Need advice, we are staying at the Wilderness Lodge 7/17-7/26 but want to rent a car to go to the ocean for 1 day, get some groceries at a local store, and drive to Universal and see the sights. Only want to get a car for 4 days and I am AAA premier which automatically gets me a free gold hertz membership. Is it cheaper to get daily or weekly rates? Also I want them to drop the car off to the hotel, or is there an area in Disney I can get shuttled to?

Alamo and National have several locations on Disney property because Alamo is the "official" rental car company of Walt Disney World, and National is owned by the same company.

If you are staying at a Disney resort, the easiest option is to rent a car from the Walt Disney World Car Care Center, which is operated by Alamo (location ORLR72) and National (location ORLR02). The Car Care Center offers a shuttle that will pick you up from any Disney hotel and take you to the Center to pick up your car. The shuttle will also drop you off at your Disney hotel after you return your car. If you wish, call the Car Care Center up to 24 hours in advance and arrange for them to send a shuttle for you. Alternatively, go to the front desk of your Disney resort about 30 minutes before your pickup time and ask them to call the Car Care Center shuttle. The phone number of the Car Care Center is (407) 824-3470.

Another location for Alamo and National is Walt Disney World Dolphin Hotel (Alamo location ORLR74; National location ORLR13), located on Disney property. From any of the theme parks or Downtown Disney, take a Disney bus to the Dolphin. The Alamo/National office at the Dolphin keeps short hours, but you can drop off your car to the hotel's valets after hours. The phone number of Dolphin's Alamo/National desk is (407) 934-4930.

Yet another location for National is Buena Vista Palace (location ORLR03), near Downtown Disney. Take a Disney bus from any of the Disney resorts to Downtown Disney. Get off at the Marketplace stop, then walk across the street to Buena Vista Palace. The phone number of Buena Vista Palace's National desk is (407) 827-6363.

Avis has a location at Hilton in the Walt Disney World Resort near Downtown Disney. Some people have reported that this location was willing to send transportation to pick them up from a local hotel. If not, you can take a Disney bus from any of the Disney resorts to Downtown Disney. Get off at the Marketplace stop, then walk across the street to the Hilton. The phone number of the Hilton's Avis desk is (407) 827-2847.

my priceline bid was for $18/day for 8 day starting on july21. Total $144 with taxes and fees $222 at hertz for a full size car. If I had to do it again, I would bid $17/day or $16.75.

I am renting for a month, most of that is at the beach, with a few Disney days, mid July - mid August. I can't do Priceline because they only accept 28 day rentals, mine is 30. The best rate I've found so far is Alamo, Insiders code (it's added automatically) with the free upgrade coupon (right on their website, it's good through the end of the year) midsize for a total of $666. Insiders get a free additional driver. I even played around with renting week to week and can't beat the monthly rate. I still hope to pay less, but it works out to $166.50 a week for now.

Yes, total including tax, $666.05 for a midsize through Alamo, which includes a free extra driver. This was simply my Alamo Insiders code, which is automatic, plus the free upgrade Alamo offered on their website. I have not seen any other company offering a better rate for my trip. I booked it on May 26. Yesterday I got an email from Alamo with a free double upgrade coupon code, but I couldn't get the same rate I booked earlier. The rate is $723 now. I'm happy I got the low rate I did, but I'll still keep an eye out.

I just want to report that Priceline accepted my $12/day for a midsize from June 29 - July 9. I then upgraded to $13/day for a full size. I kept trying for two weeks at $12/day and it finally got accepted today. I'm wondering if I should have started at $10/day?

Try going to www.carrentalsavers.com they have alot of coupons, and sign up with the rental companies rewards programs for emails etc. best of luck
