Official Poly construction update thread **updated video page 103(2/17/15)**

We got our letter today. We'd been booked for Hawaii TPV the week of December 9. The letter (same as the one on Tikiman site) said that Sand Point and beach in front of Hawaii would be blocked. Looking at Tikiman's description of the construction, we decided to make a change.

DH just called reservations and switched us to Atrium Club at CR.

We love the Poly, especially the TPV from Hawaii building. The quiet during the afternoons in comparison to the theme parks has always been refreshing. We'll see what's left of that when the water bungalows are finished. Meanwhile, we couldn't see paying top dollar to look at fencing and hear construction noise.

Glad to hear that you were given the information you needed to make a decision in a timely manner, I agree about the relaxing atmosphere, ahhhh. I hope you enjoy Cr.

Damn, that really sucks. There goes our California Grill reservations.

Starting to get pretty frustrated with the Polynesian...

Sorry :( Our kids are scheduled to go there two nights during our December trip while we go to Cali Grill and Citricos...of course now I'm wondering what condition its in if they have to close it for 3 months for a rehab!!!

It is still great and will be until they close for rehab. My kids love the Neverland club and we have used them several times in the past five years. Place still looks great, has all the amenities, and a fabulous staff! Don't worry, it's not like they are keeping it open while it looks like something out of a Hoarders episode ;)

Without paging through tons of posts to find the answers can anyone tell me if the main pool will be open Oct-13 to the 20th? I received a letter on the beach and Sunset Point having issues then but nothing of the pool. Thanks!

I'm there about that same time and received the letter everyone seems to be getting. It specifically states that the pools, shopping, and dining WILL be open. You can check Tikimans site for a copy of the letter but it should be the same as yours. If not, let us know!

Ugh... just got our letter. We will be there Oct 4-12 and I was super excited to upgrade to a TPV this trip. Really hoping it's not a construction view.

Just got my construction letter in the mail 9 days before my vacation! Pretty upset, I am there 9/14-9/21 and you just notified me!

Poly Vacation 9/14-9/21!!!!!

That's not right. Obviously this has been in the works for a while. You should have been told sooner.

I am staying TPV Club level September 11th. I was told my view would not be an issue. Only noise. :lmao: Not that is funny but I was told by the IPO that the noise would be during the day. And as far as they now for now no wall etc until later in the fall or 2014. I am only staying one night. I never was told anything nor receive a letter. I have the CM's name along with the manager who called me saying my view would not be affected.

Now this doesn't mean I am being told the full truth only until I am there I will know. Just my two cents.

Everyone is paying quite a lot for the Poly & I think Disney owe it the guests to let them know & then decide what to do. again my two cents ,,

That is frustrating, I have read here people being informed by mail last week for trip in December, I hope you have a great trip no matter what! Be sure to update us here. Seems like if we don't inform each other no one will.:rolleyes1

Noise during the day is exactly what we're trying to avoid with LOs. :(

I'd like to stay on the monorail line for convenience, but I just don't see us enjoying the CR for the price. It looks theme-less and cold. Like I'm paying $600/nt for the Westin.

Are you staying CL? If not what about requesting Fiji? It is across the resort from the construction.

Thought about that but 2 problems: no guarantee on requests and now we know the pool may be under construction- isn't the pool across the marina from Fiji?

Yes it is. When are you going? I know when they do online check in they try their hardest to get you what you chose.

Jan 9, marathon weekend. I've heard mixed feelings on online check-in, but will consider it.

The pool if it does go down wont be closed until Feb so you are safe in Jan. We are hearing two different things on it, Feb and not at all. I have read posts from those that have done online checking and pretty much everyone has gotten what they have asked for. There were a couple that did get different longhouses than they asked for. I did online check in for our stay at POP in October. I will let you know how that goes when we check in Oct. 4th.

I kinda feel the same way about cr, but if I have to I will do it.

I remember in 2007 we stayed at the Poly and they were doing the room refurb in the same longhouse we were in and RIGHT ABOVE our room! But a quick call and they stopped construction while our kids napped (construction truly was only during the day hours). Of course, now they close the whole longhouse, so that's nice :thumbsup2

I've traveled quite a bit (ok, a ridiculous amount) and never has a hotel notified me proactively that they would have construction during my stay so I am quite pleased that the Poly is sending the letters out at all. Luckily, the Poly will do everything to keep guests happy with what they can work with and if that means you get there and need to move rooms, or even resorts, they will do what they can to make that happen. It is nice that we have some warning (thank you TIKIMAN!!!) and that the letters have gone out too.

Refurbs and updates are needed and sometimes resorts update their properties to keep things changing and of course, generating revenue but inevitably, someone will be inconvenienced because it is the time they have their vacation set.

Thank GOODNESS they are making changes though because DH will not come to Disney if things don't change. He gets so bored - same old thing...again... That's not my view, but everyone is different. If I want to go to Disney and they have something new, he is more apt to agree ;)

I'd love to see a bigger pool, different dining options, and definitely larger rooms because I'm too old to share a room with my kids :lmao: I am really hoping they put in some 1 bdr and 2 bdr villas :cheer2:

Ok, do I need to :duck: now??

Nope you don't. When we stayed at Portofino Bay they were going through construction. We were not told and it was loud and ugly. They put up decorated canvas which only partially blocked the view, was not even nicely put up and didn't even remotely block any noise. At least Disney will try to minimize inconvenience, noise and they will try to make it look as nice as possible. Our Poly will change but hopefully for the better. We can only hope they look at the plans again and see what we see about Hawaii and maybe change their thinking on that. We have to see that it could have possibly been worse had they gone with the original plan of two five story buildings. There would not have been a spot in the resort that would have been free from construction and noise. They have to fix the GCH it has asbestos in it. I am sad that we may lose the water element but I can imagine they will do something nice in there. I am hoping with the pool that they redo the volcano instead of totally getting rid of it. We also stand the chance of getting a hot tub which has been a major bugaboo with people about staying there. I am not a fan of change but it has to be and at least for me I am just going to try and roll with the punches and still stay at my home away from home.

I cannot understand this water bungalow idea. Having a room over water seems like the worst of the worst idea! What abut hurricanes and the huge rainfalls??
Mold ?

Safety?
It looks like those things will be above the water!

Someone say its not so?

Looks like a folly!
