Welcome to the Lost off season thread!!
lost_logo.jpg

I figured since we have had threads for every season in bothspoiler and non spoiler fashion that it was time we had our official off season thread.

Welcome to the world of ARG's...whats and arg?
An alternate reality game (ARG) is an interactive narrative that uses the real world as a platform, often involving multiple media and game elements, to tell a story that may be affected by participants' ideas or actions.

The form is typified by intense player involvement with a story that takes place in real-time and evolves according to participants' responses, and characters that are actively controlled by the game's designers, as opposed to being controlled by artificial intelligence as in a computer or console video game. Players interact directly with characters in the game, solve plot-based challenges and puzzles, and often work together with a community to analyze the story and coordinate real-life and online activities. ARGs generally use multimedia, such as telephones, email and mail but rely on the Internet as the central binding medium.
(from wikipedia)

So why am I talking about ARG's....simply put Lost's "offseason" if you wish to call it that is always one big ARG!

This years started even before the season finale was done...think back to the advertisement you saw about Octagon Glodal Recruiting (and obvious referance to Dharmas octigonal logo).
You can visit their web site at....www.octagonglobalrecruiting.com

but that's just the begining of the fun....wait till you see the e-mail they just sent me!

What imediately jumped out at me was the CC: line to one Hans Van Eeghen. It was at this point I knew the game was on!

I decided to do some searching and started with google. It lead me 2 places..1)http://worldroots.com/foundation/personages/hugodegrootdesc1583-10.htm
a family tree if you will.
2)http://forum.lostpedia.com/showthread.php?p=827843 Were I will be quoteing form as some of the people there did alot of the leg work already.

Here's some of what has been figured out.
CINEFREAK7
when you Google the name of Hans van Eeghen, one of the results is titled "Descendants of Hugo de Groot (1583-1645) -gen X-67-82 and XI-1-28"

If you scroll down, you'll find various Van Eeghen, including a Jacob (!!) van Eeghen, Born 7 April 1955 Singapore.

There's also an Emilie Louise van Eeghen Born 18 July 1952 Boston, Mass. This is the only van Eeghen born in the U.S. (on page 1, at least) so it's gotta be significant, right? (But maybe not.)

And the last listing is for Baron Jacob (!!) Charles van Heeckeren van Kell, Born 12 July 1993 London.

There's a lot of stuff in-between so it's possible I missed something (there were a lot of names and my eyes were hurting!). Of course, it's also possible that I just went on a wild goose chase and that none of this means anything at all.

This is all I got, y'all. Take it away

PRJCTMYHM add's the following...
When Googling Hans van Eeghen, you find a generational list named "Descendants of Hugo de Groot" here:

http://worldroots.com/foundation/per...esc1583-10.htm

Obviously a tie-in to the show through the Dharma Initiative founders Gerald and Karen de Groot, Hugo de Groot (Hugo Grotius) was an coincidentally interesting real-world philosopher and writer himself. Check it out -

http://oregonstate.edu/instruct/phl3...s/grotius.html

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hugo_Grotius

Hugo Grotius wrote "Mare Liberum" (Freedom at Sea), and was a free-will (LOST concept) advocate in the time of staunch Calvinism and frequently argued about ethics (another LOST concept) and justice based on the idea of "Natural Law". Note the mention of John Locke.

That's not all that has been found yet....Josh Jb chimes in on another subject...
In the source-code of the e-mail's site, it says "March has 32 days" which is the title of the last story in the comic book called Mystery Tales (no. 40) which was seen in the episode Cabin Fever in Locke's flashback! AWESOME!

Which you can view here:http://www.mysterytales40.com/march-has-32-days-last-story-from-the-mystery-tales-40-comic-book-96555 and just happens to be a tale about time travel!

ok enought of thier leg work next post will be some of mine!

Let me look into the comic before I bore you with the genoligical history.

Page one of the comic...
2512799893_a7bb55b123_o.jpg

-The main character Fredd Phipps works as a bookkeeper, as the Lost character John Locke did.

More importantly the first line reads "Within Fred as within all men, there exist a small spot, a HIDDEN LAND, of dreams, of power and prestige, and UNATTAINABLE LAND...EXCPET ON RARE OCCASIONS!

WOW...that's all I can say!

-His boss, Mr. Castin, is a succesful business man, but has such an unhappy life despite all its money: the same thing that happened with Hugo Reyes. Who was Locke's boss when he worked for the box company!

Page2:
2515148515_da8e336410_o.jpg

-Mr. Castin began the rising of his empire, after being LOST in Tibet.
-"they say people only want to be friendlywith mr castin for what he can do for them, and it's made him cynical"

Sound like Hugo much??

- weird looking ring is found....I can't come up with a link at this time.

Page3
2516817028_97f700fed4_o.jpg

-could the ring be the island?
-the shadowy figure that fallow our main character are they the others?
-He get's pulled into infinity, into time and space!

Page 4 the final page

-The main character is pulled into the LOST land in tibet..in what seems to be a different place and time from the rest of the story.

-They will give it back when man is ready and peacful.

- they talk about the corupting nature of the ring..giveing wealth and power, but pain and sadness because the world is not ready for it. Sounds like the Numbers.

So many interesting things in this story.
The web site provided touches on some other points along with those i mentioned.

The last thing I'm going to post about before I let you guys all add your thoughts and info you find is an interesting connection from the list of decendents form Hugo de Groot.

or should i just say some info about him...

Hugo Grotius or Huig de Groot, or Hugo de Groot; (Delft, 10 April 1583 – Rostock, 28 August 1645) worked as a jurist in the Dutch Republic and laid the foundations with Francisco de Vitoria for international law, based on natural law. He was also a philosopher, Christian apologist, playwright, and poet.

Grotius also developed a particular view of the atonement of Christ known as the "Governmental" or "Moral government" theory. He theorized that Jesus' sacrificial death occurred in order for the Father to forgive while still maintaining his just rule over the universe. This idea, further developed by theologians such as John Miley, became the dominant view in Arminianism and Methodism.

(could this be like BEN..sacrifceing his daughter to maintian control from the military guys?)

Looking down his entry at wikipedia one make a very interesting discovery....

In a part about the The Arminian controversy:
In these years a great theological controversy broke out between the followers of Jacobus Arminius, chair of theology at Leiden, and the more confessional Reformed or Calvinist theologian, Franciscus Gomarus.

So who was Jacobus Arminius?
The Dutch Reformed theologian Jacobus Arminius (also known as Jacob Arminius, James Arminius, and by his Dutch birthname Jacob Harmenszoon) (October 10, 1560–October 19, 1609), served from 1603 as professor in theology at the University of Leiden. He wrote many books and treatises on theology and became prominent for his opposition to the five points of Calvinism, though in actuality he objected to only three: unconditional election, limited atonement, and irresistible grace
.

Humm interesting....
or another link I tracked through.
Barones Alexandra van Tuyll van Serooskerken-- after google searching her off the geneology list i found a link about a JOHN JACOB ASTOR....

-John Jacob Astor (born Johann Jakob or Johann Jacob Astor) (July 17, 1763 – March 29, 1848) was the first prominent member of the Astor family and the first multi-millionaire in the United States. He was the creator of the first trust in America, from which he made his fortune in fur trading, real estate, and opium.[1]
-He is worth 115billion in todays money according to forbes 08 list.

Could he be Jacob???

Man there is a lot to sort through in that list!
Anythoughts??
