I have a few questions, they may be addressed somewhere else, but this thread is sooo long. Does anyone have pictures of the rooms now that it has been renovated? The website allears.net seems to have old pictures prior to the renovation. My son has peanut allergies and they are very willing to work with me in the parks but what about the places to eat at the SOG? Also we will be going from 18 OCt - 26 Oct and I was wondering about the pools there will they be open and lastly is one room big enough for a family of five (children aged 11, 9 & 4) We went about 12 years ago but that was before kids and I really don't remember how big the room was? Thanks.

Go to the SOG website and it has pictures of the rooms. They are quite large (480 square feet, I believe). There are 2 queen size beds and the couch opens up for a fifth person so you should have plenty of room.

Yes the pools are open year round.

As Al said, no to Disney meal plans.

The restaurants should be able to work with you.

Your best information would come from contacting SOG directly, by e-mail or phone call with any specific requests. You can even find out about any renovations (pool, whatever) that might be happening during your stay.

Looking at the first row of pictures, these are the rooms in the new wing.

Row 2 first picture shows the sink area of what I assume is the new wing. Never been in the new wing, but this does not look like the old section . There is definitely a picture of the old section double sink on Allears.

Row 2 other pictures are the old wing rooms. As you can see, the difference is of course, the furniture and the bedspreads. One big difference, that I personally prefer, is the partial wall partitions between the beds and the table/chairs and pull out couch. It gives the room the slight appearance of a suite.

Row 3 first picture is the view of the old section table/chairs and pull out couch cannot be seen opposite the table.

Row 3 other pictures.......This is a view of the handicapped bathroom in what I know to at least be the old section. The difference is handicapped rooms have sink/toilet and tub in one big room. Notice the sink is a single sink with little counter space. In the non-handicapped rooms, the tub/toilet is in one tiny room and outside that room is a double sink with large counterspace similar to the picture in row 2.

Be aware that the rooms in the old section were never "renovated". They still have the same drapes/bedspreads and furniture they always had. The new wing has new stuff because, well, the entire wing is new.

We have always stayed in the old section, we like to be closer to the pool, but I have to say they are looking a little run down - especially the bathrooms.

Maybe next time we will try the newer section.

I know my last time there was 2006, but I have never heard of a "green card". We always just showed our resort IDs (room key). Is the green card a recent thing?

I think so. We were there this Spring and we got one green colored card which we had to show at the EMH. It was good for everyone in that room.

When we were there at Magic Kingdom for the late hours, we just had to show our room key. We didn't get any green card

Perhaps the "green card" was one of those short lived experiments designed to thwart abusers and thoroughly confuse users. Could be a whole new system by the time we get there.

Yep, that's the sink area of the new section. We've only stayed in the new section. I think we get it because 1. we don't have kids and don't need to be close to pools and 2. we have a car.

I'm hoping that we get that section again 'cause I like it.

Sleepy, never a problem when someone can add to or clarify one of my posts. I take pictures of our rooms, but I never post pictures on the Dis! I haven't stayed in the old section since the new part opened. My DD loves the new section for some reason, and I like not having to walk so far for the car on the last day. I do miss the little wall in the old rooms.

It seems like with all the work they did on the new part, that they would have freshed up the older section. Something else I was wondering about, I know the table isn't huge, but I have only had two chairs in any room. Anyone else had more without having to drag the patio furniture inside?

We were just there 2 weeks ago and they still were giving out the green card for EMH!

We just stayed in the older section and had 4 chairs in the room. One of them didn't match the other 3!

Minnie Lor - When you make a reservation you can request what section you want. We have always requested the older section because it is close to the pool and we have 1 DS. They have always honored our request.

We were just there last week and didn't get a "green card" - and we didn't pay for parking in the parks.

That is correct. In the old section, if your double sink is in a room separate from the tub/toilet, it means it is a non-handicapped room.

KatRob- I have only gotten 2 chairs in my rooms. We are a family of 3, so what we always did was drag the table and chairs over to one of the beds and use the bed as a third chair.

I know some of the rooms we had in the old section had both types of bathrooms. I hated the room where everything was together, but it had a great view of the Mill Pond. If it was a handicapped room we didn't ask for it and I didn't notice any of the other features that the pictures showed. Could have been and I just didn't pay attention...I'm just always so glad to be back there I take just about whatever they give me.

I know that the resort is non-smoking. (I'm not a smoker and LOVE this.) However, my sister is also staying at SOG and is a smoker. Is she permitted to smoke on her balcony, or any other designated area? Or is it a total no smoking anywhere policy? Thanks!

Smoking is permitted on the patios and balconies of the rooms. There are ashtrays on the patio tables. The deck off the lobby is also a designated smoking area, as well as the bus stop. We noticed smokers were very respectful of the rules at SOG, unlike in the parks and at other Disney resorts.

Thanks for double checking. When we were there last summer, the bus stop was the area where we noticed the most smokers. It does get very crowded and kids are active, so it was probably an accident waiting to happen. Glad they changed it. It kind of bothered me.
