*****Official (??) June 2014 Thread -- Party Like It's Hot!*****

I leave in 2 days! Woo hoo! Today wast my last day of work before vacation! I was talking to one of my coworkers and she was making fun if me for going to Florida in June (why are you going to florida in the summer? Lol).

Tomorrow I finish packing and then we start driving Friday afternoon. DH arranged a work meeting in Toledo on Friday so we can start driving south earlier :)

The countdown is down to hours! I'll be on Disney property in 72 hours!

Was just reading the article here about the top 10 things you should take with you in the parks. #1 on the list is to carry ID. Just thought I'd throw that up here. Heard someone before complain because they didn't bring ID, then got carded for alcohol. Guess what they couldn't get? Must say that I've never been carded (and I've been accused of being the daughter of my sister-in-law, who is 10 years younger than me), but, just in case. I also carry my insurance card with me, just because you never know what could happen.
Yes, I wouldn't dream of leaving without my license and insurance card.
I will have those and two credit cards. Maybe a small amount of cash. A camera, phone, itouch, charger, pain reliever, and epi pens. DH carries the water bottles, snacks, plastic bags, and hand sanitizer for us.

Hey, anyone have a good product they use AFTER they get sunburned? I hope it won't happen but I think I should be ready. What do you use?

Fruit of the Earth has an aloe vera lotion that (to me) is the best stuff for a sunburn, ever. It is in a white bottle with a blue top, and a trial size version is usually sold at Disney resorts' general stores for under $3. The only other place I've seen it is CVS, same size, and I think it may have been more expensive there than at Disney. :scared1:

Impressive that you manage to get someone else to share pack mule duties. I always carry my backpack and carry everything for everyone. DD wants to carry a purse with a crossbody strap. I don't have a problem with it, but we have the rule that if you carry it out of the room, you carry it the rest of the day. We'll see how long her carrying it lasts.

Banana Boat makes a blue-colored "Sport Cool Zone" aloe soother that I use, but then again I'm allergic to every brand save Banana Boat so there may be something better out there. It's about the same price as Banana Boat sunscreen.

Alright, Photobucket it is. Here are those hairclips I ordered. I only put one bobby pin in my hair for the test but there will be two others up higher along with the hairtie. I may not be a blonde but I'm gonna feel like Elsa one way or another on my birthday:

love this!

If you are feeling brave and adventurous, I use something called Bag Balm when I have the chance to lie around on a towel for an entire night. It is a salve for cow udders. It comes in a green square tin. I've seen it at WalMart before, but other than that you might have to go to a farm/ranch store (Tractor Supply) or a local feed store. I remember being sunburned at my G'mas lake house and she smeared that all over me one evening and I had to sleep on towels with no shirt. I woke up and NEVER felt the sunburn. My mom swears by paper bags soaked in vinegar and you lay them along the sunburn.

But, if you are going to traditional, over the counter, readily available sun relief, then it would be any aloe vera type product with some type of lidocaine in it and some Tylenol/Advil/etc. :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Just over 4 days...can hardly stand it now! My 10 yr twins are chopping at the bit waiting! Made these shirts to wear during our trip IMG_6269.jpeg[/IMG]

Panama Jack makes aloe with lidocaine in it that us a godsend when you have a bad sunburn. It's kind of hard to find in stores though.

Are you like me and have a Disney stick figure family on your car?

Did you know you could build your own??

One free per household?? :hyper:

I had a revolt some years back and started bringing a small purse to parks. O used to be the one carrying the big bag to hold everything. DH wants his water so is willing to carry the backpack. When the boys were teens and came with us, they and DH would all take turns with it. I was in charge of everyone's APs and FPs and pictures. :)

That is so pretty!

Thanks for all the after sun ideas. I will check those out. My boys used to use an udder cream for cows when they had very dry and bleeding hands during the winter. Sounds like it might be something different though. Sometimes things made for animals actually work better because big money is involved. (My friend has long told me the benefits of horse shampoo)

Totally random observation/question.....and I swear Im not looney for watching kiddie shows.

So I had it on Disney Channel this morning because Mickey Mouse Clubhouse was on. Well, during it Pete (remember him?) was trying to stop them from doing something and to distract him Mickey and the gang were going to pick a Mouse-ka-tool. Anyways, when they were picking, Daisy Duck said that Pete was a big cat, so they should use the yarn since cats love yarn.

I ALWAYSSSSS thought Pete was a dog like Goofy????

We have a big book of Imponderables and it discusses the Goofy and Pluto are dogs. I know the episode you are describing. Many folks have thought Pete was a dog (reminds me of Butch from Tom and Jerry), but if you get a chance to see some of the black and white cartoons, his ears are more pointy and a few have his long tail.

I just do not understand the Goofy and Clarabelle relationship. She is a cow. He is a dog. I don't see it's going to work. Of course in the older cartoons, she and he both appear more horse like.

I love cartoons! Of course, I get to blame it on the little guy. :thumbsup2

Tomorrow is the big day for driving. Have to pick DH up in Indianapolis and then we will head south. The truck always goes to the yard up there, but sometimes his partner can take it up and DH "jumps" off the rig closer to the house.

Almost all packed up!

Bag Balm works wonders for most dry, injured skin issues. I have never had luck with Aloe Vera, but that's just me. There is also Udder Cream. It's white jar with black spots. We grew up using tea bags on the sunburn. It's funny to think about--steeping in a bath tub with tea bags. Then we were deep rubbed with Noxzema.

:cutie:

Wikipedia for Pete

According to the article, Pete was originally supposed to be a bear, but when Mickey became a mouse, Pete became a cat. If you think about it, it makes sense. Mickey's main nemesis is Pete... so it's a cat and mouse relationship. :)

I might be a nerd for knowing this, but Clarabelle was originally the girlfriend of Horace Horsecollar. Still different animals, but a cow and a horse makes more sense than a cow and a dog.

16 More Days till we leave!!!

Getting very close to June 28th and our arrival at The Bay Lake Towers...

We are vacation club members and have plans to hotel hop this year...

1.) 1st night at Bay Lake Towers
2.) 2nd Night at the Grand Floridian
5.) 3rd - 8th nights at The Wilderness Lodge
6.) 9th - 11th nights at Disney's Vero Beach Resort

We are driving down in my Jeep Wrangler from home so it should take about 16 hours or so depending on traffic - driving home is much worse without the excitement of Disney ahead of you.

We have all our Magic Bands and have been packing up our pins and such. Really looking forward to this trip. We are bringing along our 8 year old nephew who has never been to Disney. Our son is 15 and he has been to Disney or on the Disney cruise each year since he was 15 months old - it will be great to see the Parks though my nephew's eyes.

Anyone else bringing someone who has never been to Disney World before?

For those who are there now, how has the weather been? We leave in 4 days and I've been so excited but the weather report right now is stating up to 80% chance of rain for 4 of the days we are there and 40-50% chance the rest of the time. I'm kind of getting disappointed. I have never travelled in June before so I don't know how accurate this report is and if it just means a shower here or there or full on thunderstorms. Any thoughts?

Yes, we are bringing ourselves! DH and I are DLR vets going to WDW for the first time. 6 days to go!

Like I said, never been before but I've been watching the weather and what people say about it. Where we live rain in summer is extremely unusual. However, I've heard that it is very common there and usually rains about once a day for a little while. I remember watching the weather reports from last year and there were times people were almost swimming at the parks so I hope it doesn't rain more than a little each day. Most of all, I just hope there are no tropical storms or hurricanes.

What I have never understood is that Pluto and Goofy are both dogs, but Goofy can talk and poor Pluto can't.
