Official May 2011 thread!

We are scheduled to go 5/27-6/4 for DS's bday but I'm wondering if we should change to 6/3-6/11 because of crowds. Any suggestions?

Hello, I haven't been on here in a few days, we had this big plan to reveal the surprise to the grandkids for this trip in May. We made the big reveal at Christmas. All the planning I had done for the big reveal didn't go too well.
On December 20th, I lost my son...unexpectently ( the childrens Daddy) so our big surprise wasn't as happy as we tried to make it. In stead we are grieving for our loss. I am just hoping that the next few months of planning will help the kids to focus on happy things.

I will be checking in once in a while to get some ideas for our trip

Thank you vey much.....I quess the next time I call WDW, and they ask me what we are celebrating. I will tell them that we are celebrating my son's life.

The kids seem to be excited now about going, so I suppose each day will get a little better.

Well change of plans regarding our dining. We just got back from a 6 night trip on the DxDP plan. OMG that was WAY to much food and to much of a hassle keeping ADRs straight. So we are sticking to the basic plan for our May trip.

I have to admit that I agree on the too much food thing. I am also thinking to do the standard dining in May, although haven't completely ruled out deluxe yet. I want to do deluxe again but do a signature restaurant every day, which would I think make it a LOT easier to handle.

With as many as we have planned??? :rotfl:

I'm so glad it's January 1st!!!!! Four months to go; we will be arriving May 1-7 and I'm very excited. Who else will be there this time?????

A couple of friends and I are going May 3-9th!!
Booked the flights last week!
ADR's got done on Wednesday!
And I JUST booked the package!!:woohoo::yay:
It's actually real now! YAY

For our plan we have
May 3(Day 1): Arrival, DTD/BW
Day 2: Breakfast at Crystal Palace, MK
Day 3: B at Tusker House, AK
Day 4: Offsite to US to Get Back to Hogwarts.Headstart on Epcot in the evening
Day 5: B at Akershus, Epcot
Day 6: DHS
Day 7: Breakfast at Ohana, checkout & departure

I'm still trying to understand everything about my DVC but from what I've read there was something about we (as a DVC member) could pick a dining plan for our entire trip or we could split the trip up over two or more. For example: Day 1 and 2 do basic, day 3 and 4 do deluxe. If this is the case and I'm understanding this correctly then we will do basic for majority of the trip except like 3 days where there are certain restaurants I want to do breakfast and dinner at. I'm going to call DVC member services on Monday to clarify to make sure I understood correctly. If I did, then we more then likely will go that route. If that's the case then this would be our ADRs

May 16th
Arrive resort, relax, Chef Mickey for dinner

May 17th
Whispering Canyon Cafe for dinner

May 18th
Ohana for dinner

May 19th
Crystal Palace for breakfast
Liberty Tree Tavern for dinner

May 20th
Cape May Cafe for breakfast
Mama Melrose for Fantasmic package

May 21st
Kona Cafe for breakfast
1900 Park fare for dinner

May 22nd
Trails End restaurant for breakfast (trying to decide if I want to cancel)
Plaza Restauran for dinner

May 23rd
Sci Fi for dinner

May 24th
Whispering Canyon Cafe for breakfast

We will be there 05/30 to 06/06. Some of us are doing a Dis meet on Mon the 30th at Chef Mickey's at 6:15 if anyone else wants to join us.

We did deluxe on our last trip and yes I thought it would be to much food but we did shows and signature dining. We ate at places we normally would not and it was great. It also worked out great being able to have a seat to get out of the heat....

Yes, this is new for 2011. We are doing the same for our May vacation.

You'll need to book your trip in increments and then have the CM link the whole vacation together so you don't need to switch rooms for each of the increments.

This is a great way to just do the DDP for a few days of your vacation (and to make sure you go to the more expensive restaurants on your DDP days).

Example:

Book 2 nights with one confirmation number, no dining plan, room category "x".

Book 3 nights with another confirmation number, adding dining plan for everyone listed in the room, room category "x".

Book 2 nights with yet another confirmation number, no dining plan, room category "x".

Link all three confirmations numbers together.

Note: if you decide to change resorts, room views or size of rooms, you obviously have to move out of your room. If everything stays the same except for adding dining plan for a few days, then you won't need to change rooms. Everyone in the room as registered on those "dining plan" days will need to pay for the dining plan.

FYI -- you can also use TIW in addition to the dining plan (if you have an AP and purchased it) for alcoholic drinks, appetizers, coffee/tea, desserts, etc. to save you another 20%!

I just wanted to say hello as I've just joined up here :) We booked a trip to Disney World for May 17-22 and we'll be staying at POR. My husband and I will be celebrating our anniversary there. It's his first time at Disney World and my first time since I was a kid so we're both excited! I look forward to reading more about everyone's planning and excitement.

I just booked our trip earlier today and I'm so excited I can hardly stand it! Pray for me, as my children are 1, 2, and 4 years old. They're going to have a blast!

I know, I know. I've been trying to decide if it is better to do OOP on a couple days, or if I fly in on the 25th, and do the standard dining throughout, but use my counter service days first two days, so have a couple extra days of TS, or what...

I am sorry for your loss. I hope that your trip will bring a little bit of joy to you and your grandkids. :flower3:

Happy Holidays everyone! I just realized our last full day in Disney will be Mother's Day. Does anyone know if Disney does anything special? We were planning on AK that day, with ADR's at Tusker for breakfast. I was thinking we would probably do DTD that evening for dinner and shopping. I don't really care about being "pampered" or anything like that, I just don't want to miss out on anything that Disney might be doing that day.

We made reservations for the Gardenview Tea Room for Mother's day!
