OFFICIAL Jan 2011 Half Marathon, Full Marathon, Dopey or Goofy Challenge Thread

Last post before I leave in the morning. Can't wait to meet you all and put faces with names. Hope to see you all on Friday. :thumbsup2

Just popping in to wish everyone a fantastic weekend of races. I've got a 5 miler in NYC this weekend that looks to be both icy and snowy!

OK -- we've been reading this thread for about a week now...

Just want to know:

Can we leave AKL @ 4am on the Half-Marathon morning and still be able to get into the parking lot???

I'll be a little clearer....

Sure, if you want to wait until the last minute why not. With weather looking cooler than normal traffic will be heavier and the lines to get into the Epcot Parking will be longer. you will have little to no time buffer leaving the AK at 4. Like I said last time, why not leave 20 minutes earlier and assure yourself that you will be in the parking lot on time, have time to potty and walk comfortably down to the start.

The bottom line is how much risk are you willing to accept for waiting until the last minute. All it takes is a flat tire or a wrong turn and you will watch us from the windshield. The race doesn't wait for late folks.

Good luck everyone! I will miss you all. I'll especially miss the elation on Sunday as you enter EPCOT.

We were walking from HS to the Boardwalk Monday night and they had the sign out for mile 24 water stop. I started to tear up :)

As a consolation I am running the River Roots and Run half marathon on Sunday. Always wanted to do it but always had Disney the same weekend. I've never run a trail half so this should be fun.

Good luck to all.

have a great run.

Anyone out there walking? This is my first marathon. Doing the full on Sunday. I am starting to really freak out. The longest I have walked is 21 miles. Barely made it but I did it. Now I am in the tapering stage. I can keep a 15 min. pace for the first part but really start to slow down at the end. Hoping the flatness and excitement from Disney will help me pump it up a bit and carry me through.

I emailed and found out I'm in the last corral and last wave so there is no time to lose to stay ahead of the sweepers. Staying at All Star Sports resort. This thread and board have motivated me along the way since all my training was alone. I don't mind racing alone but would love to meet someone to help encourage and help keep a good pace.

Good luck to everyone. Thanks too for all the helpful info you have been posting.

Good luck to you too. My best suggestion is to get to your corral early enough so you can get as close to the front of the corral as possible - that will give you an added buffer since the sweeping timer doesn't start until the last person in the last corral crosses the start line. The further from the back of that last corral the better. Think positive and the addrenaline from excitement of the day will push you through those last 6 miles - just keep your focus on that Mickey medal at the end. It worked for me in my first marathon. :thumbsup2

Do you mind telling us your bib #? (or at least your approximate one.) I'm 15191 and I'm wondering if I'm in the last corral or up a corral. I can't remember what time I put when I registered, but I never sent in any proof of time because they wanted something to show a 5 hour finish and I'm thinking I'll have something more like a 6 hour.

Good luck! You've put the training in. You can do it!

Hi everyone! I love Disboards and this thread! I am new and so maybe this was addressed somewhere else.....

I'm staying at Bonnet Creek Resort. I'm running the half on Saturday. My husband will be driving me to the race, and at 5:30 he will have access to the Race Retreat. I guess he will just hang out until then.

My question is this: what time should I leave Bonnet Creek to safely make it in time and not be stressed for time?

Good luck everyone!!! Thanks so much!

Melinda

I would pull out around 3:30 at the latest. You do not want to take the direct route to Epcot. Rather, as you leave BC, turn left onto Buena Vista and head towards CBR, BW and DHS. As you pass the Hess Station, Epcot Resorts Blvd (and DHS Entrance) and then Epcot Resorts Blvd again (it loops) be in the right lane. You want to exit on World Dr North towards MK. Stay in the right lane as you head down onto World and then follow the signs to Epcot. This normmal 10 mintue drive will take maybe 20-30 minutes and traffic will start to back up a bit (or at least be heavier) as you start to get onto World Dr.

Have fun

Thank you so much!! I mean it! Good luck and have a blast!

TnTsParty...Thanks for the encouragement and advice. I'll try and get there as early as I can.

dismagiclover...my number is 17???. Don't remember the last three digits off the top of my head. Hope this helps.

I haven't been around here for w while now (hip replacement surgery) but I want to say that I hope all of you have a great race weekend. I'll be cheering you on from the "at home" cheering section. :cheer2: Whatever you're doing, running, walking, or anything in between, I hope you have a great race!

DH and I are checked in for the half. We'll be in Corral D. Does this mean we'll be wave 4 to start? Thanks!

I would guess around corral 6 or 7....

You'll find out for sure at the expo and get a better estimate. I would plan on traffic delays anyway so getting out 30 minutes too early is 100% better than 5 minutes late.
Just found out my bib # 6129 is Corral C for the full and my wife's bib #40854 for the 1/2is corral F. One of my best friends drove to the expo tonight to get his and my family's. Thanks again for all your advice. I'll end up moving back to D to be with him as he ran with me in my 1st 1/2 stride for stride.

first things first, hope everyone has a safe and fun run this weekend.

Next, the expo, how do they sell out of items on day 1 before 6pm?????
My size was gone in several shirts and light weight jackets.

One manager suggested to me that they did not expect people to be spending as much this year?????

Packet pick-up was easy, directions were clear and the volunteers were great.

The expo, its a 2 day event if you really want to stop and see every vendor.

Met excellent people today on flight, on magical express, at resort, at expo and finally at raglan road restaurant.

See you all on the course.
