****Official May 2012 Thread**** ALMOST TIME TO LEAVE!!

Question of the Day:

What are your tips for someone with no ADRs? Is there even a chance for walk ups? (Question asked by Rekins)

Great question! We have a big bunch going in May and we are all booked except for my in-laws...no ADR's (except 2) that I made as a group. According to them it shouldn't be a problem getting into a restaurant:lmao:

Ack.
Ds woke up with a cold today.

Just for a little background. August 2010 trip ds gets sick on the last few days of our trip, ended up in the hospital in Orlando for an infection in his appendix. February 2011, dd gets sick on day 1 of our trip and it turns out to be Strep throat.
And the grand finale, August 2012, ds gets what appears to be the stomach flu on check out day. Within 5 or 6 hours of being home we rush to the hospital. His appendix ruptured and we spend 2 weeks at the hospital.

Soooo please tell me this is just a cold, and our trip will be fine. Colds I can handle.

Oh, I hate it when the kids get sick right before vacation! I'm sure it's just a cold though (or maybe even spring allergies?? we've all had them here). You have a week before vacation - I'm sure he'll be all better by then. And that Florida sunshine will do wonders for stuffy sinuses!

I would take him to the dr. today so just in case it is something other than a cold, maybe they can give you antibiotics and he will be all better by the time you leave. This is hopefully the sick free year :)

Question for those with kids. I was thinking about buying the kids guide books to read over (since they don't know they are going until a day before) on the plane/day before. Any suggestions? Maybe the color companion to the Unofficial Guide?

Thanks for understanding you guys:)
I think it's a very good idea to make a doctors appointment for Monday and get him checked out and an antibiotic if needed. My DR knows we wouldn't use anything unless it became very apparent it was bacterial (like an ear infection) so she would likely write us a script just in case. Hopefully we won't need it.
I do daycare in my home part time. One of my kids is on antibiotics for an ear infection, and another was out last week with Scarlett Fever.
By the time they get sick we've all been exposed to eachother while it's in incubation, so we'll get something or we won't. I don't usually worry about it much, it's just trip time that makes me paranoid.

I think Birnbaums makes a book that is for kids but I'm not sure. Also, if they are old enough my then 7 year old and 13 yr old LOVED the Hidden Mickey guide book! They used it every day of the trip and took pictures of themselves with many of the hidden mickeys they found.
We'll be bringing it again!

My suggestion would be to check at the less popular restaurants or with the resort concierge for same day ADR. Also, for dinner and if you want to try a walk up...get there when the restaurant opens. There is a better chance they will seat you. You never know until you try. I am too A type personality to go without ADR's, but my DH and I have changed some ADR's with the concierge while we were there.

They might have a better chance at some of the restaurants, since disney started the Credit Card hold/fee thing. :confused3

On a side note....10 days until we leave!!!!!! :cool1::banana:

15 days! Life is STRESSFUL! I'm so ready for this.

I was talking to a guy at the gym last night that has been to Disney 4 times and he had no idea what Ohana or the Polynesian were :confused3

Here is a little teaser pic for all of you (I took this on 4/13/12) It's the playground at the Flower & Garden festival in Epcot!

Thank you for the pic. DD4 is the kind of kid who literally stops and smells the roses so she is very excited to see all the flowers. I keep showing her pictures. Would you be able to tell me where this is located? This might be a great spot for her and daddy to play around while I stroll with DD1 to get her to nap. :)

Ack.
Ds woke up with a cold today.

DD4 has had a tiny cough since yesterday. I'm treating it as allergies for the moment and giving her nebulizer treatments. If it gets worse, we may have to stop in at the Dr office next week because I do not want a sick kid on vacation. DD1 and I are also sneezing so I'm really hoping it's just allergy related.

DBF has to go to MD for 4 days (Sat-Tues) so it's throwing a bit of a wrench into my organizing/cleaning before this trip. I have one more weekend before we leave, but was hoping to knock the bulk of packing this upcoming weekend. You all know it's virtually impossible to do anything with kids. One keeps asking questions, the baby takes out whatever I put into the suitcase and the cats won't get OUT of the suitcase. :rotfl2:

There are still great ADR's to be had for May!
My suggestion would be to think outside the box a little. Book great breakfasts or lunches, check the dining system online in the mornings while there, check with the concierge of the resort on the day of.

They may not get the most popular restaurants at the very best times...but there is still plenty of fun and great restaurants to go to!:)

As others have said, try less popular/crowded places... But if you really want to try one of the "better" resturants, it doesn't hurt to walk up and ask if they have anything. You never know if someone might have canceled, or not shown up. I think it also helps if you have a small party... My sister and I went alone once, and managed to walk into Cinderella's Royal Table after a 10 minute wait. People were b*tch glaring at us that day!

I received our Mickey Mail on April 2nd for our May 8th trip; however, I have yet to receive our Magical Express tags.

I called this morning and spoke to a CM that was very nice but seemed a little spacey. First she told me that the tags are mailed out just 2 weeks before the trip so I should just wait and I would be getting mine soon. I found that odd so I pressed her a little. She finally put me on hold and said she checked with DME and ours were mailed on March 29th (which would be about the same date as the Mickey Mail) but since not received they would mail them again.

Once I get them, I need to mail them to Alabama (I am driving to Disney from Orlando but the rest of my group is flying in), so I am starting to get worried about timing.

Should I be concerned? Call and speak to another CM? When do you normally receive the DME tags?

I am headed to Disney for a trip with my girlfriend from May 29 to June 2! We can't wait, and are eagerly anticipating Mickey Mail. Only 40 days left!

Even better - do you have an iphone or Smartphone? Here is a little gem of an address I picked up last year - it lets you do an on the spot search for availability, and make reservations even the same day. used it many times on our last trip, and it's FREE! If there are last minute cancellations, you can pick them up without having to hover around the podiums and ask.

Hope that helps!:thumbsup2

Thanks for that ap:thumbsup2. I passed it along to my daughter. She was unable to get a table at T-Rex when we are there. Hopefully she gets lucky with this app::yes::

You might have better luck calling T-Rex directly. They usually hold back reservations. I did the same for Rainforest Cafe. Showed no availability on the WDW site, but I called at got the exact time I wanted!!

So, is anyone getting a little nervous about the weather?? I was looking at the extended forecast (which I know is not that accurate) and I was seeing quite a few days of Rain!! :scared1::eek::headache:

It rained for one day on our last trip and we only realized it had when we came out of a ride/show and noticed that everything was wet.

Fingers crossed that there will be no rain on this trip!!!

Thanks! Do you mean call Disney dining reservations? I did call them last week and tried every day we are there... Lunch and dinner, no luck  Is there a direct number for T-Rex? Is T-Rex Disney owned/operated?
