***Official March 2021 Thread***

Unfortunately spring break is a high travel period. I really don't want to have to deal with the administrative nightmare of dealing with flight credits, DVC points and date specific tickets I bought for my kidlets.

A testing requirement would force us to drive from texas. I had covid in November and am still showing up as positive as recently as January. You can still test positive months later.

Fortunately for me if we end up having to drive, it's only a 10 hour drive for us (2 hours less if we drive down to my oldest sister's house the night before). However I really do love the quick 2 hour flight over the drive, especially the trip home when we will both be tired. I don't mind getting tested either but I don't think I should have to be. I work from home (one is my graphic Tee business and the other is our ornamental iron business and my part is done from home unless I am helping install handrails/fences) so quarantining for me on return isn't a problem. But if getting tested allows me to fly over drive, my daughter and I probably would do it.

When I suggested driving to my husband we both laughed and laughed and then did lots of 🤮 emojis. Haha
We are not road trip people, and can't imagine driving from Chicago with an impatient 4 year old!

But I guess driving is better than NOT going. We will just have to wait and see 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

Oh wow. I had no clue you could test positive for that long afterward. My son had a mild case in November but hasn't had to be tested since then. My husband and I recently had the antibody test since we went for our yearly physical and they had to draw blood for routine blood work anyways. Neither of us had the antibodies. With my hubby teaching in the college setting, I would have expected him to contract the virus over anyone in our house but it was our 19 year old son who ended up with it. It's strange because he is the least social of anyone else in the family, only working one day a week and all his college courses were online that semester, so it was strange he got it. The only other place he really went was church and we social distance there (and he is in the sound booth with only one other person) and wasn't having sunday school during that time so it was strange he got it.

I love road trips, but it's the trips home I usually get antsy on. Once a few years ago my hubby and I drove to New Hampshire from North Alabama for a work trip and then went to Niagara Falls at the end of the trip. It was a 22 hour drive home from there, which we had to break up into two days because I can not sit in a vehicle that long. I get grumpy. I'm always okay at the start of the trip, its the end that I am not a pleasant person...LOL Plus I have to do most of the driving because I get car sick so I'm sure that's the reason I get tired of being on the road for long periods of time.

We arrive the 21st through the 27th at CBR. Since this one was last minute for us, and all the Covid restriction, I'm learning a lot this time around so we can do it right next time.

Got you added to the list. You will be there the same dates as me. the Covid stuff is definitely making us all plan differently from what we are used to.

Yep! I work for a large hospital system in texas and we stopped requiring a negative test for clinicians since so many test positive ling after recovery. You don’t have enough of the virus to be contagious, but you can have enough to show positive. My dad actually tested positive for three months and ended up having to cancel a trip to Hawaii due to the negative testing requirements.

Man, I booked dvc points from a private owner because we wanted a 2 BR and this made it half off. Both hubby and I are vaxxed so I said why not, which, in retrospect, was dumb. If we can't go we are out a LOT. I mean, my fault but ughhhhh

I wouldn't worry too much about a domestic travel ban. Logistically it would be a nightmare and from what I've read it would be extremely difficult, if not impossible, to have it hold up in court. And I'm fairly confident that Desantis would fight it tooth and nail. I'll never say never, of course (learned my lesson with that in 2020 lol), but I really don't see it happening.

I definitely think the chances are low but I’m having trouble pushing it out of my mind entirely and enjoying the anticipation of going. Even a testing requirement makes me uneasy—we were supposed to fly to see my family over Thanksgiving and the state we were going to had a testing requirement. We all got tested on Monday and on Wednesday morning—our travel day—my husband’s results came back positive with no symptoms. We had to cancel the trip, spend Thanksgiving alone, and my daughter was out of school for two weeks. Testing requirements have made me queasy ever since!

Yikes! That is a bummer and would make me nervous too.

The testing requirement should make you feel better as you would know there will be less risk on the plane. But I get where you are coming from, nothing like a last minute cancel.

Oh, totally. It was a good thing we were pulled out of circulation. Not disputing that—I’m just talking about my ability to focus and enjoying planning for a trip, knowing you can get to the day of travel and be surprised. (Even if that surprise is better for public health, generally)

100% agree, we had cancel twice now and just gave up on the countdown calendar. But having to deal with one a few days (or day of) before would be heartbreaking!

We were supposed to be going to Bahamas spring break but because of the testing requirement to get back INTO the US, we cancelled. It was too scary of a feeling to possibly test positive at the end of a vacation and then be quarantined out of the country! So we switched to WDW instead! Now I just read an article about the talk of banning travel TO Florida because of UK Variant spreading there. I actually went to bed last night feeling good about the trip happening and possibly not having to quarantine once home b/c I will be fully vaccinated and CDC now says fully vaccinated people don't have to quarantine if exposed for the first 3 months. And now I'm all worried again about having to cancel!

UGH! This is so hard!

We're driving so we don't have to worry about the airlines and the kids and I can quarantine at home after we return but my husband can not. If some sort of true travel restriction happens, we will probably have to cancel. Again. And the idea that the new variant is spreading so fast is definitely making me nervous. Literally just last night I had talked myself into being okay with the trip and now my anxiety is up about it all over again.

I doubt they will put a travel ban in place at least by the time we all go. I don't have anything to back that up (lol) outside of reasons other people have been giving. Florida seems to be very defiant in regards to anything related to Covid. They even allowed the parks to reopen (obviously) and refused to enact statewide mandates. It will be a fight for sure. If it DOES happen though I hope they do so quickly for all our sakes.

I couldn't imagine getting stuck abroad, I would've done the same.

I just don't want another March trip canceled at the last minute. (last year was the day before we were to fly)
Tell me soon, white house, or move on away from this. :) (Please, it's my 50th Birthday trip for goodness sake. 🥺 )
