Official MINIVAN Car Rental Thread*****

This will be our first time renting a car for our Disney trip and we'll need a mini van. I'm feeling kinda lost!

I'm the type to plan WAY ahead, but it seems from this thread that rates are often lower closer to travel. Am I understanding that right? Our trip is the last week of January and rates seem so high compared to what others report paying.

It just makes me nervous to wait so long... But is waiting til a month or so out really the best strategy? Will I be stuck with limited choices if I wait?

Book the best rate that you can find now, and just cancel the reservation when/if you find a better one.

I am renting a mini van for a week in April 2015. The best rate that I have found so far is $335 (including all taxes and fees). This is with Dollar throuh AAA.

I have also found Hertz at $450 through AAA and Avus at $450 with my company discount. The advantage of Hertz and Avis is my DW can be added as a driver for free. I believe Hertz has other benefits like free child seats. (I think this is only if you rent Hertz through AAA and are AAA member).

Dollar charges $12 per day for additional driver and I'm sure will charge for car seats.

I am hoping rates drop as we get closer to April.

Thanks for the tips. I was overlooking the idea of booking now and then canceling if I find something better (I'm so used to non refundable airfare!).

As an experienced Disney planner, it's weird to feel so out of my element again.

Still waiting for rates to drop mid Oct....anyone know of any great deals....I am hoping to get my rental under $200 for the week. Currently sitting @ $235 with Alamo.

I used these codes with budget and got a mini van dec 6-dec19. 13 day rental $373.00.
28.69 per day

Just booked a minivan through Alamo. Pick up at MCO on Dec. 6 at 9 a.m., return to MCO on Dec. 14 at 5 p.m.

Disney passholder contract ID: 860292
$30 off coupon code: AD2338FDF

Price: $209 including all taxes and fees.

Prices were down across the board for Alamo today (and Budget was down last night). Hope this helps someone!

Prices for minivan, last week of October dropped to $237 this morning for Thrifty out of Sanford. That's $100 less then the Economy-full size.

I am terrible at this; I need a van for Nov 15-23rd and can't seem to find anything with the major companies for under $400. What am I doing wrong? What is the best place to look for the codes people are listing here?

Now that you are subscribed to this thread you need to keep an eye here for these codes. That's how I've been getting the great rates!!

In order to get the Alamo discount for annual passholder, do you need to provide proof of your pass? Just asking because I'm looking for a minivan for family. They do not have annual pass but I do (although I won't be with them when they pick up). Might just be too confusing.
TIA

Along these lines, I have purchased annual passes for my family and have the vouchers, but they will not be activated until after we pick up our rental car and drive to WDW. Does anyone have experience with whether they ask you to present a pass when renting using the annual passholder discount, and whether showing them a not-yet-activated voucher would suffice? Thanks.

Wondering if their are any good deals? I just checked this morning and the cheapest I can get Nov 29-Dec 6 is $375 total (using AAA code). I thought I was all set with my car rental until I realized that Alamo does not allow free extra driver and I forgot to add DH. I usually don't mind driving, but not all vacation! Adding an extra driver costs $70, so it negates my deal

I think Alamo allows free extra drivers when using certain codes (like Costco 7014627) or if signed up for Alamo Insiders. You will need both drivers driver's licenses to check in at kiosk at MCO (I learned this the hard way and had to run back to baggage claim to get my wife's DL once). You should be able to add Insiders code online and then do online check in to add your additional driver.

Unfortunately it appears Alamo got rid of the free additional driver perk. https://alamo.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2148/kw/additional drivers. It now costs $10 per day. I don't have Costco near me, so unable to use that code.

Subscribing. Looking for rental vehicle to drive to Disney 12/18-12/19. Can't find anything reasonable. In need of a good code.

Subscribing. We will be needing to rent a minivan for our trip in October 2015. I know that's a year away and I'm jumping in a little too quick here, :rotfl2: but when would be a good time for me to start looking at prices? Whats the best way to get a good deal? Just watch these forums and wait for some good codes? We've rented cars in the past out of MCO, but never a minivan. Any and all advice is appreciated. Thanks!!

Just booked Budget, $393 for 11/27 - 12/6. It's a lot lower than most of the others I've checked. That's the "Pay Now" rate, with Southwest Rapid Rewards code BCD U072700/coupon code MUWZ107. I guess if it goes lower I will have to cancel and rebook and lose $10. :scratchin
ETA: Budget allows a spouse as an additional driver for free.

Our trip is not until the second week of May 2015. I have been looking at the mini van prices on Costco and they start around $435. Will they come down much for my time frame. We just returned from DW and rented a minivan for about $375. Two years ago in May I was renting a minivan for $199, are those days over?

Thanks!
