****Official May 2012 Thread**** ALMOST TIME TO LEAVE!!

Question of the Weekend:
What do you typically do the day/night you arrive in WDW?

If we get in early enough, we go to a park. But if we get in late afternoon we usually go directly to downtown disney and do a little shopping and enjoying just being there.

This time we are planning on getting there around 9 or 10 am. We'll check in to WL and just enjoy touring the lodge before our first ADR at Whispering Canyon at 12. Then we'll go directly to MK.

Question of the Weekend:
What do you typically do the day/night you arrive in WDW?

This year we hit AK as soon as we arrived. Got in free thanks to a friend that is a cast member. In May we'll be taking the day off from the park, going swimming and DTD until our dinner at T-Rex.

Question of the Weekend:
What do you typically do the day/night you arrive in WDW?

We usually arrive in the afternoon and we don't have tickets for any parks that day, so we check into our hotel, chill, and head to Downtown Disney or, this trip, I will probably see if we can cruise around and visit the other resorts!

We usually check in and go to downtown Disney and shop and go to Disney Quest. We eat a late dinner there and then come back to the resort to rest for MK. Hopefully one of our next trips we will do Mickey's Backyard BBQ or Hoop Dee Doo Revue.

We usually check in late afternoon/early evening. We eat dinner and take a swim. Then rest up for an early morning at the parks!

We will be there from May6th till the 12th. Staying at Caribbean Beach. I've been looking for the official May thread for awhile. Going to go back and catch up now. :surfweb:

10 months, 28 days, and a wake-up!!! Amtrak won't let you book more than 11 months out, so just now I booked us on the auto-train... I used my Disney Visa, so that's $8+ in rewards... that's almost a balloon, right? :rotfl:

The girls are sooo excited we're going to be in a sleeping car... I just want a locking door between them and the world if I'm asleep... plus, it's harder for them to annoy the other passengers if I can lock them in a little room! :rotfl:

Happy happy Joy joy...

Thats sounds like sooo much fun... I looked into the Amtrak option but its more expensive than flying so not worth it for us.

I really want to check out 'Ohana, have never been and it sounds great to me. I really want a Lapu Lapu. (Am I remembering that name correctly?)

Me too..

I'll be there May 5-9 at AKV Jambo House. My DH and I will be taking our 2 year old son for the first time. :goodvibes I'm so excited to share Disney with him!

My DH and I visited WDW in early December last year with the regular dining plan. We got to eat at Le Cellier, Sci-Fi, California Grill, Via Napoli, and Chef Mickey. I think since our son is still young we'll probably only eat at a few sit-down places. We won't be doing the dining plan again. The plan includes too many add-ons for us. I know we want to book a Tusker House breakfast to let my son see some characters before park opening and maybe one place at EPCOT.

I am usually a commando planner, but I am looking forward to simply picking a starting park and just winging it! It should be a fun experience. pirate:

2 is a great age!! We took our son at 2 for the first time last year, a lot of people told us it was a waste that he wouldn't remember. Well he had a blast so did we, he got his 1st haircut there and these are the memories you cherish forever...

Yeah that commando thing might not work out this time ;) I am the same way but with kids that small its good to have a general plan but nothing too detailed because things will always change

My favorite is Lobster Eggs Benedict - Two Poached Eggs, Lobster Bread Pudding, Asparagus, and Hollandaise Sauce from Grand Floridian Cafe! popcorn::

LOBSTER EGGS BENEDICT!!!

Normally, I am sent to get Fastpasses for Soarin' while the rest of the family waits for me outside of Spaceship Earth. When I return, our first ride is Spaceship Earth.

That sounds like a great idea!

We're going with Wilderness Lodge. Of the 6 of us going, only 2 have stayed there before and it will be a new experience for me. I've been to WL before for a ressie to Whispering Canyon but never stayed before.

I am in love with WL mind you I have never been there... I tired to stay there for this trip but its an extra 500 bucks can't really justify that :sad2:

What are you Celebrating?

Nothing really... maybe my bday which is a few weeks before we go on 4.23

Are you a pin collector?

I like them, and have bought a few during my past trips but I think I'm done with that.

What is your first full day plan?

We will probably head out to Hollywood Studios and spend the day there.

What is your favorite place in WDW to have breakfast?

So far Cape May... it's just so pretty there!

In order, what are you favorite parks to see?
1 being your favorite, 4 being the last one you will visit.

1. MK
2. EPCOT
3. DHS
4. AK (not necessarily the last we will visit but my least fav.)

Do you have a PTL, PJ, or Pre-Dining Report?

Not yet will probably start one in a few weeks

Tell us about your favorite experience with a CM at WDW!

During our March trip this year, we had a really bad experience at Chef Mickey's which caused our ADR to be delayed for an hour and a half. This caused our plan of getting back to our hotel to change. I was do tired and had a cranky and sick 2 year old with me. My husband who is not a planner at all was counting on me to know what to do. So for some reason I thought taking the Monorail back to TTC and catching a bus there would work. So we got on the bus headed to DHS thinking we could catch the bus to Coronado Springs there. The only problem is was close to 11pm:eek: The park of course was closed and very dark... I asked our driver what could we do to get to our resort. He responded by saying we would have to ride to MK with him and from there take the bus to CSR. I nodded and said no problem, my son had fallen asleep on my husband so we would just have to deal. Then the bus driver asked where we were staying so I told him... so he goes don't worry I'll just drop you on the way there :wizard::littleangel: I have NEVER been so grateful!!

What is your favorite snack in all of WDW?

SOOO many to choose this time I'll say churros!

What is the first ride/attraction you will go to in Epcot?

SPE

What is your favorite restaurant in DTD?

I've only been to Earl and Rainforest Cafe... both pretty good

What is you favorite viewing place for the following WDW events?:
1. Illuminations 2. Wishes 3. Dream Come True Parade

Don't really have a special place.

What Resort did you pick and why?

We were almost certain we were not going to be able to go in 2012, and then they announced the discounted rates... we considered a value but thought our son would really enjoy the pirate room.

What is your #1 Tip for 1st time visitors?

If you're coming with children 4 and under BRING A STROLLER... yes you have to park them and fold them up on the bus and some people might give you dirty looks BUT when your child gets tired of walking you will be very happy to have somewhere for them to rest. Also it gives you a place to carry things.

Will you drive/fly or take the train to WDW?

Fly

Just booked Port Orleans FQ for May 5-19, soooo excited!! Slightly concerned about the long flight from the UK and time difference with my two and a half year old daughter but hoping as long as we're flexible it will go ok.

We will be there from May6th till the 12th. Staying at Caribbean Beach. I've been looking for the official May thread for awhile. Going to go back and catch up now. :surfweb:

Welcome! I am glad you could join us and go back to answer all of the questions of the day! Great that you took the time to do that ;)

Wow, 2 1/2 will be great! You are going to have so much fun!

Hello All :goodvibes:

We are going to be in the World May 6-11 staying at the Boardwalk Inn Club Level

I'm kind of nervous about the crowd levels b/c we are going with my mother who hasn't been since I was younger and my four kiddos (8,5,4 and almost 2 at time of travel)

Has anyone else been around this time? is it a good time to go??

Welcome! I am not too worried about the crowd level, just plan to go to the parks that doe have extra magic hours that day. Those parks tend to be less crowded! We went about 3 years ago around this time and it was great, longest line was TOT for 25 min!

Question of the Day:
Have you ever been stuck on a ride in WDW from it breaking? If so, tell us your experience!

Question of the Day:
Have you ever been stuck on a ride in WDW from it breaking? If so, tell us your experience!

Luckily I have not. However this spring my husband and son had got in line to ride Space Mountain while my daughter and I went and rode Astro Orbiter. As they were about to board; the ride broke. They received fast passes for Space Mountain that they could use anytime over the next three days so that made up for their wait with no ride. I was just glad they weren't actually on it cause my son would have been freaking out. He is only 5.

Question of the Day:
Have you ever been stuck on a ride in WDW from it breaking? If so, tell us your experience!

Twice. Once we were stuck on BTMR just outside of the station in the baking sunshine sometime in August for about 10/15 minutes.

The best however was being evacuated from Test Track when it broke down when we were on the cornering section. That was a different experience.

Question of the Day:
Have you ever been stuck on a ride in WDW from it breaking? If so, tell us your experience!

Space Mountain back when you had to sit on someones lap! I was stuck sitting on my aunt's lap for about 45 minutes. We were just on the first incline (Right where the People Mover goes thru) and apparently the teenagers kept going around on the People mover to laugh at us. They finally turned the lights on and got us out of the vehicle. We had to walk all the way to the top just to go back down again.

Question of the Weekend:
What do you typically do the day/night you arrive in WDW?

It depends on what time we arrive. If we take the early morning flight, we get to the resort and check in, then head to either DTD or Epcot. If we arrive afternoon or early evening...we check in, get our grocery delivery, eat dinner, unpack and maybe take a swim and then get ready for an early start the next day.

What are you Celebrating?

Oh my goodness, we have a LOT to celebrate this trip:

- My 50th Birthday.
- DW and my 29th Anniversary.
- DS and DDIL 2nd Anniversary
- DS College graduation

Also we are taking one of my DS friends and it is his 1st trip.
We have been blessed this year.

Are you a pin collector?

Me? Nah...the DW and DDIL collect cretain ones.

What is your first full day plan?

HS of course! It's SWW.

What is your favorite place in WDW to have breakfast?

The kids all enjoy Chef Mickey's!

In order, what are you favorite parks to see?
1 being your favorite, 4 being the last one you will visit.

1. MK
2. EPCOT
3. DHS
4. AK

Do you have a PTL, PJ, or Pre-Dining Report?

Not yet.

Tell us about your favorite experience with a CM at WDW!

Well, we have had so many good experiences. I think the one that sticks out is from our first time staying on property in 2008. DW is a diabetic and had an issue at AKL where she passed out. We had one of the CM's from a Pin kiosk call the paramedics and while we were waiting he stayed with us and had another CM bring her some water. I did not catch his name, but the fact that he stayed right with us meant a great deal.

What is your favorite snack in all of WDW?

I have to pick a favorite?

What is the first ride/attraction you will go to in Epcot?

Soarin'

What is your favorite restaurant in DTD?

We haven't been to all of them yet...but so far we like Rainforest.

What is you favorite viewing place for the following WDW events?:
1. Illuminations 2. Wishes 3. Dream Come True Parade

1. We like to sit as near the center as possible and pretty far back to be able to see the overall show.
2. DS has a designated light pole he always shoots for, lol.
3. Not sure...this one varies.

What Resort did you pick and why?

We stayed in POP in 2010 and 2011 and it has becoem our favorite overall. We spend so little time in the room that it does not make sense to go higher than a Moderate...we stayed in POR in 2008 and we enjoyed it, but we really like the layout and overall feel of POP.

What is your #1 Tip for 1st time visitors?

TAKE YOUR TIME! Don't try to rush and don't overschedule. Just enjoy all that is WDW. Sit and people watch...it's fun!

Also, we have found that adding a RO for the day after your package allows you to have that full day when you can still use your tix and DDP credits rather than having to worry about checking out, etc.

Will you drive/fly or take the train to WDW?

Drive. We have 3 drivers so no on gets over-taxed. Besides it's hard to justify the extra $1,000+ that we could spend on other things (like an extra day...hehe).

Question of the Day:
Have you ever been stuck on a ride in WDW from it breaking? If so, tell us your experience!

Got stuck on Space Mountain here! It was sure an adventure. Took 10 mins for them to come get us and let us out of the car, but felt like an hour! When the lights come back on it made me not want to ever ride it again!

SOOO many to choose this time I'll say churros!

They sausages at Cape May were divine. I would fill my plate with only those if I could.

Also tried the churros for the first time last trip, those would be right up there with my favorite snacks too.

Question of the Day:

I've been on a couple, but the most memorable was Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin. I was on with my daughter, who was 3 at the time, and she was pretty afraid of the dark. It broke down at the point where it's dark and looks like you're flying through shooting stars. She loved spinning the car so to keep her from being afraid I tried to get her to focus on keeping that car spinning. I am normally fine on spinny rides, but that combined with the flying stars even had my steely stomach faltering...
