Official Poly construction update thread **updated video page 103(2/17/15)**

I cannot understand this water bungalow idea. Having a room over water seems like the worst of the worst idea! What abut hurricanes and the huge rainfalls??
Mold ?

Safety?
It looks like those things will be above the water!

Someone say its not so?

Looks like a folly!

Unfortunately it is true. They have 20 of them in the plans. Whether they will all be built is still up in the air. I agree with you that it is not a good idea. That water also has a lot of bacteria in it which is why they don't want people swimming in it. Not that it is headed because we saw a mom let her daughter swim around in the water before Wishes when we were there. I said something about the bacteria loud enough for her to hear and she just looked at me. We just had a 12 year old die here from a brain eating parasite due to being in water that had bacteria. I just don't see it being a safe or wise idea because of the impact on the views also.

I'm not sure if I like the idea of a water bungalow or not yet, I will wait until I get to see one to pass judgment. I don't see it being anymore unsafe then say the boardwalk, or any of the beaches. The bungalows will be built to code and there won't be any way to "accidentally" end up in the water. If anything the bungalows would shrink the amount of beach area at the poly, making it harder for parents to let there kids play in the water.

An adult ending up in the water probably not but with kids there may be that problem. They will have railings but kids love railings LOL. There will still be room between the beach and the bungalows so there will still be the problem with parents allowing their kids in the water. It just surprises me they don't pay attention to the signs. Except for the movement from the boats going in and out that water is stagnant. Now mold may be an issue because they are right above the water in the water. They will have to watch that closely. The longhouses are set back enough from the beaches that it is not so much an issue. They also still do get some mold too.

You are not alone in this thinking. Time will tell. I tend to agree with you, eww, that water is yuck.

Seems like matinance will be a nightmare on these things.

You must live close to me if you were near that boy who died. Where are you in Florida?

I am in Coconut Creek. It was all over our news and I subbed to the Facebook page. I was so sad when I found out he had passed away.

I live in clewiston. I have mixed feelings over the whole thing, but that is just me. I am just tired of the brainwashing over it. My bil and his family live in labelle. The GF has told her son he can't get wet or play in the rain or he will die.

Yikes that is taking it a bit far. We have always told our kids not to play in standing water. Not talking about puddles but ankle deep and higher. I have always heard that it breeds bacteria and that is why I tried to keep my kids out of it. They still played in the rain and splashed in puddles. That is just part of being a kid. I feel bad that she is scaring the little guy like that.

I am also guilty. There was a bird stuck in some bushes growing next to Tuvalu (left side) where the water is. He kept trying to get free but couldnt get out of the vines at water edge. I watched for a good five minutes and then I walked in and got him. He was so tired. I got a towel and wrapped him up and held him for a while so he could rest. After about 15 minutes I set him free and he flew away.

Was it a smart idea? No. But I only went in up to my knee's and I washed off after I set him free. I couldn't sit there and watch him die. A lady and her daughter thanked me she said she asked staff for help but no one showed up.

People always overreact when it is near them. I just feel bad for the little guy because he kept telling my daughter I can't play I can't get sick. We live on a farm, my kids can play in the rain puddles and water out of the hose. I know to keep them out of the ditches here, common sense IMO. Hopefully this all goes away soon and kids can be kids again

I don't fault you at all for what you did. In fact I applaud you. What you did though and what I see parents allowing their children to do is different. You went up to your knees and washed off afterward and I am sure didn't touch your face if you got your hands in the water. What I see parents allowing is their kids to actually swim in the water or sit in the water and splash. This can allow the bacteria to enter through the nose, eyes, mouth, or ears and make the little one very very ill. I am happy to hear that little bird was fine after you helped him. Makes me sad though to hear that the staff wouldn't come help.

Oh so nice to hear this story! I would have thanked you too if I were there!

I really don't know how dangerous the water in Seven Seas Lagoon is in general. I have a picture from 10 years ago where my Dad and I were hip deep in the water off the beach taking out a little sailboat we rented from the Poly. Somewhere in that lake I even fell out of the boat!

I have even water skied on bay lake some years ago. Do they even allow that anymore?

Point is, even the beaches were closed at that time yet these other activities were considered safe. Maybe things have become worse since then, just saying I doubt the water is an extreme health hazard and the water bungalows should be safe from that perspective.

However, I still don't want them built. :-) also, wouldn't there be a big chance of litter (accidental or intentional) going into the water by the bungalows? I can see a lot if toys and stuffed animals, plastic bottles, cigarette butts, etc. falling off, blowing off, tossed in, etc. at least on land these things can be retrieved or cleaned up.

I did tell the little girl we only go in the water for emergency's! haha I dont know why no one would helped, they seemed sorta clueless :/

Honestly I've swam in dirtier water then that when I was a kid too.

I am worried about the over all clutter of all of this. I like the current views and sometimes enough is enough.

Here now and while I walked around the property today while doing wash I couldn't see any signs of construction. Heard a little bit from the gf but that was only because it was so quiet here at the poly. Not anything I wouldn't hear at home if someone was doing a little diy work.

I have read that permits were filed yesterday for underground utilities and work on a wooden boardwalk, if it is on schedule there should be signs of something next Monday.

I did notice today that there are blue flags in the grassy areas next to our building. Probably marking underground pipes.

Disney tends to build railing to a point that kids can't really go over them alone.

When it comes to kids playing in the water next to the bungalows,,, well that comes down to parenting and would happen regardless of if the bungalows are built or not.

The buildings are going to be on concrete supports and no part of the building will be in or on the water. Think of the tree house villas but over water. Being in Florida water and rain is expected so mold will be no more of an issue then any other building. Maybe you would get some moss and such around the supports but I don't see it being an issue.

I'm sure lots of people are, and will be upset about these buildings.... but I'm also sure lots of people will love them and it will most likely be one of the fastest selling dvc resorts to date.

Should be fun to watch them go up, lol.

They thought that at AKL but a kid just fell three stories from one of their balconies. If a kid wants to bad enough they will find a way to climb. Parents are going to have to be diligent.

There have been papers filled for the permits for gch construction. Will try to post them here if I can. No start dates on the paperwork .
