Official Poly construction update thread **updated video page 103(2/17/15)**

Tim, I think what people mean by ruining the view from Hawaii is that the farthest west bungalow (#1) is in line with the castle and just about the last room in Hawaii on the first floor (see attached photo) . That is why the first floor rooms were re-categorized as garden view. There is no longer a Theme Park view room on the first floor because the bungalows are in direct line with the castle. A few of the rooms that can see the castle a little between roof lines are not lagoon view but all except 8 rooms on the first floor of Hawaii were changed to garden view on the lagoon side. I agree that the views from the 2nd and the 3rd floor still have a great view of the castle and fireworks but some don’t like the view now because the see bungalows instead of beach and water. That is really something that is based on different opinions.

With that said I agree with Tim that when they are done with the area between the bungalows and the longhouses and have added the new paths, sand areas and foliage it will be a very nice area. I wish I could share the renderings of what it will look like when completed but I have not been given the green light to do that yet.

By the way Tim has taken some awesome photos all around the resort that I have been posting on my Facebook and will soon be adding to my web pages for all to enjoy.

"And what 'deeply' discounted rates do you speak of? Who pays rack anyway? So you got 30%? Did you get 35%…? I wouldn't call them deeply discounted rates..those are standard offers year round by booking ahead."

I consider 52% a deeply discounted rate.

Oh and I have paid rack rate for the Free Dining Plan.

Thanks for the clarification Steve!

I found the view of lagoon side pretty, but you do see fences and not the same experience as previous trips.

People have to choose for themselves. Some of us love the Poly no matter what:lovestruc

Also Tim thanks for taking time to post Pics! I enjoy getting to see progress from all you posters.:flower3:

Steve, thanks for posting this image. I think it will clarify the new Hawaii room classifications and views for a lot of people. :)

I updated my floor plan on my Hawaii page to show the new room categories. It will be the first time in the history of the resort that a garden view room ever faced the lagoon.

Thanks, I'll go check it out. :)

You know, none of the changes at the Polynesian really bother me; I know we'll still love it. :flower3:

However, the bungalows obscuring the views from the ground floor of the Hawaii building is something that I wish they weren't doing. I wish they hadn't extended them that far over. :scratchin

Your post is dated October 5th. The unmentionable agency that has the convention group rate in late August tru labor Day this past September and in 2015 is the only 50+ % rate off the Poly I am aware of.
Yes I too 'consider 52% a deeply discounted rate"..Your post suggests that that is what you are paying now while you are at the Poly.
I am sure I am not alone in wondering how you managed that. Since you felt the need to tell us all how deeply discounted you are would you care to SHARE that with the rest of us as to how we can get such a rate outside of the unmentionable agency's annual special? Thank you.

Thanks for clarifying that Tikiman. Yes view destruction is subjective. And the above drawing doesn't quite capture the location of the bungalows exactly..from my observation recently on site.. the drawing above shows the huts too far to the club level lounge area.. they are not that far west.. which the graphic suggests…

I guess what I'm trying to say is that from the ferry to Tahiti, to across sunset point, to in front of Tokelo and right up to the west of Hawaii they basically did in fact in my opinion hack the view by and large…they stopped with the bungaloization
about a quater in front of east Hawaii…somebody in charge musta said "enough already"!! And so you can still be on the beach in front of much of Hawaaii and the main pool area and see the castle etc. fine. Just want people to know that they can still enjoy those perks from CL except the ground floor... now garden category.
As always thanks to Tikiman for getting all this info out to us…otherwise we'd pretty much be in the dark as to the progress and details of construction, plans, renderings and future transformation still in the works.
Tim

It IS with that Agency that we are not to mention...

They had a Fall offering in both September & early October, as well as a Jersey week special the first week in Nov and both an Early December and Christmas week offer. All at deeply discounted rates. (not 30 or 35%)

The also have a pair of offers for February 2015. You just have to email & ask for info/quotes.

hello!

I just booked a garden view club level room for the first week of February. Will I be disappointed with construction? Not sure if I should switch to a different resort? Thanks for any advice. :thumbsup2

Not much will be done by February from what I can tell from the construction schedule.

52% off??!! Holy smokes! I would stay there even without use of the pool for that price! Heck, I might stay a month...

Then you will have to go August 17 to September 7 , 2015 to get that convention rate from an unmentionable agency.
The poster is not getting that rate now thought seems to claim that they are as the post says they are there now October 5th well past the exclusive rate offer.

I am friends with the unmentionable agency and their Early November and other offers are NOT at anywhere near 50% off. Sorry. The February offer is $449 a night during valentines day when its like $600 something. And Jersey week as well is not anywhere near 52% like the above poster who has since disappeared boasted about. I'm pretty up on what the Poly costs.

Also up on the price of a stay at the Poly...

I was there on the August Exclusive this year and I've been working on my winter vacation since early September, I priced out the Poly for Feb 1/15 to Feb 8/15 on Disney's site a month ago and again week ago before the 30% RO discount was advertised...

Rack rate for a Standard View at the Poly just a week ago, for that week was listed as $564.42 a night before taxes, so with taxes very close to or just over $600 a night.
So I contacted my agent at XXX and received the price of $310.43 a night all taxes included for those exact dates.

(The new current 30% off RO offer for standard is $434.17 per night plus taxes)

So any way you choose to add it up.... It is approx 50% off on the offer for late January, early February. The price does indeed increase on the Valentine's Day offer.. but in late January and Early February it is a very, very good deal.

The rate for the Poly standard for Feb. 2 is $337.84 including tax on Disney's website. (The rack rate for first week of Feb is $429 or $482.63 with tax.)…. That represents a 30% discount off rack rate.(pretty standard).. If as you state you are paying $310.43 from XXX agency that is an additional approx. 6% discount. That is approx 36% off rack not 50%..sorry. With a pin you can get close to that from Disney too. Lets not exaggerate….. 36ish% is NOT 50%!

hmmmm….maybe I should save the stay for a later date then. ;)

Honestly, I wish I had waited until the construction at the resort was finished.
Unless your rate is deeply discounted I'm convenienced it's not worth the price by most people's standards.
.....and I wish I could tell you different as I'm sure you're excited to go.
Whatever you decide have a wonderful trip

Let me state my opinion again. I feel that staying at the Poly during construction is worth it when paying a deeply discounted rate. I come to these boards for helpful information. I hope my thoughts on Poly construction were helpful to others. I was asked to define what a deep discount was and I believe I have done so. Again, thank you Tikiman for the updates over the months.
