OFFICIAL JULY 2009 THREAD!!! (Part 2) It's here!!

I just caught up with the last 10 pages of the thread and wanted to share some 7/4 thoughts with those of you who will be there for that in 2010 or on a honeymoon in 2011 :goodvibes. In '99 the 4th in MK was extremely crowded, so we were prepared for the same situation in '09. It turned out very different, though... I kind of spent the whole day waiting for the crowds to show up. It seemed like the CMs felt the same way. Splash had very long queues and getting a good spot for the fireworks required some... well creativity, but unlike ten years before people were not camping out for the fireworks at 3pm.
Now here's my little well-known secret: we flew in on the 3rd, checked in and went to the Poly beach to see the fireworks rehearsal (is that what it is?). The fireworks on the 3rd and 4th were identical and we enjoyed the view from beach so much more than from within MK! They bring out some floats of the water pageant, you can see ALL of the fireworks in their "grandeur" and they all reflect on the water! It was an amazing view. So to all you 4th of July-ers, I can highly recommend this!

Great suggestion! But I'm way ahead of you! Tinkerbell60 and I are sharing a fireworks cruise on the 3rd! I have high hopes for it!

BTW, Wendy, we still have some more spots to fill. Do you have anyone in mind? I feel like I'm starting to get to know more people on our thread. Do you think I should just ask in general? Or pm someone? I don't want to wait too long and have the spots vacant.

Nikki - I agree in not waiting too long. I also feel like I am getting to know more people. I am open to anyone. If you have someone specific in mind - pm them, otherwise, a general post would work. I am leaving this up to you since you invited me!

We are so looking forward to this!

That sounds amazing! I could post some caps of my video if you'd like. Or do you prefer to keep it a surprise?

We saw the shuttle launch last July - from the CR patio out by the boat dock - it was so cool! Glad we got to see one, it was supposed to launch on Saturday and we did not arrive till Wednesday - the day it finally launched. We were lucky because later that evening there was a terrific storm.

We are going back early July - since our APs expire on July 15th. Not too many of us July 09ers going back this year - but there are a few!

Hi! Would you mind sharing some pictures of the launch if you have them? It would be very nice to add another perspective of the same launch to my scrapbook :cool2:.
We ended up driving to KSC five times that week (we had causeway tickets): three scrubs, one launch and a Buzz Aldrin book signing for the 40th anniversary of the first Apollo mission to the moon. It got VERY frustrating, but they did make up for it! We were bumped from the causeway which is 6 miles out to the nearest VIP area to the launch pad, only 3 miles out! We were told that the only people who are closer are the ones pushing the buttons and some emergency personnel. Here's a video from that location: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DFqcCZiR48E&playnext_from=TL&videos=ErrGDHWslXM It's not the best quality, but I'm in it .
We didn't go to Universal, Clearwater or see much of SeaWorld because of the launch, but it was so worth it!

Wow! I can't believe this thread is still (somewhat) going! :cool1:
After the space shuttle and all its scrubs sucked up about all our non-Disney time in Orlando last July, I became addicted and will now be coming back for one of the remaining launches in May, July or September! Once an aerospace girl, always an aerospace girl... It'll probably be May or September, though, as flights in July are twice as expensive . What are all your plans??

Janet and I are not going to make it to WDW this year (went in July and December last year) however, we are going to DL in May and are meeting up one day of three with Tom (Imtooexcitedtosleep) and we also have a back to back book on the magic in October/November 2010. I think that will need to hold me over for awhile. Good luck to all that will return this year. Lois

Oooh, I don't know! I really do want to see it but I think I'd rather be surprised. Someone posted the Illuminations add-on they do for the 4th and I was sooo tempted to watch it but I didn't. I think it will make it that much better if I see if for the first time live and in person. :thumbsup2

I will be happy to post a few pics - but bear with me - I am technically challenged, so it may take a day or two.

Lois - that is so neat that you are going to meet Tom! I am looking forward to a trip report from Disneyland too!! I have not been there in years.

Hi everyone!!
I love it when a 'reply to thread' pops up in my inbox for this one... brings back so many happy memories of planning last year... must have started about this time last year as my ADR day was April 10th! (yes.. i can still remember the date, disney geek!! :surfweb: )

I am in pre-planning stages of Dec 2010 trip & Disneymoon in June/July 2011!

Loving all the Disney Dream info that is coming out at the mo... Animators Pallette/Turtle Talk AND today the Remy restaurant... :woohoo: 21st June '11 can't come quickly enough!! :rotfl:

Hope everyone had a great Easter!

Emma princess: xx

I agree Emma - that was a very unique and fun group we had and have!

You have two very exciting trips to be planning though!!

I miss you guys!!!!!! Although, some of you are on facebook, if you are and haven't linked up, do it! Tom created a page for us to find each other and make friend requests!

I was a little let down on Easter morning this year, last year I was on the phone while Brad and Anna Kat were at sunrise service, making all those DxDP ADR's.. I made mine online a while back, changed them 3 times since then! We're going down June 20-26. I am very excited, but it's kinda taken a back burner, lots going on here. Working on papers for Master's Classes, getting ready to have some oral surgery, family stuff.... UGH.

Glad everyone is popping in to say hello!!

That sounds very exciting! It's a good thing Disney has all these different locations around the world, it allows us to mix things up every year. Oh and be sure to report back on Tom's crocs!

!

Yeah, that's usually what I try to do as well... nevertheless, I knew what every single meal we had in July looked like before ordering :rolleyes1.

I will be happy to post a few pics - but bear with me - I am technically challenged, so it may take a day or two.

Thanks and no rush! If it's more convenient for you, email would also work :).

Congratulations on the engagement! You have such exciting times ahead of you... can't say I'm not a little jealous. But hey, someday my prince will come, too! ;) Enjoy all the planning!

Ok - this is embarrassing - I just looked at the pictures........they came out like blue sky - that is it.....cannot even see the shuttle......not sure what happened. I guess I was clicking the camera and trying to watch at the same time and I must have missed the shuttle in the pictures. I swear I had some that you could see the shuttle, but they are not with the July 09 pics on my computer. I will check my cell phone, and my kids cell phones.

It was cloudy that day, and you only saw the fireball for a few seconds. I can picture it in my mind, which is a good thing since I don't seem to have a real picture.

Southern California in May????? Of course, I'll be wearing crocs. :rotfl:

I knew your sense of style wouldn't let us down! :lmao:

Don't worry about it! Even at KSC it wasn't always easy to get the shuttle in your shot. Once you lose it when you're at full zoom, it'll be a few hundred miles further by the time you get it back ;).

Thanks - I knew that I was a bad photographer - and I was sure I had looked at those pics before. I guess I am just remembering what I thought I photographed!:lmao:

Looks like we'll be going back in late August. My DS18 has decided to attend Florida Tech. Its about an hour east of Disney, so DUH!! How could I possibly NOT stop after we drop him off!! I'll have to renew our AP's but they're running an offer that if you renew within 30 days of your expiration on either side (before or after) you'll get 15 months for the price of 12! Good deal. I wish we could go back before they expire, but there's too much going on at the end of June with graduation and DD7's ballet recital. Then we're into 4th of July, and I wouldn't go then. The crowds last week wore me down! I hear late August is great! This is from my friend whose home resort is BCV. They always go then. :yay:

I too missed the shuttle launch, but I have a 16x20 framed & matted photo of a past launch signed on the mat by my husband's former co-workers at Mission Control. Does that count?

Aww Mindy, that's such a shame you'll 'have' to visit WDW when you take your son to Florida Tech!! :rotfl:

Lol we had some funny moments trying to catch the shuttle launch.. the day it was supposed to take off (Sunday 12th?) we were in MK and were sat waiting in Tomorrowland to see it..

But it didn't happen!!

Then the day it actually launched, we were at Fantasia Gardens mini-golf.. and the sky was sooo cloudy, we didn't see a thing

I LOVED that photo of the latest shuttle over MK ... like a real shooting star over Cinderella castle! Think I saw it on the Disney Parks blog :wizard:

Ok - here is my shuttle picture taken from the CR, near the boat dock - can you see it???:rotfl:

I forgot how to post pictures - but I think the link is here. Later that night we had a great seat in MK for Spectro - but a storm moved in, it was terribly windy and there was a LOT of lightening. We sat for a long time until they finally said Spectro was cancelled. The next day, my sister called to make sure we were ok - because a tornado had moved through near Orlando - oops!

Can't see it. All you need to do is click on the mountain scene and insert the photo address there. Know what I mean? When you post, do you see where you can bold, italics, underline....move to the left to find the mountain scene.
