OFFICIAL Jan 2011 Half Marathon, Full Marathon, Dopey or Goofy Challenge Thread

Our family does our big even on Christmas Eve which is a rest day for me. I only have 4 to do on Christmas which will probably be in the evening since we get together at my mom's in the morning.

I've got 22 scheduled for Christmas, but thankfully our training group has moved our long runs that weekend to Sunday. Not that I'm doing much that day since my family is scattered around the world, but it'll be nice to sleep in on a Saturday for a change. :)

trying to figure out how I can keep training and make to marathon weekend. fell/slipped down the steps doing laundry last thursday. hurt my foot but it feels much better. however ended up in the er and found out i have a hair line fracture on my tail bone. as of right now i can't bend over to pick anything up and i can't sit straight up. docs say i can start running again in a day or two. any tricks to help heal fast so i can get back on track?

Rest. Lots of rest. That's the best way to heal and recover from almost every injury. Take several days off from running, be very careful about engaging in any other activities that might aggravate the fracture, and most important of all, don't rush back into your training. It's better to go slowly than to push too hard too fast and end up with an injury worse than it is now.

In case anyone is interested, you can now sign up for the Clif pace teams for the half and the full. Not sure if registering gets you anything, but here's the link just in case.

Question...

I will be going to the expo to get my own stuff for the half, but my sister will be picking up my stuff for the 5K since I don't get in until 10:30pm on the 6th.

I have the authorization form printed out already, and I know I need to give her a copy of my driver's license. It also asks for my bib number and a copy of the waiver. Are those two things that will be emailed to me before the event? And how early are they usually sent out?

Thanks!

Your bib number will be on your waiver which you can get online ahead of time. I can't remember exactly how far ahead of time but at least 2 weeks.

My long run day is every Weds, since that's the only day I'm consistently off. Saturdays are a rest day, so that works well with the holidays this year. The only day that might be a little tough for me is Christmas Eve, but it's only 4 or 5 miles, so I should hopefully be able to get it in before the rushing around starts that day.

I prefer to do my long runs (lately my only run of the week) on Sunday's so I guess I am good to go for the holiday's this year. My only problem is that the last week of the year I will be at my mom's in NC but those runs are only a 12 miler and an 8 miler. Then YIKES its back home for 4 days and turn around and go to Disney - gonna be a busy 2 weeks.

I hear that! I'll be at Disney the 24th-27th, then back to NYC for New Year's and getting started back at school, then BACK to Disney on the 6th. Good times!!

I'm in Florida Christmas Day to New Years Day. Come home and then head to WDW on the 6th.

Glad I'm not the only one with messed up scheduling.

Yeah. If we had that week off as well, I'd just stay down there. But nope...we start back the Monday after New Year's. Blech!

I might need a little help from someone on the boards here.

Being the lazy fool that I can be, I haven't bought my flight out to MCO. The best prices are the ones that arrive at midnight. Would anyone be able to pick up my kit for me? I'll have the waiver form filled out and everything so it can happen. Keep in mind, I'd like to pick it up upon arriving and arranging for transportation from the airport to wherever I'm staying.

As mentioned, I'm running the 5K on Friday and the half on Saturday. If the kit doesn't have the 5k material then I guess this favour won't be necessary.

Less than 6 weeks to go! How's everyone doing with their training? Is everyone staying pretty injury free? Other than my really long runs, all of my running is still feeling really good. I'm getting really excited. I keep thinking about starting to pack, and then I stop myself. I have no idea what the weather is going to hold, so I need to put it off! I've done as much research as I can do, so now I just need to keep running and get through Christmas and New Years in one piece. :)

Oh, and I forgot to add: Bacon, I wish I could help you, but I plan on being asleep when you get in. Sorry. Where are you staying? Someone who is staying in your resort might be more inclined to help out.

Someone PM'd me that is more than willing to help. I can't reply until after this post as it will be my 10th!

Training: I've reluctantly went from outdoors to treadmill. That's what happens when 25 cm of snow dumps on your city in the past five days.

Oh, I'm so glad someone's going to do it for you! :thumbsup2

Yes, running in the snow isn't fun. I had to do it last winter because the treadmill was broken. I also had to run on ice. Not fun, but at least I got a good core workout trying not to fall. I've run on the treadmill a few times in the last couple of weeks and I just don't like it. But, it's wonderful to have sometimes. :)

I'm thinking we'll be on the treadmill or the indoor track at the Y from here on out. I HATE running in the cold (below 40 F for me) especially if its cloudy and windy!

Running on the TM vs. running outside is a different experience for sure. Make sure you're all getting some outdoor mileage. There are lots of things that are different outside - wind resistant, pavement that doesn't move... you'll also want to get use to running on asphalt some other hard surface - the impact will feel different on your legs than running on the TM. And my thoughts on the cold weather are that you might as well get use to it. Last year, the weather at marathon weekend was frigid and rainy (for the half anyway)! But I hear ya! Not too fond of the idea of cold weather running either... running tights are not cute.

First time on thread....Dh and I are both running the half in Jan.

We are pretty experienced runners but this is our first half and I have a question. What do use to carry stuff on the race? Gu packs, room key, etc.

Any other first timer advice? We are staying at BC.

TIA
