trained to push my runs any faster which I'm doing now, so hoping that will help. I need to throw some track back into my routine but it's tough in the winter because of minimal daylight.

I haven't been on a track in 20 years... I wouldn't know how to run on it now, it scares me:) I just use the 'flattest' stretch of road by me to do 'speed work'.

So over on some thread I just read there's hints of hopefully soft openings of Avatarland for at least DVC & AP starting April 22....

Just came to share that quote, @cavepig !

got a really interesting update yesterday. The projected beginning date for DVC and passholder previews is 22 April. Obviously things can change in the seven weeks between now and then, but that's what's being projected at the moment.

I think it's clear that somewhere in that period the intent will be to have a full-on soft opening, since opening an entire new area - as opposed to a single attraction - means they'll really want to get a feel for crowd patterns, bottlenecks, areas where kids might reach out and touch more than expected, and the like.

Between 4/22 and 5/27, there are several days of planned closures - no specific dates, sorry - but it sounds like the desire is to have the place open a lot so that the official opening goes smoothly.

It's really gonna happen, guys, we thought it was all just bluster and nothing happening, but those gates are almost ready to open after almost six years!

(I'd like to edit my thread title, but I can't remember how to do that . . . )

If it's like the soft openings of new Fantasyland back in 2012, they allowed non DVC/AP guests to experience the new attractions depending on how crowded it was. One evening, I got to experience everything in new Fantasyland during an AP preview. I decided to walk as far as I could until Disney stopped me and they never asked to check my wristband. The next afternoon they were allowing everyone to wander through the area, but only preview wristband holders were allowed to queue up for the attractions.

Slacker me finally bought my flights for the weekend. I've got to be better about buying them earlier when flights are cheaper! But either way I now have a way to get to Disney, which is just a little important, and Magical Express is all set up!
I am probably getting tickets today. The price went down for us. I hate buying airline tickets - I always feel like I've missed the best deal.

Here's to procrastinating :)!

So your post had me go check the pricing on Southwest and my return flight went down $20. Seriously???? That is so my luck. I think you can adjust it for a credit on Southwest so I need to figure that out. I should have procrastinated more! :rotfl2:
