** Official ** March 2011!!!

My sister and I and our two 14 y/o sons are going March 3-9, staying at Pop Century along with some other friends.

My name is Beth and my son is Cole. Our last trip to WDW was in August 2008. Swore I'd never do that again ... August is way too hot and crowded. I figured if I had to deal with crowds, I'd at least do it when it is nice and cool :o) We stayed at one of the Downtown Disney hotels and I also said I'd never do that again either. While it is consider a Disney "resort," it certainly lacked the magic and the transportation to/from the parks was awful. In the past we've stayed at Port Orleans French Quarter and Coronado Springs. This will be a trip of quite a few "firsts": first time staying at a value resort, first time using the counter service dining plan, first time traveling to WDW without my husband and first time going to WDW for Mardi Gras.

Can't wait to laissez le bon temps rouler in WDW!!:woohoo:

We usually go in August, BUT then we love the heat. I've seen people wearing jeans in that weather.

I am through the moon! The trip and ADR's are all booked, I'm doing some last minute shopping (crocs, bags, any suggestions?). I'm hoping to get baby's first hair cut at Magic kingdom. The kids still don't know and I'm doing my best to keep my mouth shut! We leave in 20 days and counting!:cool1:

We got my dd's first haircut the last time we went! She was 2, almost 3, but had never had her hair cut. It is one of my most favorite memories! They gave her lots of "pixie dust" and her own set of minnie mouse ears that said my first haircut on the back. My other dd was also able to get some pixie dust. This ranks right up there with one of my most favorite Disney memories ever! Have fun!

Awwww, man...we are going home on the 10th and we will miss the meet!!! :guilty:

Well, just in case we run into anyone just walking around:
My name is Kara and I am 38 years old. This will be our 4th trip since 2008. None of us had ever been before that. It will be me, DH 37 and DD's 10 and 6 on this trip. DH and I both work in Travel and Tourism here in the Niagara Region of Ontario. Because of our schedules we can mostly only get off season vacation time..which is fine with us as it's usually cheaper and less busy when we travel! The only downside is taking DD's out of school..so far so good...we won't be able to do this forever though. Please take some time to check out our PTR!!! You will get to know a little too much about us ;), but it might help pass the wait time!!:thumbsup2

We're driving home on the 11th so I'll be gone for the meet-up on the 12th, but figured I'd do a brief intro anyway.

There will be 4 of us on our trip: me (Angele), dh, ds (9) & my mom. The four of us along with my nephew & his gf came for Mardi Gras 2009. That was the first trip for ds and the first for me and dh together. I think I'll be a little more relaxed for this trip; although I'm panicking that my touring plans aren't done yet. DS and I have been talking about the trip, watching DVDs, etc. since we told him the news in early Jan. Can't wait for March 5th to get here.

I'm sharing a couple of "firsts" with you - this will be our first time trying a value resort. We're kind of going from one extreme to another. Stayed at Grand Floridian in June 2009. We just found we really only used our resort to sleep and swim, so why not try a value. I also think my kids will possibly find POP more exciting than GF.

Also, we had a blast in June 2009, but it was extremely crowded and very hot and humid with rainshowers every afternoon. I know March will be packed, but like you seems doable with more mild temps and hopefully less chance of rain. We really didn't mind the crowds, it was the heat that was tough. This will be our first time trying Spring Break time!

UPDATE:

I'll be in the world from 2/23/2011 - 3/11/2011 staying at OKW.

I've got so many days in Feb now that I should almost put this in the Feb thread too! :D

Hi Beth from Mississippi! I am Allyson from Slidell Louisiana. We'll be at the Pop the same time as you and I am also traveling without my husband (only with my daughter and my mother). We went for Mardi Gras 2009 and it was great!! (much better than the summers when we usually go)

Getting Excited!!! Just a few more Weeks til I can walk down Main St. and not think about work, bills, house, and other real life stuff!! I think I am most excited about being in the world with my folks again. They are fun to travel with. Hope everyone got their Mickey heads printed and ready to go. I will have my eye out for you( as my husband pin stalks the cast members). :goodvibes
Hope everyone is staying warm. Ready for warm Florida days!!:cool2:
Colleen Your Flower MH is awesome. Mom was very excited about our Mardi Gras Mickey Head. Don't be surprised if you see it on a t-shirt or 8.:worship:

Hey There March-ers!

Looks like there are a few of us available still on the 12th. Looking forward to meeting you all.

Looks like the weather is getting warmer down south!

Our first trip stay on property was at AKL. It is jaw droppingly cool, but like you we spent all our time at the parks. By switching to All Stars, we were able to stay longer & do more. I think you'll be happy with your decision. Eventually, I'd love to go back to AKL when the kids are more amenable to RELAXING at the resort. We enjoyed all 3 AS, and are working our way through the moderates (CBR & CS 2010, POR 3/11). We are trying POP in 5/11 for a Star Wars Weekend & the CS plan for the first time. I'd love to hear if you like POP.

We have been in June, Aug., & Sept. in the past, and March 2010. The weather is MUCH better in March, and last year I did not think crowds were too terrible. I've seen worse in the summer & right before Christmas. Here is hoping the same applies this year! Enjoy & hope it is a magical trip month for us all!

Ohhh you are making me EVEN MORE EXCITED, if that's possible :rotfl: I really don't mind the crowds with a plan and using fastpasses. I think the weather not being as hot it will be all that much better. I also think my kids will like POP better than GF at their age. I know I will miss the luxury feel of GF but again, we're just not in the room that much. Really, just to sleep!

You are going to have sooo much fun! For suggestion-don't skip the parades! The electrical parade at MK is amazing, and the floats AK are a personal favorite, but we have never been disappointed in any WDW parade. To grab a prime viewing seat, plan on staking out a spot about 1 hour before time, grab a beverage or snack & relax!

At AK, Festival of the Lion King & Finding Nemo are both wonderful shows. You won't be disappointed in either. Kilamanjaro Safari's is unforgettable if you love animal, and if your family likes zoos, both the Pagani Forest and Mahrajah Jungle trek are beautiful viewing experiences. If that's not your thing, enjoy the rides & PARADE.

Epcot will be in bloom, and the Flower & Garden festival is gorgeous. Our favorite ride there is Soarin'. Akehaus has princess character dining, and if you like Mexican food (being from TX you might;) the outdoor QS Cantina de San Angel has a new fresh tortilla taco menu that is supposed to be super yummy for lunch (at dinner it become a sit down dining experience). I believe there is a Best of Epcot thread that tells you a lot about 'must do's" and the Kim Possible kimmunicators and KIdcot have been suggested as fun ways to enjoy the WS.
For DTD, I would recommend going early in the day b/c it was SUPER crowded even by Disney standards last year when we went in the evenings. We were in WDW 3/17-3/23/10 and I did not enjoy DTD after dark b/c of how crowded it was, but found the day shopping & dining much more relaxed.

For DHS, don't miss FANTASMIC!!! Awesome, in a word. Everyone loves TSM, so try & get FP early for that. DDs would probably really enjoy the B&B show if you can squeeze it in. If your girls are thrill seekers ToT is uber cool & RR is my favorite WDW coaster.

HTH

thanks for the info, kids will definitely like the shows.
