Official Star Wars Half Marathon Weekend - The Dark Side 2017

So here's a question for everyone. I'm doing the 5k with significant other on Friday, and want him to feel awesome accomplishing this at his 59 years of age. (His first) Would it be ok to try and get him to wear his medal in the park that day or is that something just marathoners and Challenge runners do on Sat/Sun? I know he won't unless I do with him, but I don't want to step on toes with the longer distance runners?

Everyone wears medals no matter the distance!! All races are celebrated and the CMs will congratulate ALL runners!!

Wear the medal! I plan to wear the medal/5k shirt on Friday, 10k combo Saturday, challenge combo Sunday and the half shirt on the plane Monday (because non-runners don't under the challenge but will respect a half marathon distance as the reason I'm walking funny!).

YOU GUYS.

Ditto what the others said. Wear the medal proudly!!

Most definitely wear the medal! Everyone and every race are celebrated and congratulated!

Also a massive thumbs up to your SO, my mams just signed up to the 5k at marathon weekend 2018 (at 60) and she's pretty nervous already!!

Thumbs up back at her! I think its awesome! SO is nervous as well and thinks he might have to walk a generous portion. I told him it's not the actual running that's important, but the just fact that he is moving! I also tell him that the same thing will probably happen to me in the half. I know I'm going to run out of steam and will have to walk a little to recoop, but intend to just keep moving forward. Pride and the fact my DS is out there with me won't allow me give up. LOL

Like everyone else said wear the 5k medal. Lots do! We'll be wearing ours and our 5k shirts. People wear the 5k or 10k or whatever medals even days after the race, they make for great photo ops!

Super jealous of everyone on-site getting to make their FastPass selections already! We're staying off-site so have to wait until 30 days out, but I'm hoping I can still get what we want. It looks like the only rides that run-out are SDMT and Frozen. We'll try to make SDMT work, but no biggy if we miss Frozen this time. It's adults and a 1 year old who has no idea what Frozen is, hahaha.
Baby swap 7DMT! Best thing you can do.

Yay for walking a 5k wish I had thought of walking a 5k maybe i would actually stop for pictures then. Although this time I plan to dress in costume for the 10k and be in earlier corral so I might stop for pics. I think afterwards part of the fun is going and getting pics in front of the castle with the medal. So definitely make sure you go around doing that. Might get some attitude but the pictures after will be some great memories for you two.

Reservations are now open for the new character breakfast at Trattoria Al Forno at Boardwalk. Had been planning on booking that for after the 5K for a few months so I look forward to trying it out. Hopefully they don't change the menu too much even though it will be going to a fixed price.

Absolutely wear it. Honestly running any distance race is an accomplishment, especially in the heat. I wear my 5k shirts around, it's really not that different.

WEAR IT!! Be proud! No question! You'll see lots of other people wearing their 5k as well. In fact, I cannot understand the people who DON'T wear theirs to the parks! We can't really wear them out when we get home, so enjoy it while you can, for as long as you can. (If you're staying longer, don't worry about wearing it over the weekend, either. Like I said, you'll see them everywhere.)

EDIT: I saw you are doing the challenge... Make sure he wears his all weekend, too, so you'll both have your medals for all your park pictures!

Thanks for sharing! I made an ADR in case we decide to do this. It depends on what changes are made to menu/pricing.

Will do! Thanks to everyone who replied, I feel better knowing he and I won't be infringing on something the longer distance runners have a claim on. I'm excited for him and want him to have a good experience and "a moment" to enjoy what he accomplished. But here's a thought how does one manage the medals on rides?
